Name That Pet: Yossir’s Bat

Yossir and BatYossir is a frequent commenter here, so I look forward to seeing what you guys come up with as a name for his new bat.

Yossir writes:

Hi, I’m Yossir. I’m a Tauren hunter from the server Staghelm. A brief summary about me is that I love doing PvP, I don’t RP but I’ve got lore behind my character anyway, I take a lot of pride in being a survival hunter, and I don’t raid or run instances.

Currently, I have two pets. The first one is a yellow-orange raptor named Torc. He came from Durator and I’ve had him ever since lvl 11. The other one is a ravager I named Ravioli. I picked him up back when I was lvl 23 after a two hour trek to Bloodmyst Isle. I could never give either one of them up, but as great as both my pets are, I’ve been wanting another one.

I did have a Winterspring Frostsaber, but he just didn’t appeal to me so I gave him up after owning him for about a week. Plus his yawning got on my nerves. So, when I reached 70 a few weeks ago, I started looking at some of the possible choices around me. After first I wanted a warp stalker but they don’t have the highest DPS and while warp is a great skill, I prefer dash in PvP. I remembered the purple striders in Terokkar but seeing as they have a lack of skills I decided against it. I would have gotten a blue dragonhawk from the Sunwell; however, they aren’t tamable.

Just when I thought I was out of options, I decided on a bat. The ones inside Kara seemed perfect but I’m not keyed for the place. So I settled on the next best thing: a ZG bat. With the help of a guildie, I got my new friend. I’ve currently taken up the task of leveling it while also building Sporeggar rep.

The only problem is I can’t seem to find a name for my bat like I did with my other guys. (I had their names pre-selected anyway.) Vampiric names aren’t something I would choose since WoW bats eat fruit/fungus. I prefer to think of my bat as a girl but male name as fine too. Any name that is sinister, dark, or just plan evil I will thankfully consider.

We’ll see what we can do!

I know it’s a ’species’ of birds in wow, but the name Gutripper just came to mind - it’s perfect for pvp :oD I know I wouldn’t be too happy having a flapping bat named Gutripper in my face draining my health while I’m trying to find the hunter that sent it… ;o)

You don’t need to be keyed for Kara any more and the bats there are awesome! The links on Petopia have guides (Thottbot maybe?) for getting the bat solo (involving a minor invisibility potion and a timely FD)

    I named mine Belfry :)

  7. Styfios - July 9th, 2008 @ 6:34 pm EDT

Well, Mors could work, which means death in latin if I remember correctly. Of course, you could go with Dracula, or another vampire name.

Count. Best Sesame Street character. Seriously.

    Aaaaanyways…
Diablo, Mephisto or Baal from the Diablo series. Or pretty much any demon from that series (Butcher, Duriel, Andariel, Tyreal (actually angel, but still sound cool)).

Nacht (German for night, not sure on spelling)
    Yoru (Japanese for night)
    Tsuki (Japanese for moon)
    Warui (Japanese for evil)

I think if you are look for an evilish name for your pet bat you should name it something like…

    Drake
    OR…
    Vlad (the impaler) :P

Can’t think of any other ones sorry!! Hope that helps!

Yet, theres 2 warriors. To be honest I dont get it. 3 series, each one with 3 figures. It would be enough to cover all classes, but they just repeat the ones they have. :(

  15. Elsi - July 10th, 2008 @ 10:26 am EDT

Pain (it’s also French for Bread and that’s what your bat eats :P)

    I also second Nosferatu

The problem I see with Kara bats is they can’t use the ran animation very well… FLAPFLAPFLAP…

    I suggest…

    Mars (roman god of war)
    Blackheart

    Sorry… Cant think of any..
I have a white bat, I was thinking about nameing her something evil but… I settled with “Lillian” or “Lily” for short.

  17. Bobo & SgtPork - July 10th, 2008 @ 12:21 pm EDT

“Elvira” is more campy than scary . . .
    “Ivy,” something of a play off “I. V.” . . .
Think of the most evil woman you know, even if she’s not famous. Like an old teacher you hated or something (or one you had a crush on?). Then I’d name mine, “Laura.” On second thought, don’t do that, you’ll end up hating your pet!
“Yvonne,” after Yvonne Craig, who played Batgirl in the original TV show.
Well, there’s a few, more later if I think of any. Good luck!

  18. Tahlian - July 10th, 2008 @ 12:30 pm EDT

How about “Laveau,” for Marie Laveau, the Voodoo Queen?

  19. Hans - July 10th, 2008 @ 1:08 pm EDT

the fun thing i like too think about when thinking about bats, are that they are nearly blind, and rely almost completely on there Radar…using Ping, and soundwaves

    so
    maybe
    Soundwaves
    Ping
    Radar
    Blip
Oh and keep in mind bats mostly eat bugs ^_^

  20. Ujarak - July 10th, 2008 @ 4:09 pm EDT

Evil huh, that shouldn’t be hard, I like to go with simple adjectives for most of my pet names, or you could go with common names that sound evil. Here’s my suggestions:

Banshee (banshee’s are terribly evil, plus it plays on the sonar thing)
    Silence
    Whisper
Lillith or Morrigan (both succubi from Darkstalkers)
    Ghost or Wraith
    Medusa

  21. Stephf - July 10th, 2008 @ 6:22 pm EDT

    Alucard, Backwards for ‘Dracula’
Bloodbat.. I just randomly started to sing the Batman Theme Song…How has it come to this?
Darkfang? It seems to appeal well with Bats

  22. Yossir (w/ Torc & Ravioli) - July 10th, 2008 @ 6:52 pm EDT

Yay! Its finally up on the website! I wasn’t sure if Mania had gotten it or not.

So far, I’m liking Whisper and Tyreal. Ping has to be my favorite suggestion but I think I’ll wait a little longer before deciding on a name. Something even cooler might come up ^_^

  23. Mania - July 10th, 2008 @ 7:55 pm EDT

Yossir, you might want to check your e-mail filters. I’ve responded to you several times but you never write back …

  24. Marathonian - July 10th, 2008 @ 11:21 pm EDT

Blair as in Linda Blair from the Exorcist or Ishar the Hittite word for blood.
Ishara was the goddess of the oath of the Hittites.

  25. Abban - July 11th, 2008 @ 2:05 am EDT

    Bela, like Bela Lugosi :)

  26. fatman - July 11th, 2008 @ 4:05 am EDT

Try Red Baron, might be suitable for a flying red creature. :-)

  27. Maree - July 11th, 2008 @ 1:17 pm EDT

Name him after the Seven Deadly Sins!
    I know the sins names in english, danish and latin;
    Lust/Luxuria/Begær
    Wrath/Ira/Vrede
    Gluttony/Gula/Frådseri
    Greed/Avaritia/Grådighed
    Envy/Invidia/Misundelse
    Sloth/Acedia/Dovenskab
    Pride/Superbia/Forfængelighed

    :3

  28. Nanase - July 11th, 2008 @ 1:53 pm EDT

I managed to find just a few names that sounded nice…

Tenma is japanese for ‘evil spirit’
    Malum is latin for ‘misfortune’
and since you think of it as a female, Yasha (meaning ‘female demon’) is a nice name for it…

  29. Wolfington - July 11th, 2008 @ 6:37 pm EDT

    How ’bout just “Fell”?
    Or,
    Fellwing
    Fellshadow
    Fellheart

  30. fatman - July 12th, 2008 @ 2:58 am EDT

Elvira could be a good one i had a bat and alot reccomended that and i took it as her name :P

  32. Ghostlyarrow - July 31st, 2008 @ 3:24 pm EDT

The Silverwing series offers several nice names for a dark creepy bat.

Goth and Throbb: two enormous bats.
Spectrum. Vampirum Spectrum is the name of the “breed” Goth and Throbb belong to but the full won’t fit and you don’t want Vampire related things anyways.
Kama Zotz or simply Zotz, an evil bat god.

This is on the “evil” side. On the “good” side, consider:

Shade: as the hero of the story.
Nocturna if you go for female. Goddess of the night.

  33. Cynere - October 18th, 2008 @ 5:35 pm EDT

Well, since bats can eat meat now (in the real world, some bats eat mice, and are even cannibals!) You shoulden’t have as much trouble feeding it! Anyways…

Abigar = A demon in hell that can tell the future and is a military advisor.

Abaddon = Destroyer, advisor, said to be cheif of demons, also called angel of destruction.

Abatu = Earth bound form of demonic/nagative energy

Adramalech = Devil, commander of hell, chancellor of infernal regions. In Assria where it was worshipped children were burned at his altars (hows that for evil?)

Ahahu = Seizer demon of the night

    Agramon = Demon of fear

Alastor = Cruel demon called ”The Executioner”

Andras = God of quarrels, grand marquis of Hell
