WotLK New Pet Spotlight

I’ve been quietly adding data to the WotLK New Pet page on Petopia as folks send it in to me. Many of these changes are pretty minor – clarifications on levels or locations. But there have been a couple of really interesting additions in the past week or so that I wanted to share.

Petopia: WotLK New Hunter Pets - Moths
Of course you probably know about devilsaurs and our one chimera already, but how about this beauty: the only white moth currently in existence!

Aspatha the Broodmother was reported to me by a hunter named Lyth. Aspatha hangs out in Gammoth, in Borean Tundra, among the Bloodspore Moths.

Petopia: WotLK New Hunter Pets - Serpents
And Ceron (also known as Gatling of Critical Mass on Stormrage US) was very excited to let me know about Venomtip, a purple serpent in Sholazar Basin.

Venomtip is only the second serpent with this appearance. (The first is the Deviate Viper in Wailing Caverns.) You can find Venomtip near Rainspeare Rapids in Sholazar Basin.

Petopia: WotLK New Hunter Pets - Raptors
Slightly less exciting, perhaps, but still a welcome change: the ravasaurs of Un’Goro Crater can now be tamed! This includes Ravasaurs, Ravasaur Runners, Ravasaur Hunters, and Venomhide Ravasaurs.

Unfortunately I haven’t been able to find the rare Ravasaur Matriarch yet — that’s her to the right — to confirm if she can also be tamed. Let me know if you see her, beta hunters!

Petopia: WotLK New Hunter Pets - Birds of Prey
And speaking of matriarchs … Glassdragon sent me a note the other day about the Goretalon Matriarch, a lovely but mysterious snowy eagle from the northern rim of Sholazar Basin. Right now on the beta PvE realm she’s stuck in a permanent Evade mode so we can’t even cast Beast Lore on her to see if she can be tamed. But oh man! Isn’t she gorgeous!

That’s just a quick spotlight of some of the cool new pets I’ve heard about in the WotLK beta. Check the Petopia WotLK New Pet page for a complete list. And if I’m missing something — please let me know!

  1. I really want the white moth. I like the moth’s abilities and really do hope that at least the blue ones in Bloodmyst Isle are made tameable too :)

  2. wow the moth would be a great adition to the rareish pets i already have all i need is that moth and 2 exotics to complete my colection (really hope kodos are tameable)

  3. *whipes drool from chin* The goretalon Matrearch is sooooo mine *crosses her fingers and hopes she is tamable*

  4. that snow eagle looks pretty majestic. Wouldn’t mind having it in the stables along with me other pets for various pet fun in raids. Others are:

Green Raptor – Denver (from Denver the last Dinosaur. Cartoon in the early 90s)
Orange and Black ZG Cat – Hobbes (woo Calvin and Hobbes)
RFK Boar – Sparta (who else but someone from sparta can hold back teh mobs while I kick their ass?)

  5. hmmm, wonder if the lil mini-white moth sold in Exodar as a non-combat pet is the miniture of this white moth?

    so many new pets. ::sigh::

  6. btw, is eagle belongs to carrion bird family or owl family? or they gonna be a new family in WotLK like moth?

  7. @ Mania

I’m going to be on the minute servers are up searching for new pets. I’m sure Glassdragon and others will be looking for the next “Exotics”. :-)

  8. Shibumi-

Yes, Aspatha is the same as the vanity pet moth available in Exodar. Basically, they are both white with black spotched wings, black eyes, legs, horn and antenae.

On another topic, I would love to see a unique skin/model for ravens/crows. Raven and Vultures would then truely be Carrion Birds and Eagles and Owls would be Birds of Prey and everything would fit nicely.

  9. where exactly is she stuck? sometimes i get mobs that run through a tree to get to me,get stuck, then evade.but iv found that if your standing right on top of them sometimes they unevade even thought they remain stuck in the tree or rock.
if you can reach her and manage to get her to attack you,you might be able to cast beast lore.if shes up in the air it probubly wont work at all…

  10. The Goretalon Matriarch, when I saw her, was flying just a few feet above a little knoll. I could get right up to her but she wasn’t responding to any attacks.

  11. Now this isn’t official yet, but word is that two new exotic types are silithid and worms. I am going to dig around a bit more and see if this is true or not.

  12. Silithid, as an after thought, would have to be re-typed to be beasts from not having a set definition. Not to hard to do, though, and its an interesting idea.

  13. @Palladiamors

Actually there are Silithid like Wasps in Sholazar Basin that are labeled Beasts. I was going to send Mania the info, but got the data lost in my beta screenshot folder. >_>.

  14. Those wasps weren’t tameable yesterday, but you’re right — it hadn’t really occurred to me how odd it was that they were labeled beasts at all.

  15. ah.she must have been flying like gutripper and that tameable chimera then.i dont know of a way to get them to unevade if theyre doing that other then waiting for a server restart or contacting a gm.maybe flying mounts but that would be harder to pull off..

  16. Good news! After the new beta patch today, the Goretalon Matriarch is no longer evade bugged and Beast Lore says that she can be tamed! Unfortunately I’m still too low to try it, but at least we know it’s possible.

  17. I don’t know if anyone thought of it yet, but those pterodactyls in Un’goro could be “Birds of Prey” .. wish they could be tamable ala Exotic. :)

  18. I’m kinda tempted to Tame that awesome white moth. I’d have a Stable slot for it too. lol And I WAS gonna head to Menethil, to take the boat to the Borean Tunrda side! But now forget that! That fantastic, beautiful white Eagle is mine, once I reach where it’s at! Woot!

  19. White Gorilla, white cat, I never could decide whether to get white bear or owl. Now I’ve got a choice of white eagle. (the patriot in me says “go with the bald eagle) Atleast they’ve given us hunters 5 slots. . .

  20. Ive seen the ravasaur matriarchy, it is in the north eastern region of the wetlands there is a cave with a buch of raptors that is where the matriarchy is. It is around lvl 30 i think.
