Name That Pet: Ankihe’s Silithid Protector

Ankihe and Silithid ProtectorFinal Name: BloodTide

Ankihe, a troll hunter from Moonrunner, wrote to me the other day looking for help naming her pet newest pet, a crab-like Silithid Protector.

Ankihe, who is also my 2nd hunter, is an ambitious, adventure looking sort who searches for many creatures to take along with her, so long as they hold a common trait; -Red-. While she considers the color a natural indication of not only ferocity, with which to help protect her, she also sees it very much as compassion, which she shows for each of her own pets.

When she understood that an offensive companion such as her very first, the Bloodtalon Raptor “Bloodmaw”, would need a defensive sparring double, she came of searching for a particular crustacean from Desolace that she had heard about; “a gem off the dead, western costs”. But alas, when she ventured there, he was no where to be found…

Disgruntled, she managed her way through to the Southern Barrens, meandering across the oddly placed, and colored, silithid. As she had been told before, they didn’t hold any spirits, therefore she had no interest to hunt, let alone tame, them. That is, however, until she noticed an oddity among the bright, teal aberrations.

A strong looking, crab-esc Silthid had slumped itself in place, seemingly in discord at the loss of the eggs it had tried to defend from another adventurer. Ankihe edged closer to this Protector, struck in awe at how among the spiritless swarmers and creepers it held more compassion and life than anything else around. When she came to befriend it, it was surprisingly unhostile, and their kinship arose quickly. Content with only its companionship, she thought not of a suitable name for it.

*I don’t normally RP, but this guy was absolutely a must! And for names, I want to maintain a “Blood”-esc theme (like my Raptor above, or another pet I had named “Sanguius”). Mashed names are fine, but nothing really goofy; naming pets is seriuz bizness XD. So in short; anything not goofy and blood related I will consider ^_^

Oh, and if it matters to anyone’s suggestions; It’s a guy ;P

One of my first investigations into pets involved the Silithid Protector. Back then, they’d do a little custom emote whenever you whistled for them. It was eventually fixed, but these guys are still one of my favorites.

Okay — let’s get started naming!

Hmm…Bloodclaw? It would fit well with Bloodmaw. Also Bloodguard would bring out the defensive aspect of it, though admittedly that’s sounds a little BElven. Maybe Ochre, it was the name of a red pigment used in Australian Aboriginal ceremonies. It was often mixed with blood and smeared onto the bodies of the dancers. Another one could be Lifeblood as you said in your backstory quote “…it held more compassion and life than anything else around.”

Oo boy. Names for Troll pets! Just to let you know… I’m extremely biased to Nahuatl/Maori/Hindi names for them. So I’m gonna have to suggest some of those as well as some blood-esque names.

    • Agana (Chamoru - Feminine): “Blood”
    • Akeldama (Aramaic - Feminine): Biblical name of the plaza Judas Iscariot committed suicide. Name means “Field of Blood”.
    • Chimalli (Nahuatl - Masculine): “Shield”
    • Eztli (Nahuatl - Unisex): “Blood”
    • Gazini (Zulu - Masculine): “Blood”
    • Manauia (Nahuatl - Masculine): “Defend”
    • Milintica (Nahuatl - Masculine): “Fire; He is waving”
    • Muhjah (Arabic - Feminine): “Heart’s Blood; Soul”

    • Odol (Basque - Masculine): “Blood”
    • Serkan (Turkish - Masculine): “Blood”
    • Tlaloc/Tenoch (Nahuatl - Unisex): “Of the earth”
    • Tlalli (Nahuatl - Feminine): “Earth”
    • Xipil (Nahuatl - Masculine): “Noble of the fire”
    • Yolotli (Nahuatl - Masculine): “Heart”

I happen to stumble across this sentence in Wikipedia, as I tried to find names that might be suitable for your pet …

“Vertebrate blood is bright red when its hemoglobin is oxygenated. Some animals, such as crustaceans and mollusks, use hemocyanin to carry oxygen, instead of hemoglobin.”

So how about naming your crab Cyan or Cyanin?

  10. Curumor - August 6th, 2008 @ 11:49 pm EDT

    Crimson the Crustacean?

  11. Niabi - August 6th, 2008 @ 11:51 pm EDT

It just so happens that Cyan is the name for a shade of blue too … incidently, giving the name the meaning of “blue blood” which conveys characteristics of superiority, and authority.

I tamed one on my Dwarf as well and named her Ruby. You can always add the word ‘blood’ to it to make it Bloodruby.

Or perhaps something like Fireheart of Firebrand. Good luck naming her :-)

hm.. just a couple lil ideas.
–Platelet: they’re found in blood, also crabs have lots of ‘plate like’ armor
–RedTide: actually the name for ocean waves looking red from algae blooms, but something similiar looking would be when the millions of tiny newborn crabs go scrambling out to sea for the first time, making the water look all red.
–BloodTide: just throwing ‘blood’ in there.
