Name That Pet: Casdia’s White Wind Serpent

Final Name: Cirrus

Today’s Name That Pet request comes from Casdia, a dwarf hunter from Stonemaul with a new and very special wind serpent pet.

Casdia and Hayoc

My hunter Casdia is an ambitious dwarf on the Stonemaul realm. She has a love of all things rare and beautiful. Having recently released her faithful boar Giblet back into the wilds to roam, and finished training her beautiful, yet fierce red lynx to be a merciless fighter, she was looking for another beast to raise in her spare time. After some searching, she found herself in the wild land of Feralas, slaying the gentle sprite dragons in search of a phantom, the great Arash-ethis. However, after hours of looking, with the beast still eluded her grasp; she felt an inkling from afar. Another creature was calling her name. This creature, though just as rare, was younger, and more eager to join her.

She arrived in the dark and damp of Duskwallow Marsh, following the beast’s call, and there amongst the murk saw the shining white scales of Hayoc. At once she knew this young serpent would be her new companion. She whispered to the beast, luring him to her side, tempting him with a piece of fish, and at last, he was hers. She took him at once to foreign lands, teaching him new skills and building his strength, but could not think of what to call such a magnificent creature.

I’m on a PVP realm and am a marksman hunter and, as stated, I love rare and beautiful things. My current pets are Wuff the Grimtotem Spirit Guide, Zukauri the Springpaw Stalker, and my new windserpent. I don’t actively roleplay, but I do have a backstory behind my characters that I keep track of. I have a mixture of serious and goofy names for my pets: my previous pets were Azrael the Ghost Saber, Squiggle the serpent, Cake the crab, Zunna the wolf, and Zukauni the teal tiger (Rak’shiri) to give an idea of how I name my pets. I think I’d like a more serious name for this pet, but am open to goofier suggestions as well.

I’ve always loved Hayoc — probably in part because he’s always been a problem for me to find. But I’m sure we can find the perfect name for Casdia’s new pet.

Pretty color, /cheer for not getting an outlands thunderserpent.
    I would suggest…

    Asheia
    Shaara
something with “sh” as it sounds, I dunno, windy and smooth.
    or,

    Wintergale
    Winterstorm

    Good hunting

Silverwing? - I’m a fan of the combo names… Alternatively, some kind of snake or dragon mythological name? I’m drawing a blank tho.

I do find the windserpents remind me of Hiss from Robin Hood (ok they’ve wings, but you know what I mean), so that could be a goofy name. Unless people don’t make the connection, in which case: /yawn

    Man, I suck at this!

    Zassaliss

That is a very beautiful serpent there, Casdia. Here are some names I thought of to play on her white color, and her personality I can see in her.

    Whisper
    SnowWhite
    Aerie
    Shyera
    Isis
    Ivory
Gwyn (welsh for white, fair or blessed)
    Luna (means moon in latin)
Eirwen (means white snow in Welsh)

That’s all I can think of for now, Hope that helps!!!

  6. Casdia - July 11th, 2008 @ 10:33 pm EDT

so far I like Shaara and whisper from yall. I was also thinking about Frostwhisper or frostwing. I’m still thinking though.

  7. cloudmonkey - July 11th, 2008 @ 11:13 pm EDT

Cirrus - after those white, wispy, high altitude clouds. The word has lots of snaky sibilants too.

  8. Cryptography - July 12th, 2008 @ 2:17 am EDT

    I quite like Cirrus above.

From Mythology, Aztec god Quetzalcoatl and many other names in that pantheon.

  9. herne flyingfox - July 12th, 2008 @ 7:06 am EDT

    Medusa/Gorgon (though, I think they are better suited to serpents);
    Quetzalcoatl (not sure if it fits);
    Wyvern (English origin)
    Zomok (hungarian winged serpent-dragon);
    Lindworm (scandanavian);Mireu (Korean Sky Dragon)
    Smok (slavic dragon)

  10. Niabi - July 12th, 2008 @ 10:44 am EDT

    Zahara, Pearl, Isibis, or Evrae

  11. Mace - July 12th, 2008 @ 11:11 am EDT

You could name him Goa’uld ( from Stargate SG1) or Apep, a giant snake who fought the egiptean sun god ( can’t remember his name at the moment)

I think you might just have a good name hidden in your description:”She found herself in the wild land of Feralas, slaying the gentle sprite dragons in search of a ‘phantom’” I think Phantom would be a lovely and chilling name for your serpent! If that doesn’t seem to fit with you, here’s a couple more names:

•Tatsu – The Japanese word for dragon
•Apsu – A male water dragon in myth, mate of Tiamat
    •Typhon – A dragon from Greek myth
    •Ryo - Dragon
•Tiamat – A female dragon-like creature in myth, said to be the mother of things such as dragons, sphinxes, storms, scorpians, ect. The mate of Apsu
•Galeru – A rainbow serpent in Australian myth (Goes well with Kalseru)
•Kalseru – A rainbow serpent goddess from aboriginal myth
•Tanis/Tanit/Tanith – Means “Lady of the Serpents” or “Serpent Lady”

I also like the name Ghostwind, whatta yall think?

Other than that, my possible list is:

    Cirrus
    Shaara
    Frostwing
    Frostwhisper
    Frostwind
    Zassali

  14. Kelaria - July 12th, 2008 @ 3:11 pm EDT

I tamed Arash-ethis and named him Shirohana. It means white flower in Japanese. I’m very happy with the name, and even though I decided it’s a boy, he said I call him hana (flower) if I want to. ^_^

    It’s a very good name!

  15. Emowin - July 12th, 2008 @ 3:24 pm EDT

    Stryke, Slyph,

I have a sperpent named slyph i think it fits the snaketype pets

  16. Liax - July 12th, 2008 @ 3:43 pm EDT

Tamed me the same flying snake a while ago, and only 1 name made sense to me.

ZEUS the god of all gods, throwing his bolts of lightning at all those small pesky mobs on earth.

  17. Kurdor - July 12th, 2008 @ 8:12 pm EDT

I had one of these back in the day. Named him “Voldemort”, unoriginally.

Usually I go straight for the mythological names, but I really can’t think of that many for snakes.
“Cecrops” is the only one that comes to mind, the name of the mythical first king of Athens, who had snake legs.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cecrops_I

There’s also “Typhon”, I suppose, the super-powerful beast that fought the Greek gods and was eventually defeated by Zeus.

  18. Hypnotic - July 12th, 2008 @ 11:36 pm EDT

I had one too, named it Momo. Buuut I don’t think that will fit here, so I suggest: Kota, Auron, Remus, and Snowblind.

  19. Julie - July 13th, 2008 @ 3:28 am EDT

I totally second Cirrus, that’s so pretty!!!

  20. Ghostlyarrow - July 13th, 2008 @ 11:55 am EDT

If you want something snake-like, go for Slssessems. That’s a name I found in a science fiction book.
Or you could name him “Ancestor” or “Spirit” because it’s ghostly.
    Or “Illusion” or “Mirage”?

  21. Foresti - July 13th, 2008 @ 4:05 pm EDT

I have Hayoc as well, named him Seraph, after the race of angels, Seraphim. Who’s name literally means Flying flaming serpent. Thought it fit fairly well.

  22. Kai - July 13th, 2008 @ 5:21 pm EDT

    I love the white wind serpant :3 Mines named Raijin, means god of lightning :P I found it fitting for my girl. ^^;

  23. Fearmdemon - July 13th, 2008 @ 10:29 pm EDT

    Azzere(always DID like that name)
    stay with Hayoc?

  24. Thrrax - July 15th, 2008 @ 7:54 am EDT

Since all windserpents look like Quetzalcoatl, the mythic aztec god, why not name it so? :D

  25. samuel - July 16th, 2008 @ 1:22 pm EDT

Hmmm im not too shure lets see what names i like

    Azzera
    kalezza

and thats all i have of idea’s hope it help’s

  26. fatman - July 18th, 2008 @ 1:20 am EDT

I think Cirrus might be more suited, since it’s not too serious but not too goofy (a little on the serious side). Seraph/Seraphim/Serafini(?) are also nice.

    Or you could try:

    Cloud
    Fluffy (as a cloud)
Opal or Pearl (both are white gems, of which Dwarves are fond.)
Barleybeer or Honeymead or Whiskeywhite or Vodkawhite or Coors or Bud ……. :)

  27. LIndalas - July 19th, 2008 @ 12:12 am EDT

I named mine Bailong (the white dragon king in chinese mythology). I simply couldn’t find a more appropriate name :-) That said I like Cirrus and Phantom a lot.
