Petopia: Now With Wasps and Rhinos

I still haven’t gotten the new focus numbers for talents in beta build 8820 up, but at least I have wasps and rhinos posted! The WotLK New Pet page is now autogenerated, as are all the Wrath family, skin and pet pages, which should make everything easier to update. Not everything is quite in place yet, but it’s getting there.

I also updated a whole bunch of previously untameable beasts that can now be tamed. My favorite (today): Bjomolf, the brown saber worg. (Thanks go out to a hunter named Bartarus from the WotLK EU for that good news!)

Thanks again Mania. The new pages look great.

  2. Selesti - August 22nd, 2008 @ 10:26 pm EDT

Nice. I was hoping to look at the new models.

I actually don’t like the wolf skin, but those orange eyes draw me in…

So, are wasps exotic? I know the rhinos are but what about wasps? Also, the last wasp, http://petopia.brashendeavors.net/wotlk/skins/skin_silithidwaspbossskin4.php, is unbelievably cute to me for some reason XDDD

  5. Mania - August 23rd, 2008 @ 12:42 am EDT

Wasps are not exotic. They can be tamed by any hunter.

  6. marzix - August 23rd, 2008 @ 12:43 am EDT

    awesome job

  7. Ann - August 23rd, 2008 @ 12:44 am EDT

That last model is actually the same as Princess Huhuran (http://www.wowwiki.com/Princess_Huhuran). It will be kinda neat to have that big ‘ol pain in the patoot boss follow you around, even though it’s just another mob with the same skin. :)

    Bjomolf? Tameable? Ohhhh yeah~~~~

  9. Ceron - August 23rd, 2008 @ 1:00 am EDT

I think Mania has the skin wrong for the Sapphire Hive Drones.
http://i33.tinypic.com/xgbo5l.jpg is what they should look like. Not the Princess Huhuran skin iirc.

Also, Mania, I think you missed adding the bats and spiders in Drak’Tharon keep as tamable. Check your email for the pics. Nice update nontheless!

  10. Mania - August 23rd, 2008 @ 1:30 am EDT

Heh! Technically I have the skin right, I just named the pictures backwards. I’ll get that fixed right now.

And you’re right — I have the Drak’Tharon beasts flagged and sitting in my inbox but I forgot to add them. Thanks for the reminder!

  11. Ceron - August 23rd, 2008 @ 1:59 am EDT

Yeah sorry about the wording. It’s been a long night. No problem on the reminder. :-P

  12. Mania - August 23rd, 2008 @ 2:03 am EDT

Oh, no, no — you’re right, the picture was wrong. I just thought it was funny, because as soon as I looked at it I said, “That’s not a Hive Drone!” Somehow I just managed not to look at it while testing locally. Ah, well.

is clefthoofs and kodos are rhinos?

  14. Ceron - August 23rd, 2008 @ 5:11 am EDT

Not yet. I have a hunch that they will get added to the same pet family once Rhino’s get their family skill. They currently don’t have one.

  15. Kristy - August 23rd, 2008 @ 6:24 am EDT

I’m not sure. And (about “they will get added to the same pet family”) I doubt that. rhinos aren’t so different from Clefthooves, but don’t think so, about Kodos. The way I see, possibly *IF*, that happens is if they get grouped together in like a “herd” pet family.

  16. Seveil - August 23rd, 2008 @ 6:46 am EDT

I’m hoping they make the Azerothian wasps tameable. Love this guy’s look: http://www.wowhead.com/?npc=5350

  17. Wain - August 23rd, 2008 @ 6:58 am EDT

Maybe I misunderstood, but it looks like you’ve removed the “untameable” from the grizzly bear cub. Surely they’re not going to allow that as a combat pet? Unless it has a special ability of making the enemy pause and go “aww” while you heal and shoot them ;)

  18. bradagore - August 23rd, 2008 @ 6:59 am EDT

About wasps, could someone help me out here. Am I going nuts or were there firefly-type wasps at Bashir’s Landing, level 70-71 or thereabouts - even after the big Ogri’la shake-up to that area - I surely remember fighting them recently - they had a lightning attack or something - but now they seem to be absent. Anyone else remember that?

  19. Nimizar - August 23rd, 2008 @ 7:04 am EDT

The grizzly bear cubs are currently tamable (someone posted a picture link in a comment to one of the other blog posts about this build).

However, given the scaling artefacts those pics showed when the relatively small cub model was brought up to full pet size, I have a feeling they probably won’t stay tamable.

  20. Seveil - August 23rd, 2008 @ 7:49 am EDT

bradagore- I remember those. Seems they were removed in 2.4: http://www.wowhead.com/?npc=22182#comments

Same skin as the ones in Zangar, anyway.

  21. bradagore - August 23rd, 2008 @ 9:21 am EDT

Yeah, but ready-levelled to 70 :C. Darn, that would have been useful.

  22. Forest - August 23rd, 2008 @ 12:29 pm EDT

So wasps get sting & what do rhinos get? are the Rhinos Exotic?

  23. Yossir - August 23rd, 2008 @ 1:55 pm EDT

So do the raptors still place holders or are they still going to update their looks?

  24. Archimond - August 23rd, 2008 @ 2:42 pm EDT

Btw BRk also uploaded 2 videos of a wasp and a rhino.See em here below.

I wonder if the rhino is actually a bit larger than the devilsaur…

  25. Takkouri - August 23rd, 2008 @ 3:10 pm EDT

The taming of those new Drakuru raptors in Zul’Drak is bugged in a bizarre way; not only can you tame them while they still have a mounted rider (which you kill after taming), the troll comes back to life and *mounts your new pet* while fighting it at the same time. XD

  26. Mania - August 23rd, 2008 @ 3:11 pm EDT

Yossir: One of the small problems I still need to fix with the auto-generation of the new pet pages is that the notes are getting eaten. This includes things like which pets are labeled as placeholders. So far, though, I think the placeholders they’ve touched have either stayed the same in the end or been entirely replaced — the way the gorillas replaced the bristleboars in Sholazar.

Forest: Rhinos don’t have a skill yet. Presumably they will get one soon. And yes, rhinos are exotic.

  27. Takkouri - August 23rd, 2008 @ 3:12 pm EDT

^ Ignore that comment above, just realized that it was already mentioned. :P

  28. batgrl - August 24th, 2008 @ 1:47 am EDT

Darnit, I just got a rhino, I’m enjoying the heck out of it - and my website server dies on me. Bah. Oh well, I’ll just have to upload em after the weekend! They are gonna have to shrink rhinos tho - they seem like trucks! Way chunky critters…

  29. Sarai - August 24th, 2008 @ 7:22 am EDT

I also just tamed a rhino, & I think he’s my new favorite pet hehe :)
Already had several people comment on him. I have taken to parking him outside of buildings on ’stay’ tho, he is really big.

  30. Zoblek - August 24th, 2008 @ 7:29 am EDT

Daggertail Lizard (http://www.wowhead.com/?npc=22255 ), red warp stalker, removed before Ogri’la, too! plz, check El Pollo Grande (http://www.wowhead.com/?npc=659 )

  31. Morlahan - August 25th, 2008 @ 5:25 am EDT

What do you suppose the likelyhood is that we’d be able to tame the beautiful sithilid wasps, such as ?
