PTR 2.4.3: Premades & In-Game Codes
This edition of the WoW Public Test Realm has some interesting differences from most PTR sessions. If you keep up with PTR news like I do, you’ve undoubtedly run across these notes already. But even if you’re not a PTR junkie you may want to check this one out.
Premade Level 70 Characters:
Hortus says: “Yes we plan on having premades for this test phase. No I do not know when they will be available.” Premade characters are always popular because they let you check out different classes, specs, and equipment at level 70 without having to have leveled the character up yourself.
In-Game Code Testing
Zarhym says: “During the patch 2.4.3 testing process, we’d like to provide players with the unique opportunity to acquire a few rare promotional items!” And he goes on from there — check the link for exact details.
Basically, any player on the PTR can go to Landro Longshot in Booty Bay and use a fake code to get one of the in-game rewards that will be part of the next WoW TCG expansion, The Hunt for Illidan. These rewards include a glowy green footsteps effect for your character, a disco party in a box, and your own personal ethereal vendor ‘pet’. The last is especially interesting and I look forward to learning more about it.
By the way, it’s important to understand that you don’t get to keep these items — they are just for this session of the Public Test Realm!
(On a personal note: I had a rough time getting home last night and a rough time getting back into my normal life this morning; otherwise I’d have more info on this PTR for you — like confirmation of the Growl changes. But I’ll get there! Sooner or later … )

Oooh, I like to keep up to date on PTR news but I have to admit I didn’t know about these snippets! I’m excited to try out some of the promotional items I’d probably never get to use myself otherwise.
Take your time, Mania. You do a great job bringing us Hunter fanatics the latest news. :)
I’ve messed around with the Ethereal Vendor Pet, and have to say it’s probably the coolest damn non-combat pet out there.
The thing works as such – it won’t buy items, and it doesn’t sell things for money. As it’s called an “Ethereal Soul Trader” or something, it trades for souls. If you have it out while you kill things – anything that’d grant experience (or, presumably, honor; I assume it functions the way a warlock’s soulshards do) – it syphons its soul and gives you a token as “your cut”. You can then trade these tokens for items, such as some sort of mutagen that works on non-combat pets, a potion that detects invisibility, an alcoholic beverage that has “strange effects”, and a full set of ethereal wraps that your character can wear, which mostly look kind of sucky because your character is composed of flesh, as opposed to swirling pink energy. It basically looks like a half-assed mummy suit with shoulders and a belt. :p
Still, it is pretty awesome to have an ethereal follow you around, sucking the souls of those that you kill.
Unfortunately, the ethereal vendor is the extremely rare loot card in the current batch (like the ghost tiger mount or X52 rocket), meaning it’s unlikely that most people will ever even see one.
Well my question is when will we be able to access the Test realm?
Diedare: I was able to log into the PTR today with no problem.
