Name That Pet: Evandelle’s Araga

Evandelle & CatFinal Name: Kisa (And see the end of the post for a new picture of Evandelle and Kisa.)

Today we have a real rarity to name: the beautiful and elusive lioness Araga! Evandelle, a young Draenei hunter from the Blackwater Raiders realm, writes:

I have just tamed this beautiful lioness, and I plan on never getting rid of her, EVER, so thus, I need the perfect name!

To start off with, to describe myself, although I play on a RP server, I don’t RP very much at all, I’m more into PvP. I’m planning on taking this cat with me to level 70 and into the battlegrounds.

I’ve tamed many rare pets, from Dishu the cheetah (who I later named Spot), to Humar the Pridelord (later Achilles) and Echeyakee (name didn’t change). I love showing them off, and watching them grow as I level.

I would like a strong name to fit her elusive reputation, and I LOVE names that mean things in other languages, and although Araga is a very nice name, I would rather not name her that. I like a lot of Greek and Roman names, but nothing that is of complex nature … such as WhiteMist … or something like that.

I’m not really all that picky, I just need ideas! So please help me find a name for her, so I don’t have to keep referring to her as ‘Cat’ forever. :(

We can do ideas! And hopefully we can come up with some ideas as rare and precious as this cat is herself.

Evandelle with Kisa[Update] Evandelle let us know that she named her lovely cat Kisa, and she sent along a new picture of the two of them together as well. Click on the small version here to see the full-sized version, with name!

I vote Ishizu. I’ve always found Araga to be one of the most interesting pets out there (even more so then that Ghostsaber that always seems to be the fad). Ishizu sounds exotic, so i picked it ^^ GL naming her !

i suggest “Kallisti,” the inscription on discordia’s golden apple. It means “for the prettiest” and the desire of several goddesses for the apple started the trojan war. To me, this seems to evoke the beauty of the cat, the golden color, and the PVP preference of the player, where a pet is used to add chaos and strife (one of the meanings of the name Eris, the Greek name of Discordia) to a battlefield.

Taking in your requests of the name being possibly Greek or Roman, and a fitting tribute to Araga’s elusive nature, my best idea is Kalypso. It’s a variant of the Greek name Calypso, which means “to conceal”.
If that’s not a good fit for you, then what about Velia? Velia is a female variant of Velius, which is Roman for “concealed”.
Hoping one of these names catches your fancy,
    Seveard

Sarabi, Sarafina, Nala, Kiara, or Zira … all lioness names from Disney’s animated movies “The Lion King” and “TLK 2: Simba’s Pride”. Sarabi is Simba’s mother and Sarafina is Nala’s mother. Nala was Simba’s childhood friend and later becomes his love interest. Kiara is the name of Simba and Nala’s daughter. Zira was the name of Scar’s mate and is mother to Kovu, Kiara’s love interest.

Eeeeee! Araga! I spent a week and a half hunting for her and I was so happy when I tamed her. <3 I miss the rings on her tail though… :/

Anyhoo~ Names… I dunno why, but I’ve always favored Russian, Slavic, or Romanian names for Draenei. For pets, I normally name them from the same language. Here’s some suggestions!

    • Anzhela (Russian) = Angelic
    • Arisha (Russian) = Peace
    • Galina/Galya (Russian) = Calm, Light
    • Kazatimiru (Slavic) = Commanding peace
    • Kisa (Russian) = Kitten
    • Marisha (Russian) = Bitter
    • Matrona/Matryona (Russian) = Lady
    • Nadezhda (Russian) = Hope
    • Roksana (Russian) = Light
    • Sezja (Russian) = Protector
    • Siri (Scandinavian) = Beautiful victory
    • Valeriya (Russian) = To be strong

I have Shy-Rotam who is named Saran which is African for Joy.
Humar who is named Eshe which is African for Life.

Both of which would make great names for you new lovely Lioness, if you want something a little darker Chiwa is Swahili for Death.

    GL naming her.
