Name That Pet: Kelanath’s Raptor

Kelanath and RaptorFinal Name: Hazzaleth

Emerald raptors sure are popular! Today we have a request from a young Blood Elf hunter from Moon Guard named Kelanath Longtooth, who is looking for help naming his new raptor. Kelanath writes:

Kelanath, a square-peg of a young hunter on Moon Guard, has been talked into a raptor by his trollish significant other. Though he’s not sure about such a ’squishy’ pet (his previous ones have been an Enraged Ravager and a Silithid Creeper, both well-armored critters), he does bear a lot of respect for trolls, so he’s willing to give it a go.

A few notes about Kelanath Longtooth:
1) All of his pets are/have been green. He’s got a vague and unconscious obsession with the color, that has to do with an indirect connection to the Emerald Dream.
2) He hangs out with the Druids of the Cenarion Circle far more than he does with any other faction, and not-so-secretly wishes he was a druid.
3) He’s a scruffy, scarred-up nogoodnik (as far as other blood elves are concerned anyway), prefers the semi-nomadic life of the tauren to the (to him) stodgy and false atmosphere of Silvermoon, and takes some small pleasure in upsetting other blood elves by being boorish at them.
4) He’s come to follow the Earthmother, and the teachings of Cenarius, rather than follow more ‘typical’ paths for a blood elf.

As for the types of name … I’d prefer something descriptive and/or lore related … his previous pets have been Dreamscythe (the ravager, named after the dragon), and Jadeclaw (scorpid). Things tied to the Dream, to nature, that sort of thing. -And- I’m hoping for something that I’m not likely to stumble over someone else using. :D

Please, no silly stuff … Moon Guard is about the hardest of the hardcore RP servers out there, and I’m not going to saddle my poor belfy with a pet name that’s going to get me laughed at (or possibly reported!) So ‘Godzilla’ is out!

Make sure you check out the full-sized picture of Kelanath and his raptor (by clicking on the small pic above). There’s something about the composing of the colors in the screenshot that I find really wonderful.

So let the suggestions begin!

This was a challenge but I was able find a name from Warcraft lore that might be perfect for your emerald-skinned raptor. I hope you like it …

Nozdormu the Timeless is one of the Great Dragons who fought against the demons during the War of the Ancients. Following this intervention, he retreated into seclusion, immersing himself in his duties. He emerges only infrequently, when events require his direct presence. He intervened in the defeat of Deathwing at the hands of Krasus and his allies, one of the few times he has been seen in the skies of Azeroth. Nozdormu is tasked with ensuring that the flow of time occurs normally, without interruption, and that events happen as they are fated. To accomplish this mission, Nozdormu knows much about the nature of time. He uses his abilities and powers to prevent others from discovering these same secrets. Should a sorcerer or other mortal being begin to delve too deeply into magic that alters or affects time, Nozdormu always steps in to remove the threat, one way or another. http://www.wowwiki.com/Nozdormu

Well, to go with the theme started with Dreamscythe, there’s Weaver (personally my favorite name after Dreamscythe of the dragons in ST), Hazzaz, Morphaz, and Eranikus. The world dragons are Ysondre, Taerar, Lethon, and Emeriss, of which I like Taerar or Lethon best.

Dreamtracker, Dreamstalker, and Dreamroarer are all emerald drakes involved in guarding the various portals to the Dream.

Vethsera and Merithra are two green dragons involved with the War of the Shifting Sands/Ahn’qiraj/C’thun storyline. Vethsera is an agent of the flight, and Merithra is Ysera’s daughter who was captured by C’thun.

You mentioned trolls. My main hunter is a troll, one of his pets is a raptor named Rixari, what is the latin word for quarrel/scold/brawl. In my opinion, that sounds quite trollish. And it has a meaning too.

A raptor named something with dream. Hmmm. I really can’t think of one. Unless the dream is a nightmare about ripping fangs and slashing claws.

‘Emerald’ would be a lovely and simple name
I named mine ” Wren ” cause it reminded me of a bird some how

The obvious suggestion would be “Envy”, but I think that doesn’t quite fit lore, plus it’s a little too common. What about something like “Dreamwalker” or simply “Rem”. Sounds kinda trollish and is the abbreviation for rapid eye movement (the dream state of sleep).

According to WoWiki, Izsera is Darnassian for “green” . . .

    GrĂ¼n - german for green.
Sounds a bit orcish, but if you don’t mind that I think it would be a good name.

    Here are some,
    Fus’obeah is troll for Dreamwalker.
Nehjo in troll is simply dream.
    Hope this helps =)

I don’t know if this is suitable but you could try MotherInLaw because your pet reminds you of your significant other’s mother. . :)

Hehe, I’ve got a character in Moon Guard.

    Here’s a few suggestions.

    Dreamscale
    Emeraldtail
    Loyaldream

Smaragd - Middle English word for emerald.

It’s sound makes me think of dragons. Interestingly, it’s also the same as the modern German word for emerald.

  13. Kelanath - July 19th, 2008 @ 6:27 am EDT

I decided to go with the ‘dragon’ theme after all! Though not copying one specifically.

I finally settled on Hazzaleth, as a combination of Hazzas and Lethon, two members of the Green Flight.

Thanks for all the great suggestions!
