Name That Pet: Equinox’s Spider

Equinox and SpiderFinal Name: Skitters

Equinox, a young Draenei hunter from the realm of Barthilas, is looking for help naming her pet spider.

Equinox writes:

I have stumbled onto a naming block for my little friend. Here is the story of how I met my hunting partner.

It was a warm day on Bloodmyst Isle when I was commissioned to go and hunt down some aggressive spiders who had attacked and killed some researchers in the area of Amberweb pass. I wasn’t feeling up to it since I was made to give up my last pet, a Nightsaber by the name of KittyKat, but my druid friend convinced me and off we went.

We eventually got to the pass and cleared it of spiders in a flash. On the way home however one of the spiders wouldn’t leave me alone. She just kept following me. Frustrated I turned and was about to slay her when my druid friend said, “I think she likes you.”

So in the end I tamed her. At first I wasn’t keen on her, being an arachnophobic person, but she tries hard and now has a place in my heart although she is a screamer.

A screamer indeed! (The spiders of Bloodmyst are well known for their raucous cries when they attack.) So what names might fit this loud little spider?

    Perhaps something like…

    Creeper(s)
    Spindle
    IluvU
    Stalker

  2. Jezpalimu - July 4th, 2008 @ 2:22 pm EDT

    How about Equinoxious?

    :)

  3. Fearmdemon - July 4th, 2008 @ 2:22 pm EDT

Dustin? (Screech from “Saved By The Bell”)
    Pincushion
    Neon (colors on their butt)
Spinnenbiss (means “spider bite” in German, if im correct)

A lot of players are arachnophobic, try and take advantage of this and choose a scary name, or one that accentuates what’s scary about the spider.

“Hiss”, for example, because of that horrible, god-foresaken hiss those spiders make.
Or, I don’t know, something like “Fleshripper”. Because when a giant, angry black screaming hissing spider comes at us, the last thing we want is visceral imagery.

  5. cloudmonkey - July 4th, 2008 @ 3:48 pm EDT

    Skitter (for her spidery movement)

  6. Deidare - July 4th, 2008 @ 3:52 pm EDT

Well i would go with somthing that sounds timid so when they walk up to it there like- “Ah look at the little spider” then you pull out the big guns making it attack like crazy freaking the heck out’a them. So the names i got would be, Tsunade, Sakura, Hinata, Ino, Shinzu, Kurena,or Rukia.

When in doubt, I name my pet after the place I tamed it. In this case, Bloodmyst — or more-specifically, Amberweb.

  10. Ronorin - July 4th, 2008 @ 5:19 pm EDT

I second Screamer! It actually seems like a perfect name to me.

  11. Fearmdemon - July 4th, 2008 @ 5:28 pm EDT

    Maybe Banshee?

  14. Arzon - July 4th, 2008 @ 6:51 pm EDT

How about Shriek? perfect for the spider that actually does that.

  15. Niabi - July 4th, 2008 @ 7:04 pm EDT

Cavatica: This was Charlotte’s last name, Charlotte A. Cavatica, in the book “Charlotte’s Web” by E.B. White. A variant spelling for the species name of the Barn Spider, but otherwise just looks cool and sounds pretty. The name Charlotte could work too :-)

  16. Yossir (w/ Torc & Ravioli) - July 4th, 2008 @ 7:42 pm EDT

    Banshee
    Barbwire
    ChainLink
    Scurry
    Bloodfang

  17. Featherskiss - July 4th, 2008 @ 9:14 pm EDT

I love the name Cavatica, And who doesnt love sweet ol Charlotte? Since it did take your little Arach some time to win your heart as did it take some time for Charlotte to convince the town of Wilber’s importance. I think it fits amazingly well. Goodluck!

  18. Leviath - July 4th, 2008 @ 10:44 pm EDT

    “Anxious”

  19. Wolfington - July 4th, 2008 @ 11:42 pm EDT

    Solstice, matches Equinox kinda…

    Summer
    Winter
    Bloodlegs
    Blood
    Acidox

Nice spider, keep him til’ 70 and you’ll have a really rare pet that will get LOTS of stares! (and screams ^.~)

  20. Seveil - July 5th, 2008 @ 12:18 am EDT

    A fellow Barthilas-ian!

I’d recommend “Shrike”. Used to have a scorpid by that name, before the poison nerf.

  21. Tvae - July 5th, 2008 @ 12:30 am EDT

    Ihatespiders

Coming from one arachnophobic person to another. (Sorry, that’s all I could come up with… I don’t like spiders… >.<)

  22. bakedleech6 - July 5th, 2008 @ 12:30 am EDT

My spider with that skin was named Änka, which is Swedish for “widow”. :)

  23. Stephf - July 5th, 2008 @ 12:37 am EDT

Bloodfang? Ive always liked that name for some reason…

    Your spider is so CUTE!!!

  24. fatman - July 5th, 2008 @ 1:25 am EDT

    Try:

    1> Phobia
    2> Dread or DreadClaw

  25. Renkastu - July 5th, 2008 @ 1:47 am EDT

    Supaida(japanese for spider)
    and i second bloodfang

  26. Killfrenzy - July 5th, 2008 @ 2:21 am EDT

    Equinoxious = Imba

  27. Korrupted - July 5th, 2008 @ 3:07 am EDT

I think Charlotte is cute. It’s simple and everyone knows who it is..Well..People who read. =\

  28. Cobroso - July 5th, 2008 @ 5:29 am EDT

if its for pvp, my friend had the idea of “urmom” so when some1 is talking to their friends about it, they can talk about how urmom killed them… LOL, but id go with widow, cuz black and red, and its a killer right?

  29. Marusca - July 5th, 2008 @ 6:10 am EDT

you should name it widowmaker if its for pvp. for pve i also think charlotte would be great =)

  30. Brian - July 5th, 2008 @ 8:53 am EDT

You should totally name it artemis after the greek god the mistress of the hunt and the moon because the spider hunted you down and it seems shadowy

  31. Eidren - July 5th, 2008 @ 10:00 am EDT

I got that same spider on my blood elf hunter, and named here Iktomi after a Lakota spider/trickster god.

  32. Gothy - July 5th, 2008 @ 10:37 am EDT

    spinderella

  33. Tarjin - July 5th, 2008 @ 1:30 pm EDT

I think Equinoxious is just perfect.

    Cavatica is very pretty.

  34. Shanrei - July 5th, 2008 @ 2:12 pm EDT

    call it Piglette ? =p

  35. Poli - July 5th, 2008 @ 6:00 pm EDT

    Some suggestions:

    Balah (Darnassian for Spider)
    Shelob (LOTR reference)
    Dystra
    Zylrish

  36. Sukulatae - July 5th, 2008 @ 8:14 pm EDT

I had a spider on my young draenei for a time, named BriarRose. If you’re not familiar with the story, that’s the original Sleeping Beauty before Disney got ahold of her. Another possibility is Yochlol, which is drow for spider.

  37. Xolor - July 6th, 2008 @ 1:30 am EDT

    Wisperweb
    soundweb
    audio or spell it audayo
    aracnosonic
    blacknoise

  38. Dollar99 - July 6th, 2008 @ 8:23 pm EDT

    Fluffy!!!

I named my spider GnomeEater but since your alliance your gnome friends might not like that

  39. Jindar - July 7th, 2008 @ 2:24 am EDT

    Kumonga.

  40. Riss - July 7th, 2008 @ 7:10 am EDT

Well, she’s female. She needs an appropriate name because she’s a lady.

    Charlotte was a good suggestion.

There is also Eleanor, Beatrice, Aranaelia, and Kyatril.

  41. Messyah - July 7th, 2008 @ 9:21 am EDT

    I suggest Parker.

  42. Grymm - July 7th, 2008 @ 3:31 pm EDT

considering your name, and how much a spider is used to distract your foe i really like the name “eclipse”.

you provide your pet balance, it will provide a shelter against those who attack you.

  43. Emowin - July 7th, 2008 @ 3:42 pm EDT

I second Palla on “Banshee” I love it…..now I have to go tame a spider and name it that lol

  44. Catemores - July 8th, 2008 @ 4:23 am EDT

Why not something unusual, like: Betty, Karen, Sasha, even Leena.
No way you’d think of those names with spiders.

  45. Saed - July 8th, 2008 @ 8:26 am EDT

I once tamed a glassweb spider, and I called her ‘Lyssa’ (named after the Widow of the Web’ in the sci fi / fantasy movie “Krull”

  46. Ghostlyarrow - July 8th, 2008 @ 1:40 pm EDT

    I like Shadowdweller.
And I second Anansi, it is awesome too.
I read both “American Gods” and “Anansi Boys” by Neil Gaiman by the way.

  47. Thrrax - July 8th, 2008 @ 2:10 pm EDT

Well, since it looks like a black widow, i’d say Jealousfang would suit it well. Jealous Fang is the name of a poison dagger from Anima RPG. Some “black widows” find as “excuse” for their murders, jealousy. And plus the poison, a “widow” most common weapon in the past…

  48. Ghostlyarrow - July 8th, 2008 @ 2:36 pm EDT

Oh I just thought of another name…
The Aztec god of enmity, discord, sorcery, war, darkness…
Tezcatlipoca. Also known as Smoking Mirror. Also has many other epithets of which some like Titlacauan (We are his Slaves) and Ipalnemoani (He by whom we live) are nice.
As a god of Darkness, a dark, creepy, horribly-hissing spider is conveniant.

  49. Ujarak - July 8th, 2008 @ 8:03 pm EDT

Some good suggestions here. If you’re looking to tie it to your name I second Eclipse or maybe Solstice. If you’re looking for something simpler or with less mythological meaning something like Fangs or Fearspinner or Terrorshriek.

  50. herne flyingfox - July 9th, 2008 @ 12:35 am EDT

Why not name it after a spider it looks like: Red Back, Black Widow, or another species that you have a particular sentiment (given your phobia, that sentiment may be fear) about. I always liked Daddy Longlegs spiders.

You could always name it: Arachnophobia.

  51. Ghostlyarrow - July 9th, 2008 @ 3:42 pm EDT

Or, simplest thing, name her Arachnophobia.

  52. Ghostlyarrow - July 9th, 2008 @ 3:42 pm EDT

    Oops, it’s a second… didn’t notice.
