Name That Pet: Tzeporah’s Tallstrider

Tzeporah & TallstriderToday we have a request from the Tzeporah, a very young Draenei hunter (level 11 when she sent in the request!) from the RP realm of Moon Guard.

When the Exodar crash-landed into Azeroth about a year and a half ago, the devastation of the loss of the Draenei’s people and the havoc they wreaked on the surrounding ecosystems weighed heavily on the new citizens of Azeroth.

Tzeporah, being quiet and keeping mostly to herself, didn’t make a lot of friends to lose; and she had no family to call her own before the crash. Although the sudden landing was jarring, and she now had to learn a whole new planet of lore, customs, races, languages, flora, and fauna. This was an exciting prospect to her – but first, she needed to regain her strength and help where she could around the crash site.

After some time, however, when other races started to float in and out – mostly Night Elves, she found – she heard of a one “Darkmoon Faire”, one of the most sensational events on the face of Azeroth. There were games, prizes, storytellers, shows; and best of all, they traveled around Azeroth constantly. It was the perfect opportunity for an up and coming Draenei to learn more about the planet she had smashed into, so she set out almost immediately to find these caravans and to join up with them…

…her searching took her all the way to the Elwynn forest where, outside of the infamous Goldshire, the tents and wagons were circled together and, judging by the amount of activity going on, they were up and running. As she tentatively walked through, she found that she garnered a lot of strange,
bewwildered and interested looks – and then she realized, that most of the adventurers and commoners here had probably never seen a Draenei, or at least, not up close. But oh, the sights, the sounds, the smells! They positively overwhemed her senses as she waded her way through the crowds to try to find the leader of the group – but instead, he found her.

“Excuse me, miss?” called a tiny voice from above her.

She turned her head and startled, as there was a tiny man atop the shoulder of a huge, one eyed brute!

The smaller of the two laughed and said, “Oh, I’m sure that we look an intimidating sight, miss.” He clapped the brute’s shoulder and said, “This is Burth, my bodyguard. Impressive ogre, isn’t he?”

It was all she could do to nod her head as the little man slid down the front of the ‘ogre’ and reached up to shake her hand.

“My name’s Silas – Silas Darkmoon. How are you enjoying yourself at my faire?”

Tzeporah took his hand to shake it, blinked, and stammered in the broken Common she had learned in her travels to get from the crash site to Elwynn, “I am to… have a good time here. Much… What is word… Exci… Excit…”

“Excitement?” the gnome offered with a smile.

“Yes! Excitement.” “I’m glad to hear you’re enjoying yourself, miss. How would you like to be a part of the excitement every day?”

Her eyes widened and, despite her usually calm demeanor, nodded fervently. This was what she was here for! “Yes! I wo… would like!”

Silas laughed and nodded with her. “Good, good, I was hoping you’d say that! You see, you’re a novelty among us, and I think having you on our team would be a boon…” His voice was lost among the din of the crowds, as he climbed up on Burth and waved her along to follow them – which she did all too eagerly. A new life, a new way, one of adventure… She could hardly wait!

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

While at the Faire, Tzeporah’s claim to fame was her acts with an unusual pink tallstrider. They would dance together, perform tricks, all manner of exotic things befitting the Darkmoon Faire. The two bonded closely. Tzeporah got to see the world, learn more about it in her travels with the Faire, but still her lust for adventure got the better of her. While agreeing to stay on with the caravan when it would come to town in Mulgore and Elwynn, and just maybe in Terrokar Forest, the Draenei was given leave the explore the world – with the tallstrider she had come to love by her side.

And this is where I hit a problem. What should the tallstrider’s name be? I’d like something serious (nothing at all like SunburnedChicken :P) but also that has an exotic feel to it, like it used to belong to the Darkmoon Faire, or like a name that might befit a gypsy. The tallstrider is female.

Thank you very much for your help, everyone! :D

Any help we can give is amply repaid by sharing this fine story. So … what have we got for an exotic, gypsy-like (but not silly!) pink flamingo?

  1. Wow! What a great and unique backstory! Here’s a bunch beautiful gypsy names I found that might suit your feathered friend…

    Adara – Beautiful
    Aditi – Free and unbounded
    Aleta – Wanderer
    Aminta – Protector
    Czigany – Gyspy
    Gitana – Gypsy
    Ilona – Beautiful one
    Natayla – Dancer

    Good luck! ^_^

  2. I have a dwarven hunter who named her killer flamingo ‘Tourmaline’… as pink tourmaline is the most precious/valuable of the type. Also, another handsome pink gemstone is ‘Kunzite’… which is a variety of spodumene, though I think you can see why people use the alternative name for it.

  3. The thought of a dancing pink flamingo… Hehehehehe….

    Charles
    Dans* (dutch)
    Tanz* (German)
    Ballo* (Italian)
    Danza* (spanish)
*Dance in different languages. Not the perfect translation, sorry.

  4. How abot suach a wellknown name as Esmiralda?
or Zemfira? those 2 are defenetly the gypsy names
mayve you will like Asoll? that’s the name of a girl that was waiting for her beloved to come back on a ship under scarlet sail=)
    gl naming!

PS thanx for the suggestions for the couples cats!! i was eager to name my tiger Bongo or Bonga, but it was restricted by the server, as well as Cuba and Bato, i decided the cat should have her own name after all and named her Shy. As for my boyfriends cat, he was named Mute, because of a weird bug – he never makes any sounds while fighting or attacking..cheers=)

  5. oh my spelling is awfull=) sorry for that? i think i’d rather go sleep))
PPS: Ah yes! great job, Mania!

  6. Well i loved your story very good, as for exotic names ive got’em how about?
Deidare (me lol), Madare, Elric, Alphonse, Yamamoto, Kenpachi, Ichimaru, Aizen, Toib, Kisama, or Zetsu hope you choose one! Oh and i know this is off subject but can somone tell me how to take a screenshot and put it up on this site for my own pet name thing… lol or a Worldofwarcraft.com so i just need to know how to take a screenshot.

  7. Deidare – To take a screenie just click the “Print Screen” button near the top of the keyboard (Well, it’s on the top row of mine, so it probably is on yours, too…). If you want the action bars and other such things to disappear, press Alt-Z, take a picture, then press Alt-Z again to show your action bars and such again. ^_^

  8. Azalea

I also second Kelanath’s idea for gemstone names. I suggest Morganite, Ruby, or Sapphire if you decide to go this route.

  9. Hm. Lets take a look at my flamingos first.
Luxuria (Means lust in latin. Part of my ’7 deadly sins’ project)
Soccothrates (And his hunter Dalliah, obvious Arcatraz ref, teehee)

Luxuria maybe? ‘Cause latin always sounds fancy.

Offtopic; Mazzranache is actually male. Maur Raincaller tells in his quest, that “and it took a nasty bite from my shoulder. He was as terrible as my grandfather described”. Well, but since you made up a different story for your ‘strider, it doesn’t matter. Just thought I would point it out :|

  10. My dwarf hunter as the Strider Clutchmother from Darkshore. She’s named Shimmer, for her beautiful shimmering feathers. Perhaps something akin to that, if Shimmer doesn’t work for you.

  11. hmmm interesting way to meet lol
but in the game it already has a name something with a m i forget but if u want another i think kamalia is right with natayla !!!

  12. Lol Deidare I can tell what animes you like to watch.

On topic, though, lets see what I can find for names…

Jivanta – named my priest this, it means ‘giver of life’

Dakota – native american for ‘friendly one’, figured I’d toss that one out there since the flamingo-bird comes from Mulgore.

Calypso – greek for ‘she who hides’, also the name of a dance, I believe.

    Brisa – spanish for ‘beloved’

Mauve – french for ‘violet colored’

Sancia – italian, from latin ‘sacred’

    Sania – hindi for ‘pearl’

    Saoirse (sare-sha)- Irish for ‘liberty’

    Zaina – swahili for ‘beautiful’

There are many more, if you’d prefer one that begins with a specific letter, or one that has a specific meaning, I can look it up. My references range from online to this book I have, “The Baby Name Bible”. According to this book, my IRL name (Amber) is outdated, lol…

  13. I’m not sure what, if anything, it means but I’ve always liked the name Vitani. Kodos to you if you can recognize it without me telling you. It’s kinda obscure. Hint: think Disney.
    .
    .
    .
    .
It’s the name of the main evil lion’s daughter in Lion King 2. Yeah, um, it has absolutely nothing to do with flamingoes or your story. Just a neat, exotic sounding name. Good luck naming!

  14. If she brought her up amongst the Darkmoon Faire folk, it stands to reason that they would have helped to name her.

    So…

    RendiphilparaEstaMystara.

    Or Candyneck for short.

  15. How abour Venus? Stick with me on this one. Venus is a goddess of love, pink is the normal colour associated with love too hence the name Venus. Just a thought :))
