One Single Chimera – Updated!

Classdragon & NuramocGhostcrawler just posted an interesting if somewhat frustrating teaser on the WotLK Beta Hunter forum:

I really hate to mention this, but there is currently a single chimera that is tamable and he might even be a rare spawn. I feel bad making you run all over the world trying to find him. Next patch there will be many more.

So off we go to search! First person to send me a screenshot of this bad boy as a pet gets a … well, gets their screenshot posted here.

[Update] Glassdragon found him! It’s Nuramoc, the rare level 70 chimera from Netherstorm. I’ve added the pic above — but be sure to click on the small version to see him in his full-sized glory! (Nuramoc, not Glassdragon, although he’s in there too.)

Chimeras are a Cunning pet (that is, they use the Cunning talent tree) and their family skill is Froststorm Breath. Like devilsaur skill, there only seems to be one rank so far:

Froststorm Breath (Rank 1): Your pet simultaneously breathes frost and lightning at an enemy target, inflicting Frost and Nature damage and slowing the target. (40 Focus, Instant, 30 yd range, 10 sec cooldown)

Wow — those two heads are really handy!

Ah, also, they eat meat.

  1. hey Maina i really have been askingthe question alot and i was wondering if you could answer. I know how to take a screenshot but im not sure were it goes after wards or how i put it on a website for that matter think you can help ive wanted to take a screenshot so you could help me name a pet i have and hey mabye ill even find the chimera your talking about but to do that i need to know how to well like i said earlyer where it goes and how to put it on so can you help me?

  2. Deidare: Did you not get my e-mail about that? I wondered why you hadn’t said anything, but if you didn’t get the e-mail then that would explain it. :>

  3. @Mania haha oh lol you sent me an e-mail well that would exsplain it im sorry my lab tops the one with the e-mail and i dont use it often so when i get to it ill read it.

  4. According to Wowhead, there are two Chimera’s flagged rare. The Razza, as Maree mentioned who is a Rare Boss in the arena outside DM, and The Evalcharr, a rare in Ashzara. If its one thats already in game, its most likely The Evalcharr as I doubt a boss would ever be tameable.

  5. Hm, on second thought, he said a single Chimera that he *thinks* may be rare. That implies to me that its a named/unique, but could possibly not be rare.

3 other possibilites come to mind.

Brumeran, a named Chimera in Winterspring that’s the objective of a horde quest
Chimaera Matriarch, I *believe* this is a unique mob, and only one will spawn at a time.
Lord Lakmaeran, a tough boss during the AQ questchain, but I doubt its him for the same reasoning as The Razza.

  6. *nods at Darsh* I was thinking the same thing about named/elites.

Unfortunately I’m not at all sure I can check the Razza. And the Evalcharr doesn’t seem to be up.

  7. Man if you cant tame razza…. i mean look at him hes prettey cool but Ghostcrawler did say that they mite fix the stuff in a patch right so hey mabye he will be tamable

  8. I don’t know if they’re listed elsewhere but I thought I’d mention a couple rare beasts we couldn’t tame before that I’ve come across:
    - Swiftmane, a zhevra in the Barrens
    - Ironeyes (or something), a basilisk in Shimmering Flats
    - Ooze, cool-looking yellow worm in Dustwallow
    - Hissperik (or something), a nice blue-and-black basilisk in the Desolace
    - Antilas, a hippogryph in Azshara
    - And, finally, I remember seeing a rare chimera in Azshara called The Evercharr or something like that. So get on that.

  9. I’ve added the other info that Glassdragon sent me to the post (faimly skill and diet). I need to get this stuff up on Petopia now as well.

  10. I’ll be very happy when Wrath is finally out and I can work towards getting one of these guys for my hunter.  (Draenei + exotic pet = win.)

However, I think I’ll stick with one of the blue-and-white ones like the Evalcharr or a Chillwind.  Nuramoc’s unique purple coloring is nice, but the Outland chimera model is overall rather ugly.

  11. Nuramoc. Man he’s messed me up getting motes or mining nodes.
Hope we get better pet skins.

Sign, seems blizzards idea of “exotic” is plan jane mobs that are currently ingame and their only exoticness is that they’re normally untamable.
where is the totally new pets like the new wolfs?

  12. *drool* :O it’s so cool! I wonder what other exotic pets there will be. Talbuk lol! XD (joke)

I think Basalisks will be an exotic pet, & have something like Crystal Gaze like the ones in STV, & maybe even Diemetradons! :O

  13. It is a cool pet, been having a lot of fun with it. Until now I have stayed away from the Cunning pets as I am usually only interested in raiding/dps pets.
The Froststorm Breath can hit incredibly hard, and has a pretty long range.

    @Concrete:
I am sure there will be. I am actually liking the Wooly Rhino models, it would prolly be a tanking pet, and it looks cool.
I just hope that there are 2-3 Exotic Pets per tree, giving hunters a bit of variety.

Thank god for more stable slots, cause mine are all reserved already. :)

  14. If I remember right, its already been stated that next build more chimeras will be made tameable. I think Numa was more of an easter egg for observant hunters. Further, and bad news for any non-beast masters, is that they will be implimenting the fifty one point beast master talent soon, so exotics will only be tameable by them. But for the moment I think they wanted testing for their first couple of exotic pets.

  15. Yeah, the chimera loosk really cool, and he is deffinately powerful…it looks like he is too powerful to me. Yeah, I still like the old pets and the old pets look like they won;t be needed if the other “exotics” are as powerful. I kinda thought Blizzard would try to even the pets’ “usablity” a little bit with the expansion, but it looks like they are just making some families even more powerful. What’s the point in having more than a pet or two if the pet or two that you have are amazingly powerful. I realize that all pets are supposed to have their own uses some for PvP, some for PvE), but when something this powerful comes along, why do you really need to swap out. Ah well, I’ll just keep my spider and get my bum kicked. And I was really hoping fror an even playing field

  16. Ah chimeara’s, eh? I might just grab one of these babies. Get me all, or almost all flying pets. :D I really hope the birds that look like the tauren flight form become tamable…I’d love to have a matching pair of “druids”. I’m sure there will be new models available and not just old pets suddenly made tamable. I do agree that the white chimearas are probably the prettiest…and will probably be what I’m getting. I’m all ready leveling another hunter so I can tame more beasts.

  17. Dweezil, the chimaeras look strong, but also keep in mind they’re probably going to be “Exotic” in the actual release. Exotic will be something more BM exclusive. Most people still won’t play with Chimaeras or Devilsaurs because again, it comes down to your playing style on which pet you choose. =)

  18. @Gogey:

Some really nice crits, low 4k, but thats without Cornered or Feeding Frenzy active, so that could go 7k or more in theory. Normal regular crits are around 3k more or less.

  19. I think, as always, there will be a period of time right after Wrath releases when EVERYONE will have an exotic pet except for the hard core MM an Survival specced people. As the months roll on, you’ll see a decrease in the number of devilsaurs/chimeras/what have you, until it balances back out again. Thats the way it always goes. When felguard were introduced, you couldn’t so much as move in Stormwind without seeing seven.
