Name That Pet: Roqshiana’s Wind Serpent

Roqshiana & Wind SerpentFinal Name(s): Asherah or Treasure/Trinket

Today we have a request from a Draenei named Roqshiana who is not only a hunter but also a pirate!

Roqshiana writes:

Usually I don’t have any trouble finding the perfect name for my pets, but I haven’t been able to find one that will stick with my new windserpent.

Roqshiana isn’t your average run-of-the-mill type hunter, she’s part pirate! She has a strong lust for adventure, and therefore needs a worthy companion with the same aspects. And of course, it has to be blue … anything that will remind her of the sea. She found her gorgeous sapphire windserpent down in the Barrens.

Whilst she was running around Ashenvale, she ran southward and soon her call for adventure took the better of her and she wound up in the enemy’s lands. Alas, Roqshiana found the new land too dry and dusty, but soon found refuge in a nearby oasis.

After she had her share of the pools water, she decided to go and sneak around the centaurs’ huts that were littered around the area and search for gold or any other worthy trinkets. However, a spine-tingling screech floated out from the nearby cave and caught her attention.

She ran inside, but all she saw was a bunch of lethal-clawed giant raptors leaping and running around a bunch of eggs. But there in the middle of all the chaos was the most beautiful creature Roqshiana had ever seen in her travels across Azeroth. It sapphire scales shone like rippled waves, and its eyes were as clear blue as the sea.

The raptors were becoming increasingly protective of their nest and so Roqshiana whipped out her dagger and leaped into the chaos to save the winged serpent. Though its will to survive was strong, she could see its energy waning. After it seemed like the raptors would never stop coming, the serpent let out a bright, powerful ball of lightning that lit up the whole cave. After the light died out, Roqshiana looked around and saw that the poor creature had collapsed out of exhaustion, but had rid them of the raptors.

She picked up the serpent and mended some of its wounds, then carried it back to Ashenvale where with the help of some of the Elves, it was nursed back to full health. The creature has never left her side since, and it has the same burning will of adventure (and love of shiny things). She couldn’t think of any other companion to better remind her of her beloved ocean.

So anyways, long story, but I just can’t find a name that will stick! I’m looking for any elegant, strong name, particularly if it has anything to do with the ocean, pirates, or even the color blue. I do love anything in Japanese as well. I haven’t decided whether the windserpent is male or female yet, so anything will do. Thanks, and have fun guys!

Oh, we always have fun with these! But let’s see what we can come up with for this wind serpent …

    well there is
Asherah = meens she who treads on the sea

Mokosh = name of the water goddess meens wet

ECHIDNA (Ekhidna) A monstrous she-dragon, half serpent and half fair Nymph. She was born of the scum of the sea or the sea-gods Phorcys and Ceto, and was associated with slime, sea-rot, fetid salt-marshes, eels and lampreys. By the storm-giant Typhoeus she became the mother of many a foul beast.

I’m thinking Roxette for some reason.

But for aboriginal(I just think of cave paintings aka. aboriginals when looking at a wind serpent) waterish, beautiful, bluish or seaish names:

    Amaroo ~ beautiful
    Apanie ~ water
    Calca ~ star
    Doongara ~ lightning
    Elanora ~ seashore
    Eleebana ~ beautiful girl
    Kaooroo ~ water lily
Killara ~ one who is always there
    Mayra ~ spring wind
    Tahnee ~ salt water

Only a few seaish names but yea I like the rest.
Tell us when you decide =)

Call it a name with ”Umi” (sea) in the name; Umi, Yuumi, Umirika, Umizu, idk

Seems that us Draenei hunters like that pet :D

  8. Niabi - August 18th, 2008 @ 1:12 pm UTC

For a boy I recommend: Caspian (after the Caspian Sea) &
For a girl I recommend: Aegea or Adria (after the Aegean and Adriatic Seas)

Of those already mentioned, I like the names Aquarius and Asherah

Maybe one of these Japanese words will do?

    Boukensha – Adventurer
    Houshu – Gem or Jewel
    Kaiyou – Ocean
Kaizoku – Pirate or Sea Robber
    Mizu – Water
    Oashisu – Oasis
    Safaia – Sapphire
Sazanami – Ripple or Ripples on Water
    Umi – Sea

That’s all I can think of for now. I hope this helps, and good luck naming your gorgeous wind serpent!

    Poseidon
    Treasure
    Saphire
    Loki
    Azure
    Gemhide
Maybe look into the meaning of the word Sea or ocean in other languages. I love the name Treasure for her because you didn’t know it but you where out treasure hunting and you found the most precious treasure a Hunter can find. (a Best friend and fellow adventurer.)Gold has nothing on her.

You did a great job on her story. For some reason the only name that is comeing to me is Stryke. I know it realy has nothing to do with the sea or water and is not asain but it did kinda save your butts with a lightning strike. Spell it Stryke to make it a little differant lol.

  14. Aerye - August 18th, 2008 @ 2:21 pm UTC

I love the story. :) As for the name, I know you were looking for a sea-oriented name, and enough have offered those, as well as Japanese-based names, but I wanted to offer a name that popped into my mind, thinking of what a pirate might hold dear: Trinket

May the pair of you be happy for a long long time :D

  15. Zifero - August 18th, 2008 @ 2:37 pm UTC

Ok, i love the story… and the name that popped into my head was mjolnir (not sure if i spelled that right) anyway…its from norse mythology and it is associated with thunder in that it is the hammer of thor, which slew the aquatic midguard serpent, thus making mjolnir a word carring some power.

  16. Bonelazy - August 18th, 2008 @ 2:39 pm UTC

    Simple, but I like it:

    Breeze

Due to the creature being a “Wind” Serpent, and has a blue color that reminds you of ocean…

  17. Harvok - August 18th, 2008 @ 3:43 pm UTC

aquamarine? soryy, not very good with pirate names =P. maybe u should try goin after the “bloodsail’s admiral’s hat”?

  18. cloudmonkey - August 18th, 2008 @ 3:57 pm UTC

Maybe a name to make you think of air and water at the same time?

    Zephyr
    Seabreeze

or just Breeze as Bonelazy suggests.

  19. Ansawa - August 18th, 2008 @ 4:47 pm UTC

    Spindrift. :D

Other weather/oceanic terms that occur are Frostflower, Hoarfrost, Windfrost, Rime, Cloudburst, Spray, Drift, Tide… I was looking for interesting “lightning” terms, but nothing came up. Ah well. :D

  20. Bobo & SgtPork - August 18th, 2008 @ 5:52 pm UTC

  23. Bullverine - August 18th, 2008 @ 6:10 pm UTC

If you want to try Spanish

Solymar = Sun(Sol) and Sea(Mar) is more of a girly name but I think is cool :)
