Last night I finally figured out how to get the WoW Model Viewer to work with the WotLK beta files.
I promptly took pictures of all the new pet skins I could fins (the ones that didn’t crash the model viewer anyway) and tried to match them up to the pets I have seen so far in my wanderings.
And the result is now posted on Petopia!
As I mention there, it is very likely that I have made many mistakes with these new pets — especially what they look like. It’s hard sometimes to get a good look at a creature when you can’t tame it and it lives in a strange, dangerous, oddly-lit land. So if you see any mistakes please let me know and I’ll get them fixed as soon as I can.
At this point, I’ve only explored a couple of zones — and I know I missed areas in those zones as well. So this is by no means a complete list of new pets. I’ll be adding to it as I go. And of course I let you know about new stuff here as well.

My hands-down favorite so far? Surprisingly, the white spiky worg. I didn’t expect to like these guys, but I really do.

My favorites are the leopard (I’ve always wanted more cats with that model!) and the new carrion bird.
I’m gonna have a hard time keeping my current pet, with all these new ones ;p

I’m really impressed in how good the new wolves look! I may have to make some hard decisions since I’m keeping my very first pet, a Prairie Wolf Alpha, with me forever. I guess I’ll just need to decide whether I should abandon my druid bird with its handy screech in raid, or my snappy red Outlands raptor.. Or I can be like everyone else and hope for a 4th stable slot! ><
Oh man that new cat is awesome, and the spiky worgs, and eagles, OMG. Another Stable slot please Blizzard? I dunno what I’m going to do. All those pets look so AWESOME.
I’m going into Wrath with just my ghost wolf, but I dunno how I’ll deal with just 3 stable slots.
Think I may need to level another Hunter XD

So I’ll be updating the Petopia page again this afternoon, as soon as I get her data integrated. It also looks like I have some of the colors wrong, so her screenshots are really going to come in handy.
If I remember correctly, the new wolf models are called “Saber Worgs”.
I also can’t wait to get my hands on the Eagle model!

I love the leopard, it’s just… Great.
The carrion bird looks silly, with huge heads.
The pale bear is super, and I will probubly tame one.

Sorry for double comment, but I am thinking the new boars will have really spiney backs. After all, they are called “BRISTLEpine”
A friend of mine, who was in the alpha, said that hunters were having a lot of fun with a new family of pets called Protodragons, and that each color of protodragon had a different breath type attack. Have you seen any of these around or were they removed when they switched to beta?

I like the riding skin leopard too, I always loved the skin but hated it was on a ‘small’ cat.
And the spikey worgs got worked on since I last saw them, I like the white one too, and the black and the grey.
.. wish Blizzard would give a 4th stable slot.
Kiaron: The protodragons I have run across so far say they cannot be tamed, but I will keep an eye out for any that can. :>
Great looking pets so far. Its going to be very hard to choose for me… I have a polar bear at the moment which I really want to keep, but the zombie polar bear look is so awesome too… but 2 tank bears, I dont know…
I also like the baldheaded eagle model, but so far Im not really liking the cunning talent tree, I wish birds of prey were ferocity and carrion birds were cunning tbh. Would make more sense too if you look at the talents (like eating a corpse…).
Lets all wish Blizzard will give us more stable slots huh? :)

I wonder…what kind of animations do the spikey worg have? Do they share them with the “worg” models (boring!) or with the “wolf” model (with howling animation and such)?

Very strange that the new Raven models were put in with the carrion birds in a recent patch but there’s a brown one identical to it in WOTLK that is mixed in with Birds of Prey. I’m curious to see if they end up moving the Raven.

I believe the Saber worgs share the attack animation of the basic worg. Their standing animation from what I have seen shows them matching the worgs. But in a video shown about them, they seem to have the attack animations of both wolves and worgs, (the video was poor quality). I love the white saberworg either way, but it’d be cute to have them howl. I also hope they fix the ghost wolf run animation someday.
I guess the protodragons mentioned above are among the exotic pets that can be tamed with the last BM talent.
As for these models, they are looking great, I guess I’m gonna get my lvl 30 hunter to 70 in time for wotlk aswell as starting again on my old lvl 70 hunter
I wasn’t plaining on a Cunning pet . . . but bald eagles? I’m a big bald eagle, my office decor is all bald eagle. I can’t not get one. Maybe they will swap the trees between birds of pray and carrion birds. (As above it doesn’t really make sense the way it is now.
Too bad Bjomolf isn’t tamable, I like the coloration.

I love the brown worg! He looks very werewolfish and thats what I like about him. But hes not tamable for now…

WOW!! man, those boars i hear look like Helboars, i’d tame one. the worgs? BETTER than i excpected. i was honestly expecting them to be all bark and no bite (heh, dog joke) the moths, i dont like the skill, and i can NOT wait to see what “exotic pets” come. hopefully one of those exotic pets will be the brown/black saberworg thing

just looking at the new pets and I was wondering, are you sure you have the mob names for the the two eagle skins right? I noticed three of the names listed are on both eagle skins, including both the tameable versions, unless of course blizz has graciously left us a new colour changing pet

fantastic work, Mania and big ups to all you beta people who are fedding in the info. I havent had a Beta invite (yet) so this is the next best thing, damn I’m psyched about Wrath!
It looks like the Fjord Hawk shares the same model as the Dire Raven, has that been reloacted to Birds of Prey too or are they still Carrion birds?

Thank goodness, for 3 Stable slots! Gonna release my Z.G. raptor and Tame myself an albino raptor (a Devil saur, once I’m able to)! And I’m gonna Tame an eagle! Likely name it after a unique-named Eagle from “Lord of the Rings”. lol
As much as I like all of the new stuff I’ve seen, I still have my doubts. I still feel like they’re taking the pets out of their current pigeonholes and putting them in new ones with the Cunning/Tenacity/Ferocity stuff. Why not allow all pets to have access to three talent trees, but once you spend one point in one tree the other two are blocked out? That way a hunter could have say a Tenacious Ravager or a Ferocious Turtle. Maybe some hunters would rather their Bear be a DPS powerhouse instead of a meat shield?
Also, I’m worried that there are still a good number of untamable beasts and that caster beasts still have inferior stats. Sticking Nether Rays into the cunning template won’t change the fact that all but one skin have caster stats! :(

Mania, if you head into Grizzly Hills you should find some tameable eagles with the bald eagle (Fjord Hawk Matriarch) model.
Regarding Dire Ravens vs the Hawks they share a model with: Ravens are carrion birds and Hawks are birds of prey because that’s the way the birds are in real life. So even if the colour remains the only difference between the two, don’t expect to see the ravens changing family.
Regarding the “Helboar” boars in Northrend: those models are marked “placeholder” in-game, so we have no idea how the real models will look.
Regarding caster pets: one of the blues did say that caster pets were going to go away. Even if it hasn’t happened yet, there are plenty of builds to come between now and the release of Wrath.
Regarding untameable pets: as I’ve commented before, while there are some things the devs can easily make tameable straight away, they also do additional passes for things to make tameable once zones are more fully developed. I wouldn’t be surprised to see some of those untameable pets become tameable in later builds.
Regarding protodragons: I’m pretty sure those are actually dragonkin rather than beasts. I’ll check next time I log in.
Kristy; If I were you, I would keep my raptor, untill it’s 100% certain that Devilsaurs can be tamed.

Bhork; It looks like they’ve modelled them after worgs. But maybe they’ll give them some new animations? One could always hope.
Another thing; Why the *insert random swearword* are the flutterers in Bloodmyst untameable?? And I was planning to give such a critter to 1 of my hunters.
I LOVE them hehe The new cat is just adorable.. Im a succor for riding models for cats.
And maybe, just maybe some of the untameable, like the bold eagle, is tameable with the bm talent, exotic petS? :D
Mania, doing /suggest in-game in the beta may be the best way of reminding the developers of mobs that they have neglected to make tamable (e.g. they may have only checked the Outland zones when looking for moths to make tamable).
So my current favourite pet skin (brown eagle from ZA) is now tameable, but they just go and add an even better one (bald eagle) that’s untameable? No fair Blizz!
