Name That Pet: Ninian’s Wolf

Ninian and WolfToday’s Name That Pet request comes from a lovely young Draenei hunter named Ninian.

My character’s name is Ninian. She tends to be the shy and quiet sort. Under the protection of her father, a master skinner, she traveled towards Ironforge in order to sell animal pelts. While traveling through the Wetlands her father was attacked by a small group of orcs. Ninian ran as her father held the group at bay.

She waited at Thelsamar for 3 days before deciding to continue alone in hopes of finding him in Ironforge. Walking through Dun Morogh she had gotten lost during a blizzard. Finding shelter inside a cave she was attacked by a wolf. After beating it away with her pack, Ninian realized that the creature was half starved and barely standing.

She opened her pack and gave it some strips of dried meat. Once the storm lifted she started off again, her new friend following happily behind.

I do tend to role play a lot. Looking for unique but not silly names.

We’ll see what we can do!

  1. Waya, cherokee for “Wolf”. Sorry I’m unoriginal but I never was good at naming pets. I named my wolf Fang and Kiba (Japanese “fang”) lol so hope you find something you like.
    Yay wolves!

  2. Well, I looked up your character’s name, Ninian, and found her namesake to be related to Scotland. How about these Scottish names? You didn’t specify if your wolf was male or female, so I gave both types of names.

    Alasdair/Alastair : Male, “Protector of men/mankind”
    Diarmad: Male, “Without envy”
    Edme : Female, “Protector”
    Farquhar: Male, “The dear one”
    Finlay/Finn: Male, “The fair warrior”
    Mungo: Male, “A dear friend”
Alexina/Zena: Female, “The defender or helper of mankind”

I liked Finlay or Finn best since you have a light-colored wolf. Hope these help or inspire you!

  3. Dìlleachdan (Scottish Gaelic “an orphan, Irish dílleachda, Old Irish dilechtu”)
Tàcharan (Scottish Gaelic “a ghost, yelling of a ghost, an orphan”)

It seems fitting given both the wolf’s poor circumstance when your character found him and the uncertainty of your character’s own father.

  4. Wait, so, did Ninian ever find her father?
    My suggestions:

Cosette – Character from “A Tale of Two Cities”; A young orphan girl saved from certain doom and raised by one of the main protagonists, much the same as you rescued your young wolf.

Gemini – “The Twins” in Roman mythology. Twins referencing the kindred spirit nature of your relationship, having met both cold, hungry and frieghtened in a cave.

  5. Kind of weird…but how about ShaZaram It is a Mixture of Dreanei and Night Elven languages. It means blade of light kind of like the fostering between the world of the elves and the mysterious world of the Dreanei. Reasoning behind this is that this young Dreanei from another world has found a friend and guardian in a creature of Azeroth.

Other suggestions might be ShaKurenai which would roughly translate to Light Redeemed. This is Ninian’s native tongue which I personally find beautiful.

Correct spellings would be Sha’Kurenai and Sha’Zaram but alas..no other charecters may be used. (I love wolves by the way and I like your story behind the meeting of these two.)

  6. Sorry about the double post but I also thought Sha’Kurenai would be good becuase she has sort of “Redeemed” this wolf and gave it a second chance. (sorry again Sometimes I think faster than I type lol.)

  7. I like gemini but then again I am one lol

I have the black wolf skin and named her Lyca you can use it if you like : )

  8. Taix if it’s a male, or maybe Grimtooth. I also like Naemel.

For female, try Aldrena, or Cicadra… They don’t mean anything in particular.

  9. A lot of times I suggest bestial names on here, mostly because what we’re naming are, well, beasts.

However, you RP as the daughter of a businessman of sorts, and I think the wolf would be much better suited with a proper, classy name that contrasts its nature.

“Winchester”, “Ambleson”, “Augury”, and “Fallowsworth” all strike me as good names for a shy, well-reared Draenei to name a wolf as she’s trying to fit in to human and dwarven society.

  10. Well i think a beautiful name for that wolf would be!

    Tagert

just a mix up in words from target but i like it! :P

  11. Here a couple that imo sound good
    Male: Atticus,Camus,Kaan,Takar,Lacuna.

Female: Cana,Minsi,Ylva,Lobolita(spanish for little wolf no joke:),Rakesha

  12. If it’s going to be “Little Wolf”, as a girl it’s LobAlita, not Lobolita.

Love Farquhar and Alastair and Anirniq.
