Mind you, Kaet is a dwarf, and my new pet did shrink quite a bit … but still — that’s one tall lizard.
He’s got a couple of problems, though. He doesn’t have a proper run animation — he just walks really fast. And he kept his heavy thudding footsteps (although thankfully he doesn’t actually shake the ground when he walks). He has a roaring animation he does when he’s sitting around idle, but it has no sound … so it rather looks like he’s coughing up a hairball.
My little devilsaur comes with Growl, Cower, Bite, the resistances, and Monstrous Bite (Rank 1):
Your devilsaur ferociously bites the enemy, causing 4 to 6 damage, and boosts its own attack power by 5% for 12 seconds. This effect stacks 3 times. (25 Focus, Instant, Melee Range, 10 sec cooldown)
He uses the Ferocity talent tree and doesn’t appear to have any special talents.
Oh, and by the way — Kaet is completely untalented. So while it is likely that devilsaurs are exotic pets, it’s not currently linked with the 51-point Beast Mastery hunter talent.
(By the way, my thanks to Shinryu Masaki for e-mailing me about the devilsaur & chimaera news mere seconds after it appeared. *grin*)
I wonder what happens if you tame an exotic pet, then respec from BM to the other trees — will the pet be unusummonable until you spec back?
It feeds on clefthoof and gronn.
Why, casters, of course!
“What I want to know is, what do you feed a devilsaur?”
They usually eat PCs when in the wild.
Heh!
Looks like they just eat meat, actually.
As for what happens when your respec away from BM, Ghostcrawler, the Hunter Beta Representative/Class Dev posted:
From a previous ManiasArcania article:
http://www.maniasarcania.com/2008/07/28/more-on-exotic-pets/
Why would you want your Devilsaur to eat anything other then meat?
Why, when I think of the Devilsaur as a Pet, do I get flashbacks from the movie “Galaxy Quest”, the scene where the summon Gir’ig’nak (The Rock Monster) into the room of Soldiers and he stomps them all.
Whats that Mr. Rogue? You’d like to kill me? SAY HELLO TO MY LITTLE FRIEND!
Stomp! Stomp! Stomp! Nom Nom Nom…….
I PRAY BLIZZARD THAT YOU DONT SHRINK THE DEVILSAUR WHEN WoTLK COMES LIVE PLEASEEE DONT PLEASEEE IM BEGGING
My guess about respeccing seems to be correct…
I want an ability to tame ghotly pets like the Grimtotem Spirit Guides and that ghost owl circling around the Honor Hold tower! :(
Agravaine, at the moment the word is that when you respec out of beast master, your pet is dismissed and cannot be resummoned, but you can stable them. Once stable you can not un-stable them.
A ‘spell’ book of pets would definitely be interesting. I still think we need a limit of like, I dunno, twenty or something, but a limit none the less! *Grins*
You have to admit, if we get a “spellbook” of pets that increases how many we can have tamed, that *technically* isn’t giving us more stable slots. Technically… <–> Have to wait and see I guess. :-)
I will say this, I am beyond stoked to be getting a Devilsaur, but I’m also kinda pissed. I spent the last week raising up a Raptor since Ravagers are gonna be Cunning now. Now this lovely creature comes around. All that effort, wasted.
Oh, well, I’ll see you all in Un’Goro
Well you do realise that it’s not really wasted? You’ll have your raised up raptor for two or three MONTHS…
I’m lvling up a second hunter as we speak and every time I spend gold to train him or tame a goofy pet just for one pet skill I say “Ok well, I won’t have to do this in months, but I’m not going to play for MONTHS with an inferior pet just waiting on it”
It’ll be worth it ‘now’ and untill LK comes out. So don’t see it as a waste. Just look on it as “The last time I”ll have to buy this skill or the last time I have to tame the ONE PIG in the world that has gore 7, just so my ravager can learn it…. sort of thing.
http://petopia.brashendeavors.net/html/articles/untameables.php
Since exotics have been confirmed (sort of) to only still be beasts, these are the only existing untameable beast families in-game. I reckon they will be added slowly with each beta patch, as they will all need to be given animations, stats, abilities, talents, etc.
Want to see an exotic tank pet, but I dont see much potential of that from this list.
Hydras can be cool though.
Omg it looks so cool, thanks for the picture Mania! Looking forward for more Exotic Pets!
I’m still sad, Bears should have been DPS Pets. Oh well… :(
f that I want worgen pets!
Worgen negroW O.o
dam man thats one big mutha fucker mi pet gets big like that some times onlii cuz its bugged.
i want one of those untamable worms so awesome :P
I want that two headed dog! Bring on the exotics!
Urge to roll a hunter . . . rising
And give me a giraffe next Blizzard! ;)
Sexy.
I demand Worms and Tripods now!
See the link above, a hunter taming Tyrannus at Netherstorm. He even shows him with Bestial Wrath on…
It’s a must for everyone to see imo

While in Beastal Wrath, I’d love to see a devilsaur pick up a Rogue or Pally in its mouth and shake them vigorously back and forth several times while chomping on them, then slam them to the ground and stomp on the Carcass until their heads explode. Call it justice. :)
I want a shark!!!!
:)
Actually I want a 2 headed dog, though a Chimera or a Tripod would be sort of cool.

Ok that was cool.. He’s big.. big big.. tauren on a tybuk big.. but not “TOO BIG”
Nice… Probably won’t get one on my guy, not his style, but I’m glad they’re out there should I ever want to.
Thanks Mania! First thing I thought when I saw the topic on the WoW hunter forum saying they where in the last beta database was “OMFG Mania has to know about this!” lol Sucks the Chimeras aren’t tamable right now though. But still I’m really looking forward to taming the white/purple Devilsaur since it will match well with my Warp Stalker. =P
Heh, I’ve only just now realized – I can no longer go kill those big giant dinos in the crater – not if they’re legit hunter taming fodder! I have to admit to enjoying any revenge killing of those guys, just because they always seem to easily sneak up on my lvl 50ish characters when I’m questing in the crater.
I really hope people start taming and keeping them – can’t see enough of those big guys as pets, wandering around cities. (You know they dream of going all Godzilla over the place too!)

Dear gawd…that red/brown Devilsaur calls to me. I must have one!
I imagine the Netherstorm Dome and Ungoro Crater are going to be filled with camping hunters the day WotLK is released.
Holy Shit… I want one so badly!!!
New spectator sport in capital cities: hunter devilsaur duels.
Well that’s pretty xciting! Although having been a long standing fan of Raptors anayway I don’t overly have a desire to tame one.
The Kurken however – now that my friends is a different story entirely…
yes. epic win. lets hope blizz doesn’t nerf their size now.
i hope Hydra can be the next exotic pet. :)

This is awesome news. It’s times like this I’m glad I rerolled as a hunter.
Other exotics that I want to see:
- Other dinosaurs (the diemetradons, etc)
- 2-headed dogs
- Clefthoofs
- Elekks
- Hydras
- The worms in Silithus
- Stags
- Cows (the critter)
I’m looking forward to more “Exotic” pets, as long as they *look* good. And especially white/albino ones. I love white/albino animals! lol
As a hunter myself im out of my mind seeing those pictures.. and i just so happen to be dwarf myself aswell.. male kind tho… this creature is gonna be 3x the size of myself.. not including beastialwrath .. probably 4x the size :S
1 part of me says.. omg i need that.. its gonna be awesome
other part is just a paranoid dwarf wandering infront of a 20 feet tall monster feeling like a lump of meat :S .. do i dare tame it ?!
..Im…So…GETTING ONE!
HURRY UP AND LAUNCH WotLK!!!
I am Ukrainian so sory for my english. If you can tok with some one of Blizzards wich can make any desigens? If yes can u tel thet taming non player druids is a great wish of all the hanters (the pet wich look like druid form it will be great)
This is a great sign that Blizz is listening to us, as we want BIG pets. I know every hunter will have one come release day but after a month or so there will only be a few of us who are loyal to our Devilsaur :)
All we need is a kodo/cleefthoof or a huge dinosaur to tank.
Though I doubt there is a healer pet on the horizon, that would be to op in groups, or is there?
People talking about the worms–I’ve noticed there’s a new worm skin in the Wrath model files that’ve been making the rounds, the Jormungar worms.
They’re PRETTY. Like sea slugs. I really hope those end up as exotics at least.
ZHEVRAS! come on blizz do it for me?
I don’t think sharks or threshadons can happen, simply because they live and are very water prominent creatures. Heck, watching a shark or a threshadons sorta swim in the air, or along the ground would be funny, though!
I don’t see anything wrong with making water beasts tamable, but making them only usable in water – rather like having a tanking pet, a dps pet, etc. Perhaps they’d have to make the other pets more prone to drowning (they can drown now, though it’s only happened to me once, when I was AFK).
My main has Hook of the Master Angler, from winning the fishing contest, so she can turn into a fish whenever she’s in the water. It would be cool to have a hammerhead as a companion.
On the subject of the Devilsaur and Monstrous Bite (Rank 1), it’s difficult to see how a spell with a 12 second duration and a 10 second cooldown can stack 3 times, but I guess that’s just something which hasn’t been fully thought-out yet.
The Monstrous Bite thing is simple. It last for 12 seconds but has a cooldown of 10 which means the second bite goes off before the first expires. This refreshes the duration of the first bite and stacks to 2. The third would refresh the second and stack to 3. Repeating this over and over, you would think that the Devilsaur would have the extra 15% AP constantly. However, pet miss rates (especially for boss fights) are around 10-12% even talented. This means that the Devilsaur WILL miss some Monstrous Bites which means the buff will expire before the next bite refreshes it. The AP buff will be lost and the next bite will start the cycle again. I suppose you could be very lucky and have your pet not miss many, therefore keeping the buff up near constantly.
