Worm with Elf

WotLK Beta: Forzen & WormDon’t think I didn’t noticed those complaints about how all the screenshots of exotic pets feature dwarf hunters (making it difficult to judge size) in the comments!

Luckily, a hunter named Forzen stepped forward to help out with a screenshot of himself next to his new friend Worm. Now male night elves aren’t as big as, say, Tauren or male Draenei, but this still gives you a much better size comparison than Kaet with her little white worm. (Click the small picture to see the large version.)

[Update] And there’s more!

WotLK Beta: Zhara & SilithidHuntress Zhara sent me this great screenshot of herself with one of the new silithid pets. She writes:

Here are a couple of pictures of my hunter Zhara and her silithid pet. I really like the special ability they get, however he is not holding aggro as well as I would like. He is only level 66 right now to my 70 though so hopefully it will get better. I named him twitch which seems very appropriate for his behavior! I’m not the best at taking screenshots but hopefully this will give you an idea of the pet size.

That screenshot looks fine to me! And that does give a better suggestion of size than Kaet does, I admit.

World of WarCraft.de: Uma & SilithidAnd courtesy of nobbie from WorldofWar.de we have another shot of a silithid with … another female draenei! Those space goats sure are popular.

This is the rare Silithid Ravager from Thousand Needles, and as nobbie tells us in the comments, the pet is level 68 and the hunter is 73 in this picture.

And finally (for now — I’ve got a plan in place for a neat gallery coming soon), one last picture. This is the huntress Tiiaa with, as she says, “her new favourite pet”, as posted in her raid forums.

  2. Ryno - August 11th, 2008 @ 2:47 pm UTC

Pretty sweet. Although, personally, I’d like to see how silithids scale.

  3. Selesti - August 11th, 2008 @ 2:48 pm UTC

    Dang that’s a huge worm!

  4. mirozik - August 11th, 2008 @ 2:53 pm UTC

  6. Zoblek - August 11th, 2008 @ 3:32 pm UTC

  8. nobbie - August 11th, 2008 @ 3:47 pm UTC

    @Ryno:

A silithid after the taming next to a draenei female (pet = 68, huntress = 73):

Exotic Pet: Silithid Ravager (rare, Thousand Needles)

  9. Kristy - August 11th, 2008 @ 4:03 pm UTC

Now get a screenshot of a DEVILSAUR near a normal-sized player (preferable on the good side; Alliance)! :-D lol

  10. Fawl - August 11th, 2008 @ 4:07 pm UTC

Wow the silithid from nobbie looks a lot better than i expected. Have to say still not a fan of the worms. Devilsaurs are pretty awesome but i have to say im still guessing that they will bring out a few new species, they have to really.

  11. Daedroth - August 11th, 2008 @ 4:21 pm UTC

I hope the size stays as is, It will be nice to finally have an impressive beast at our command, as opposed to say, a Kitten, a Gecko or a bug currently :P

  12. Ihlos - August 11th, 2008 @ 4:31 pm UTC

    Midgar Zolom

  13. nightranger - August 11th, 2008 @ 4:39 pm UTC

SO this is great and all but what about regular pets anything new going on with them (need new HYENAS!!!!) i mean not every hunter is going to be BM spec and has any1 tried taming Phase-Hunter from Arcatraz yet (Someone PLEASE help me out there i LOVE that skin color on warpstalkers). SO as cool as these exotic pets are people in beta please keep updating us with reg pets too.

    THANK YOU in ADVANCE!!!!

  14. Mania - August 11th, 2008 @ 4:43 pm UTC

There is nothing wrong with geckos. NOTHING!

    *cough* Sorry.

I updated the post with a screenshot of a silithid that huntress Zhara sent me, as well as a thumb of the pic nobbie posted. (Let me know if you’d prefer I just use the link, nobbie!)

You know, I think I may have to set up a gallery of some sort for this stuff.

  15. Palladiamors - August 11th, 2008 @ 5:48 pm UTC

Ihlos, thats just….perfect…. now I’m going to be hard pressed to not tame a worm and call it that….

  16. Concrete - August 11th, 2008 @ 6:03 pm UTC

When you tame the blue and white Mauradon worm, it changes to a grey one when summoned.

  17. Fearmdemon - August 11th, 2008 @ 6:05 pm UTC

z.O.M.G. Silithids. i love them. hopefully they tank/dps. i dunno the trees well. i used to hate silithids, because of the quick respawns, ugly hives, and untame-ability. but FINALLY we get something good, other than Devilsaurs (which kinda to me look like mutant raptors, sorry!)

  18. Concrete - August 11th, 2008 @ 6:07 pm UTC

the Deep Borer is confirmed as a colour changer. Took me about 5 summons to get it back to blue and white. It shares the grey skin of the Dredge Crusher. Now that i think of it, the mob in Mauradon that’s labled “Deep Borer” is both colours in the instance.
Kinda like the old LBRS colour changing wolves.

  19. thepalelady - August 11th, 2008 @ 6:31 pm UTC

    dude thats big !!!!!!!!!!

  20. mirozik - August 11th, 2008 @ 6:38 pm UTC

is that a murloc behind Uma?

  21. mirozik - August 11th, 2008 @ 6:44 pm UTC

hey guys, i noticed that the Silithid family which ppl already tamed are the same modle ones. have u guys ever try this guy? http://wotlk.wowhead.com/?npc=3253
he is also named Silithid something, and didnt categorized.
there are tons bugs named silithid with different type of models; is it only that model which Mania showed can be tamed?

  22. Dochalliday - August 11th, 2008 @ 6:55 pm UTC

So about the Worm’s special acid spit ability, is there any word of whether this will stack with Sunder/expose armor? Or even fearie fire for that matter. In a similar vein is there any word on the same thing for the Sporebat’s ability sporecloud?

  23. Epacsten - August 11th, 2008 @ 7:02 pm UTC

Methinks hunters will soon need a spell to shrink our pets for convenience in tight spaces.

  24. Jindar - August 11th, 2008 @ 7:29 pm UTC

Giant angry worms and bugs… man, Blizzard’s latest pet groups were apparently inspired by the inhabitants of the dumpster behind the cafeteria.

    Next pet class – Hobos!

  25. Never - August 11th, 2008 @ 8:26 pm UTC

you have to figure with the number of people with hunters, the % of hunters that are bm spec and the size of the exotic pets, towns in general and mailboxes/AH are going to be hell to see especially on horde side with the already large player models.

  26. nobbie - August 11th, 2008 @ 8:29 pm UTC

    @Mania:

The pic is fine, you may also want to host the larger original here on your site as it may get deleted some time from that temp directory :)

    @mirozik:

That baby murloc is the “Lurky” pet from the BC collector’s edition ;)

  27. Mania - August 11th, 2008 @ 9:40 pm UTC

Thanks, nobbie! I’ve made a local copy now — I just didn’t want to nab your content without asking.

I also added one more pic, Tiiaa the female orc with her worm. Thanks, everyone!

  28. Mania - August 11th, 2008 @ 9:45 pm UTC

Concrete: Thanks for confirming that the Deep Borer changes color! I’ll get that updated.

mizorik: So far it looks like only the ‘tank’ model of silithid can be tamed, but I admit that I haven’t checked out all the rare and hidden silithids yet. :>

Heh. Double post from me this time.

  29. Leibowitz - August 11th, 2008 @ 10:04 pm UTC

If I could just get a beta invite I’d send in screenshots of the new pets with my troll and any other form I could get out of the engineering trinket malfunctions. ;)

  30. Ryno - August 11th, 2008 @ 11:31 pm UTC

Thanks a lot guys, I can size up them now. Silithids scaled bigger than I thought, sweet. Hehe. Can’t wait!

  31. Syrelil-Sentinels - August 11th, 2008 @ 11:32 pm UTC

    I want my beta key.
    Nao.
Freaking sweet worm, I wtf’d at worms being tameable before hydras, but that first screenshot made me drool.

  32. Seidouyumi - August 11th, 2008 @ 11:47 pm UTC

The Northrend Worms are rather sweet looking in a scary way.

  33. daemon - August 11th, 2008 @ 11:57 pm UTC

Since there are worms available as exotic pets has anyone checked if the mana worms or the ones that have that skin are tamable now? just checking they might not be a good pet attack wise or might be casters but they sure would be cool to have

  34. Keilden - August 12th, 2008 @ 1:49 am UTC

I still want the maggots from EPL….*prays to the pet god*

  35. Shockymonkey of Durotan - August 12th, 2008 @ 2:31 am UTC

I don’t know about any of you guys but I think I’m staying beast master =)

  36. Suzi - August 12th, 2008 @ 2:37 am UTC

@ nightranger: Mania hasn’t forgotten about other pets. The WotLK section on Petopia has lots of pictures for new pet models, including Hyenas. It also has all the new pet family abilities and various notes of interest. She’s also posting in her blog about things that will affect all pet loving hunters, like new Beta patch notes and the latest news about Focus regeneration. It may seem that all you can see is about the new Exotics but they’re exciting, new and there isn’t a great deal of information about “regular” pets at the moment. Patience. :)

  37. Solarshot - August 12th, 2008 @ 12:48 pm UTC

lols for some reason these new worm skins remind me of the Guild wars worms

  38. Solarshot - August 12th, 2008 @ 12:50 pm UTC

ID be scared if i saw a hunter with the black silithid mount in arena and a silithid pet folloing it =(

  39. Concrete - August 12th, 2008 @ 3:03 pm UTC

    @ Solarshot

The Silithid in Bestal Wrath is a dam scary site.

  40. daemon - August 12th, 2008 @ 5:14 pm UTC

hi guys just me again i noticed there wasnt any comment on if the worms from the blood elf starting area or models like it are tamable and part of the new worm family i really would like to know

    thanks a bunch

  41. Brevis - August 12th, 2008 @ 10:53 pm UTC

    are these Wotlk pets?

  42. Keilden - August 13th, 2008 @ 4:39 am UTC

    aye

  43. BloodGod - August 13th, 2008 @ 12:26 pm UTC

daemon, the beasts you are talking about are not WORMS, they are MANA WYRMS, witch make them 2 different types so no, they cant be tamed….yet!

  44. DAEMON - August 13th, 2008 @ 6:54 pm UTC

ty bloodgod i didnt realize that difference, it would be a cool and exotic pet i think lol. have you checked this possibility on the beta yet i understand that it would be a different family entirely (now lol ;P). im not sure if every one is paying any mind to the really low lvl beasts that dont show up at all past lvl 20. i know of the other models in outland but they live under water so i know that would make them unable period. but thanks again for the info.
