Community Round-Up: Random Round-Up
Drotara from Less QQ, More Pew Pew is running a contest! Check it out.
Of more immediate value, perhaps, is Drotara’s take on the DPS winners and losers (in terms of hunter specs) in the Wrath beta. And For the Horde posted his top 6 picks for Wrath hunter pets.
(There’s actually been a lot of discussion on the best and worst pets in Wrath. But I think I may have to devote an entire post to that topic.)
BRK posted a really handy Mend Pet macro (courtesy of Shillara on Hellscream). One of the things I hate about Mend Pet is that I never know when the effect has run its course on my pet, so I invariably end up casting it while it’s still going when I’m worried about keeping my pet alive. But a simple macro will take care of this:
#showtooltip
/castsequence reset=15 Mend Pet, null
Brilliant!
Speaking of macros, steady shot posted a round-up of 13 useful hunter macros (as well as some gorgeous screenshots from the beta).
And just to complete the circle of blogging, Big Bear Butt Blogger posted a great shot of his hunter in full Haliscan outfit with Ghost Saber and Coyote Spirit.
I mentioned yesterday that I was honored to be interviewed on the Twisted Nether Blogcast. What I didn’t realize is that Breanna from Twisting Nether (and also Gun Lovin’ Dwarf Chick) was just interviewed herself on the Epic Dolls podcast.
And speaking of listening pleasure … I rarely do this, but if you are a fan of TMBG, JoCo, or Ookla the Mok, you should check out MC Frontalot. It’s … hardcore nerd rap. Yeah. [Humming: You. Are likely. To be eaten by a grue.]

Here’s another macro for you, Mania, for use with the /focus command on your trap target:
/cast [target=focus,exists,nodead] Distracting Shot
This allows you to set your trap target as your focus target, and then fire distracting shots at it while still auto-shotting and whatnot the main kill target. You can even keep shooting the target once its trapped to keep it off your healers between chain-traps, with no possibility of breaking your trap.
The second and third qualifiers in there (exists, nodead) just keep the macro from doing anything if your focus target is dead, or you don’t have one
It’s … hardcore nerd rap. Yeah.
The term is ‘nerdcore’. :D
Big fan myself. I highly suggest MC Hawking and Y T Cracka.
er, /offtopic
Love the link to the macros. The only reason I’m hesitant to use them is that when the next patch comes out, a lot of macros will end up being borked. Or at least heavily changed in their use. So I wouldn’t want to get too used to them!
hahaha ‘eaten by a grue’ indeed.
nethack FTW
I just tried that mend pet macro. problem is if you try spamming it, it never resets, so it only works if you are willing to look down and see if the button has switched back again.
I almost never look at my buttons except to hit some rare spell i don’t have keybound, so this macro doesn’t work as well for me.
i have a cooldown timer addon that counts down the seconds left over the buff/debuff icon and hotbar button this also shows how long mend pet has left which i find handy
Yes, do an entire post about “the best” Hunters’ pets’! :-P I look forward to that!
This is Tinuviel from Steady Shot – thanks for the link again Mania :>) In response to the person who said a lot of macros will get borked in new patches; I am in the beta and using most of the macros in the 13 macros post: http://wowwhimsy.wordpress.com/2008/08/27/13-hunter-macros, I haven’t had any problems with them so far. The only ones I am not using are the shot rotation macros, which aren’t needed with the changes to auto shot. I’ll test them out some more and post any difficulties on my site, but so far so good. Usually, I find patches tend to upset addons more than they do macros, unless your macros are super complicated, which mine aren’t.
I downloaded his Nerdcore Rising album before finishing the first sample. Truly awesome, lol. Thank you.
A good macro for Draenei hunters is the following:
#showtooltip Gift of the Naaru
#show Gift of the Naaru
/cast [help, nomodifier, button:1] Gift of the Naaru; [target=pet, nomodifier, button:1] Gift of the Naaru; [target=player, nomodifier, button:2] Gift of the Naaru
This basically casts your racial heal on a friendly target if left clicked, or casts it on your pet if no friendly target is selected when left clicked, or casts it on yourself when right clicked.
I’ve never regretted being a spacegoat hunter, this racial spell gets more use from me than any other racial I’ve tried on other races.
Thanks, Infares! That does indeed look like it will be useful for my little Draenei hunter (who also gets a lot of use out of Gift of the Naaru).
NP Mania. ^^;
Since Gift basically scales just like Mend Pet, combined with the Tenacity talent that buffs heals on your pet by 40%, I can see Draenei BM hunters being pretty good ghetto offtanks for 5 mans and possibly more depending on the new content and how resourceful players are.
ZOMG! CONFIRMED
New pet family: Core Hound (Exotic – Ferocity – Lava Breath) omg!
On wowhead this morning!
