PetEmote 1.5 is Alive!

Somewhat belated news, to be sure, but that great pet add-on PetEmote has shipped version 1.5, including new extremely customizable emote functionality.

You can download PetEmote 1.5 directly from the developer’s blog or from Curse.com.

In addition, there is an excellent FAQ (including a link to a tutorial for the new customization) at Jorna’s blog as well.

Hehe, I use petemotes, downloaded after seeing a fellow huntar using it. Its a great little addon and it’ll have others /w you saking how you get your pet to do that. Just smile and wink at them, works a treat :P

magnakilro- download it and make sure its saved to the inferface->addons folder. then when you go to log on, look at your character select page, click “Add Ons” in the corner, look at the list and make sure its checked on. that’s about it. in her tutorial it says how to turn the random emotes on and off. just type in the / command.

just a quick question for anyone here who has edited custom emotes with the new version. to my knowledge, ive done the brackets, commas, ect correctly. my stuff doesnt show up though, just the pre-set ones do. yes, ive used the /reload ui. are the custom ones meant to be saved in the “custom emotes” file? do you have to delete the example one that was already there, to get it to work? its not a big deal, so i dont wanna bug the developer about it. ty

@Magnakilro: Read the fine manual, which is also found as a weblink inside the PetEmote folder. ;-)

@Noba: Your emotes are stored in the custom-emotes.lua as described in the tutorial. You do not have to delete the example configuration, but you can do. If your stuff isn’t shown, make sure you set the pet family or pet name in the first line of your configuration correctly. It is case sensitive, so “bear” doesn’t work, but “Bear” will. When defining a pet family, make sure to use the exact name of it. Paste the following line to your chat when your pet is with you, to let WoW tell you the pet family:
    /script DEFAULT_CHAT_FRAME:AddMessage(UnitCreatureFamily("pet"));

@Mania: Thanks again for promoting it. :-)

@anyone: Emote configurations by PetEmote users come up a little bit… sluggish. Well, I can say, nothing happend since the release of 1.5 (which is only 10 days, ok). Maybe it’s too hard to write this configuration stuff, I don’t know. But I’m sure somewhere out there are some freaks who will know how to manage it. So send me your configurations, no matter if they’re big or just a few lines. Until 1.51 or 1.52 it is important for me to fix the holes (i.e. warlock’s pets are not defined at the moment; I know they’re hungry…) and bring out defaults for nearly every pet family, which do a good job without forcing players to change anything.

I recommend downloading wowmatrix (www.wowmatrix.com) and using the portal to manage any and all add ons you may want. Not only does it offer you a massive variety of more add on’s than any one person would even want/need, but it also is a fast and efficient way to make sure that they are all up-to-date at any given point in time.
Just my two cents worth, good luck!

just tried out petemote, love it so far. Does anyone know if people do/(have in the past) created their “custom-emotes” files available for other users? So that us less savvy folk can leech off someone with say, a killer custom-emote set for a raptor? thanks in advance

    p.s. i tried to read the site, but i can’t read german (?) :D

  11. Jorna - August 6th, 2008 @ 6:00 pm EDT

This is what the English version is for. ;-)

Custom emotes of other players have not been published until now, as far as I know, since that functionality is really new to PetEmote. Give them some time… waaah, even I can’t wait for it. :D

  12. Brandon - August 6th, 2008 @ 10:47 pm EDT

yupp, found the english version, i was referring to the rest of the site (was looking for a link or something). Brand new to pet emote so don’t know what the old versions did. I’m really excited about it tho, and will give my best effort at trying my own.

It’d be amazing if in the future you could host the “custom-emote” files for various pets/situations for others to download. The flexibility and expandability would be amazing. Hoping for lots of good content in the future! Thank you so much!

giving the custom emotes another try. what i did was copy the emotes for localization into the custom file and add on to it, so i guess i essentially doubled the chances for the pre-set emotes to come up and thats why mine arent. gonna try putting only new ones in the custom file and see how that goes. should i number them starting at 1? for example, there are cat emotes in localization with their own set of numbers, will the numbers used in the custom file effect that in any way? ty :) if i can get this working, ill be happy to send in.

  14. Jorna - August 7th, 2008 @ 11:46 am EDT

Copying a configuration from the localization.lua to custom-emotes.lua without renaming the pet family will always override, not add the configuration. So it didn’t double the chances for the other emotes, but they had equal rights. Anyway, you can’t do anything better to get a wide range of different emotes.

Numbering always has to start with 1 within one configuration.

I love it. It works well with both Warlock and Hunter pets. My Warlock minions/pets are always “happily hungry”. Very (insert German philosopher name here (Kafka ?) -esque. :D

BTW, what does Crawling mean? “Pet stretches and feels good. How about some crawling?” (something like that). Does it mean tickle?

  16. Jorna - August 11th, 2008 @ 11:33 am EDT

Mh… bad translation, I see. Should be one of these words. What do you think is bbest?

  17. fatman - August 13th, 2008 @ 1:15 am EDT

According to Babelfish streicheln means “stroke” or “to stroke”.

“To palm” sometimes means “to steal” so it’s not a good translation.

“To pet” -> without PetEmote will look like this: Hunter’s pet CAT purrs contentedly. How about some petting? Although petting is a better term to use than stroking.

By the way, tickle means kitzeln in German according to Google’s translator. Babelfish doesn’t seem to have a translation for it.

Got to go, my lunch break is over. :O

  18. fatman - August 13th, 2008 @ 6:47 am EDT

One thing bad about the word petting is that it sometimes has “adult” meanings. That’s why I hesitate to recommend it.

Maybe “tummy rub” is better. Hmmmmm………

  19. Jorna - August 13th, 2008 @ 2:26 pm EDT

How is this: “How about a stroke?” - I know, “stroke” has many meanings and most of them are “something hard”.

  20. fatman - August 14th, 2008 @ 7:33 am EDT

“How about a stroke?” is ok. Stroke in that phrase doesn’t mean to strike or to hit.

Were you using the German word krabbelnd? It also means tickle -> tickling.

  21. Jorna - August 14th, 2008 @ 11:45 am EDT

The German kraulen was meant. But wherever it is translated, it means a swimming style. Krabbeln is no good phrase in the German version of this emote. I think I’ll insert How about a stroke.

Btw: a software for editing emotes is coming up… :o)

  22. fatman - August 15th, 2008 @ 12:42 am EDT

I looked up kraulen, it is also translated as to fondle, which means to touch. Fondle also has bad “adult” meanings. Stroke/stroking is the best.

    kraulen: http://dict.tu-chemnitz.de/dings.cgi?lang=en&service=deen&opterrors=0&optpro=0&query=kraulen

    fondle:

If you don’t mind, I’ll e-mail you my reply (using your website e-mail) or post in your website instead, out of respect for Mania. :-) I’ve been adding my own emotes to the files and they seem to be coming out nicely.

It is wunderbar to have the software to edit emotes! :-D

    How I love this addon!
Right now I’m trying it on my newest pet, a wind serpent called Nyoka..

“Nyoka considers the meaning of life and draeneis” is really something that makes people stop and stare ;P
