Name That Pet: Petlover’s Nether Ray

Petlover with Nether RayFinal Name: Sukiyaki

Petlover, an aptly-named level 70 Blood Elf from the Turalyon realm, is looking for help naming a nether ray. She writes:

As my name suggests I love pets of all sorts and sizes (excluding spiders, yuck). After reaching level 70, I took some serious time to consider the pets I would like to use. I typically prefer solo play, but I also do instances and am starting to get into raiding. I tamed one of the Dire Ravens in Blade’s Edge for my solo pet, and later was able to acquire a bat from karazhan for raiding and group work. But the third pet has always stumped me.

After much searching, I remembered back to a time when I had briefly tamed a nether ray when I was in the 60s. He had been a fairly reliable pet dispite being a ‘caster’ type, so I decided that’s what I wanted for my third pet. After a failed attempt to tame one within Slave Pens, I flew around Zangarmarsh and finally set my sights on “Count” Ungula, the beautiful purple, black nether ray. He was easily tamed and now ‘floats’ by my side. The only trouble now is to find the perfect name for him.

Ever since level 10, all of my pets have had a ‘food and/or drink’ theme to their names. It started with my first pet, and has stuck with me ever since. My raven is ChicknPotPie, and my bat is Bacardii. I would like for my new ray to share a similar theme. Othewise, I like names with meanings behind them…especially Japanese names. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Mmm … ChicknPotPie and Bacardii …. Shoot, now I’m hungry!

Despite it’s a caster pet … that’s really a big disadvantage (compared to the stats of a “non-caster” pet). Until you tame the only non-Caster one in the slave pens, it make no sense to take a nether ray (it’s just a cosmetic pet otherwise).

Nether rays have always reminded me of flying lamprey eels, so how about:

    - Unagi (freshwater eels, Japanese name)
    - Anago (saltwater eels, Japanese name)
    - Unadon or Unajuu (food made from eels, Japanese names)
    - Angulas (Basque fried eel)

Well I am an Invader Zim fan. So the food related name that comes to my mind is.

( Count ) Cocofang , Keep the Count or not.

  23. Petlover - July 1st, 2008 @ 2:02 pm EDT

I used to have a purple tallstrider named GrapeSoda, and I don’t like to repeat.

@Peter Smith…I already tried to go to Slave Pens to get one, but the group didn’t work out. Unless I get lucky in the future, I don’t care if mine is a caster. He’s not even my main pet, so what does it matter? I had a guild mate tell me he likes the caster types (refering to a wind stalker).

Thanks for all the comments and opinions. I believe I will use the name Sukiyaki. Maybe I’ll actually get a GOOD team for a heroic and get a non-caster, but I just love the purple rays. And he’s done fine helping me with dailies in Quel’Danis, so we’ll just see.
