Patch 2.4.3: New Tameable Dragonhawk!

Silvermoon DragonhawkWell this is odd! You may have noticed a small item in the Patch 2.4.3 patch notes that said:

Blood Elf flightmasters outside of Silvermoon City and Tranquillien have traded in their bats for glorious fire-breathing dragonhawks.

Now dragonhawk taxis (automated mounts) were introduced in Patch 2.4.0 on the Isle of Quel’Danas, and like all taxi mounts they cannot be tamed. So nothing real exciting here, right?

Wrong! Frequent tipster Mugungo e-mailed me just a bit ago to let me know that someone apparently forgot to set the untameable flag on the new dragonhawks mentioned in the patch notes. They can be tamed — but unfortunately only by Alliance hunters!

And for dragonhawk aficionados, these lovely ‘hawks are well worth checking out. Not only are they they lowest level source of Fire Breath (Rank 2), but they are actually the lowest level non-caster dragonhawks, period! And they sport the sexy pink skin that can otherwise only be found in Botanica and Tempest Keep.

The dragonhawks outside Silvermoon and the ones outside Tranquillien are both of the same type, called Silvermoon Dragonhawks. They are level 65 Elite and know Fire Breath (Rank 2) when tamed.

You can find two Silvermoon Dragonhawks standing next to the Silvermoon flight master outside the walls of Silvermoon City. Another two are bracketing the Tranquillien flight master, who stands on the north side of Tranqullien.

On a PvP world, getting an Alliance character up to the Silvermoon flight master to tame one of these beauties might be a little tricky, but Horde players aside both the Silvermoon and Tranquillien flight masters are pretty easy to reach. (Hint: pick up the Zul’Aman flight point if you don’t already have it.)

And while taming one of the dragonhawks will PvP flag you, it does not appear to aggro either the flight master or the other dragonhawk. I was able to take Kaet out and tame a pretty pink dragonhawk with no trouble whatsoever.

Here’s hoping that Blizzard either opens these guys up to Horde hunters … or fixes them, but only after they give us a proper tameable version elsewhere!

Aw, 65, hehe. I’ve tamed the ones in Bot before, that was fun. Too bad I don’t have an alliance hunter high enough to get one. Still, Blizz will probably hot patch this soon. Hehe.

Almost makes me wish my main was Alliance. That’s pretty cool!

Nrargh… the only hunter I have that’s close to this is still not even 60 yet! (My 70 already has one of the Bot ones…)

I hope they don’t patch it! …. I know they will, as soon as someone tells them about it, but I hope it isn’t soon… Get ‘em while you can, folks!

What level are these dragonhawks? I might tame one just for the fun. ;)

This is out of place, sorry, but the Beta site is up, the patch notes are out, and the invitational e-mails are being sent, so Mania, you can start talking about the sensitive things now.

Thanks Mania, my Draenei hunter started out with a caster ‘hawk from this area. I just sent her over to get a new friend (she’s released the caster one ages ago).

And I doubt they’ll stay tamable for long…

Oh, how fun! :D I still think getting one out of Bot is a rite of passage for would-be dragonhawk falconers. ;)

And by the way–I don’t know if I mentioned this, but the purple phoenix-hawks in Tempest Keep, the level 72 ones? Beast Lore says they are in fact tameable. Given they have a knockback-charge and a very nasty manaburn AND they’re un-CCable, I don’t think you’d want to try taming one.

Oh darn! My dwarf is only 55 :-)
It’s hard, I don’t know if I want a red raptor, a red windserpent, or a red dragonhawk! But, maybe a dragonhawk, now that I see this, but lets hope its not fixed for a realy looong time… hehe

Well darn it!My Alliance alt hunter is only level 30,so this will likely get fixed before I’m high enough to get one.Which sucks cause those things are freaking gorgeous!

  14. Yvelle - July 18th, 2008 @ 5:04 pm EDT

They are gorgeous! I wish my highest Ally hunter was any where near that level (33rd night elf). Please, please, Blizz, don’t fix anytime soon (or ever).

I had to go out and get one just for fun. Too bad it’s not a unique skin so everyone knows where you ninjaed it from, but then on the other hand that means the Blizz Spoilsport Team can’t go and skin it back to “normal” once they nerf the ability to tame them. It’s really such a gorgeous little beastie for walking around in Shatt with if nothing else :)

I had one today. I got the boot now I have no pet. Did this happen to anyone else?

Wow, this totally works. I snuck down to Tranquillen and tamed one with my hunter last night. I had one of the pink dragonhawks and really wanted a red one, but haven’t had the time to pull together a Botanica run for my hunter. And the tame was totally easy. Just sneak up to the flightmaster, throw down an ice trap, and then target a dragonhawk and tame. None of the NPCs or other dragonhawks aggro’d me.

What was even funnier, there were a bunch of lowbie Blood Elves running around in Tranquillen who watched me do it. Too bad of the communication barrier between the factions, although I imagine what they said translated to something like, “WTF is going on?! She jacked our mount!”

This was a totally fun, easy, and sneaky tame. This is also the second time I’ve sneaked down to the Blood Elf starter area with my dranei hunter…the first time was when she was a naked level 11…she had to have one of those red Springpaw Lynx cubs. XD

gah, this is grimtotem spirit-guide all over again, but requiring less skill or gear

  19. Elsi - July 27th, 2008 @ 10:16 am EDT

I just did this on my Draenei hunter and I <3 her. At least I don’t have to wait til Botanica to get a pretty pink one :D

  20. Amewen - August 13th, 2008 @ 9:21 am EDT

I tamed one of these a few weeks ago, stabled her over the weekend to do BG’s with a guildie, and last night when I went to take her out to get her to 68, she wouldn’t come out?

Anyone else having this same problem?
