Name That Pet: A Couple’s Cats

Final Names: Shy and Mute

Today we have not one but two cats that need names; and not only a couple of cats, but cats that belong to a couple.

Congafury writes:

I’ve recently commited a crime - I talked my man into playing WOW. To my surprise he made a hunter and now we’re both in big trouble: neither he, nor I can think of any good names for our brand new cats. So, there you go - 2 hunters in one mail!

Congafury with CatMy name is Congafury and I recently decided that I should after all have something more solid for a pet then a ghost saber or a ghost wolf. The wolf is to stay with me and the cat ghost was forced into a strong body of Shy-Rotam. Now this cat needs a name that would suit my own.

Disconcept with CatMy man is Disconcept and I have not a slightest idea of what a name he might want for his Springpaw Stalker, but one thing is sure - the haircuts of his char and his cat suit perfectly well!

PS: Maybe it could be a pair of names?

I love the notion that Congafury’s ghost saber found a home in the body of Shy-Rotam. And I am frankly envious that these two are playing hunters together — my own spouse won’t play WoW unless I threaten him, and even then it’s on a druid. Ah, well.

So what name suggestions do we have for these two?

Jade and Ruby? (The colors, children! The colors!)
Bongo and Maraca? (To both fit Congafury and the pair concept)

  2. Cobroso - June 13th, 2008 @ 7:39 pm EDT

bluey and reddy? LOL, sorry, bored, how about IceTail, for Shy, and FireTail for the stalker, or fire ice anything, either works

  3. Yossir (w/ Torc and Ravioli) - June 13th, 2008 @ 9:05 pm EDT

Ruby and Sapphire (after the games) or Spitfire and Frostbite.

  4. Hypnotic - June 13th, 2008 @ 10:15 pm EDT

    Beauty and Beast?
    Xyla and Xero?
I like just Blue and Red. o.o
But why not Frostbite and Sunburn?

    Sapphire and Padparadsha

Padparadsha is another gemstone in the same family with sapphire and ruby but it combines red, orange, and pink together.

  8. Laffacadio - June 14th, 2008 @ 3:25 am EDT

My wife and I both play together but never the same class at the same time. We are movie buffs so maybe you could go with some type of reference there. Example: Bo Luke, Harold Maude, Butch Sundance, Murtaugh Riggs, Benny June etc. If your interested in keeping it a bit of a mystery you could break down a single name into two names. That way when you play together your pets will be instantly recognized as a paired group. Example: Luna Tic, Rip Saw, Asy Lum, Riga Mortis etc. Of course these are just examples. If one strikes your fancy please use it but if not maybe it can give you some new ideas for naming pairs. Hope this helps and happy hunting!

How about “Koori” for the frostsaber, and “Kaji” for the lynx, they’re japanese names, “Koori” means Ice, and means “Kaji” fire

  10. Gararandiose - June 14th, 2008 @ 7:37 am EDT

well, wouldent it be perfect with “Sun and Moon”? and just to make it intresting, in some ancient or forren language?

Sun: ALVIS (Norse Mythology) CYRUS (English, Biblical) DINESH (Indian) ATON (Egyptian Mythology)
Moon: CHANDRA (Indian, Hindu Mythology) CYNTHIA (English, Greek Mythology (Latinized)) DEIMOS (Greek Mythology ) DIANA (English, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, German, Romanian, Russian, Lithuanian, Roman Mythology )

I agree with Mania, I love the backstory of your ghost saber occupying the body of Shyrotam. What was your ghost saber’s name? Maybe keep that name, or add “II” at the end? Or, for something to go with your name, how about “Offbeat”?

Now, for Disconcept’s kitty, what about “Dateory”? Or maybe just “Hairball” :)

  12. Kahlua - June 14th, 2008 @ 8:43 am EDT

    Come classical couple names:

    Bonnie and Clyde :)

    Sonny and Cher :)

    Pepzi and Coke

    Rum and Coke

Romeo and Juliet (or the karazhan version of the names Romelo and Julianne)

    Ben and Jerry

    Lucy and Ethel

    Gomez and Mortica

  13. Kamalia - June 14th, 2008 @ 10:14 am EDT

For Disconcept - A couple names that would suit your cat’s beautiful fur colour, and a couple other names that might appeal to you:

    •Adoni – Means sunset
    •Sol/Solis – The sun (Latin)
•Shakuru – A sun god from Pawnee myth
•Irusan – The king of cats from Celtic myth
    •Aiden – Fiery

And for Congafury’s kitty, a couple ghostly names to suit her past self (I’m guessing your cat is female, so I put in female names):

    •Astraea – A star in Greek mythology
    •Aislinn – Vision, dream
•Kasumi – Means mist in Japanese
•Selene – A Greek goddess associated with the moon
•Enaid – Welsh for soul or life

    Aquafury and Firefury?

I dunno, they look pretty though

  15. Fearmdemon - June 15th, 2008 @ 12:17 am EDT

Jekyll for yours, Hyde for his?
    maybe Law and Order?
    or Fel and Flame?

  16. Vanyalosswen - June 15th, 2008 @ 12:32 am EDT

Their colors seem to suggest a contrasting Fire and Ice theme.

  17. Congafury - June 15th, 2008 @ 2:50 am EDT

thank you for all your suggestions! i liked Luffacadio’s idea and i loved the way Bongo and Maraca sounded( would love to know the reference if there is any), what considers the Fire+ Frost and Moon+ Sun names my man unfortunatly thinks that they are way too girlish..I’ll post again as soon as we decide which names to take=)

  18. Congafury - June 15th, 2008 @ 2:53 am EDT

Oh! i’m still too sleepy=) Bongo and Maraca are musical instruments. i feel soo smart now that i guessed!

  19. bob - June 15th, 2008 @ 7:47 am EDT

The ghostacat’s name should be ghostripper thats mine or shadowstalker (my friends.)
The lyxn’s names could be Pulverizer or King of the Beasts

  20. Tyra - June 15th, 2008 @ 8:01 am EDT

Blasphemy and Heresy, kinda suits the sin of talking your SO into WoW :P

  21. Mayura - June 15th, 2008 @ 1:48 pm EDT

What about Rosencrantz and Guildenstern? Those are the names of the two courtier-spies in Hamlet, hehe. I’ve always wanted to use the names, but I’ve had no way to do so before.

  22. Mania - June 15th, 2008 @ 2:00 pm EDT

Oooh! And that gives you the perfect opportunity, after bad fights, to mourn, “that Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are dead.”

  23. Shirubia - June 15th, 2008 @ 2:19 pm EDT

Lucy and Ricky Ricardo (I know, very old school)

    or a name in japanese?
Aoi (blue in japanese) or Mizu (water) and Akai (red) or Kaji (Fire)

or if you like Naruto, the Mangekyo Sharingan techniques? Ametarasu and Tsukuyomi (day and night, respectivly)
Similary with Bleach (Ichigo and Rukia :P )

  24. Congafury - June 15th, 2008 @ 4:22 pm EDT

oh well, now my man says he wants his cat name to be complicated and aristocratic.. men… ( excuse my spelling =)

  25. Morgrimsson - June 15th, 2008 @ 5:38 pm EDT

I can’t help but think of Norse mythology as usual here. For Shy-Rotam, the huge frostsaber queen, I think “Ymir” the first of the frost giants, and for the fiery-looking Springpaw Stalker “Surtur” lord of the fire giants would both be fitting names. Hope that helps.

  26. Featherkitty - June 15th, 2008 @ 6:06 pm EDT

How about Frostbite and Sunburn i really think thats the PERFECT name for them.

  27. Featherkitty - June 15th, 2008 @ 6:13 pm EDT

I was thinking of Law and Order maybe Moth and Loyer? LOL that just hit me

  28. Featherkitty - June 15th, 2008 @ 6:21 pm EDT

OOO OOO ME ME PICK ME ANYWAYS DO THE NAME MarchSimpson and HomerSimpson

FROM THE SIMPSONSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS that would be soooooo funny

  29. Axeminster - June 15th, 2008 @ 7:03 pm EDT

Ammit would be kind of a neat name for the Springpaw. Ammit was an Egypian demon/deity that personified divine retribution for all the wrongs committed in life. Nobody in ancient Egypt worshipped Ammit per say, but everyone was afraid of it. :-)

  30. Crimsontusk - June 16th, 2008 @ 10:10 am EDT

Complicated and Aristocratic huh… let’s see. Well cats are generaly snobby and aloof by nature, and aristocrats usually the upper class, so lets try some nobility. You could try King Lear, Machbeth, Ceasar or simply use the title: Monarch, Emperor, You could add Duke and Duchess for the pair.

You could keep it feline and use Pridelord. If I had a bit more backround on personality I cold tailor it a bit more but thats what I have on the top of my head.

  31. Messyah - June 16th, 2008 @ 11:41 am EDT

I suggest Si and Am, the names of the two siamese cats from Disney’s Lady and the Tramp - Here is their bug number in the movie:

I am so totaly in that envy boat. My hubby and I do play together on verry RARE ocasion. I wish he would give the hunter a chance and roll one, he thinks i’m a loon for being so hunter crazy. He wont get near one with a ten foot pole, Insed he ops for the soooooo origanal warrior. Hit three key at the right time bing bang boom easy to play. He fiddles with my hunter from time to time I come back my pet is unsummoned, half dead, and red from starvation. “No skill to play a hunter” Pah what a dork. So having a man who understands the hunter class your are sooo lucky girl keep ahold on him. lol

By the way I would go for “Fire” and “Ice” since you are a couple. And if you guys are into creating back storys for your toons haveing pets like that can sooo add to it.

    Good luck nameing

  33. Darc - June 17th, 2008 @ 1:00 am EDT

Mmmm well if your man is a little concerned about both of them being to “matchy matchy” A more subtle approach could be fine, but still have a little connection for the both of your.

For Disconcept I think something that matches him and his beast could be great. I was thinking something along the lines of Spite maybe? Disconcept being the feeling and Spite the consequence…

Going on the same lines, considering your name is Congo “Fury” you could link the names that way….

Wrath could be nice as it not and vengeful and Spite but not something to be reckoned with, and they still sound good together.

    Spite and Wrath : )

  34. Wolfington - June 17th, 2008 @ 1:23 pm EDT

    Hmm, Autumn and Solstice?

    Classic, “Romeo” and “Jueliet” ^^

  35. Wolfington - June 17th, 2008 @ 1:25 pm EDT

Oh, also, I play with my dad, but he won’t touch anything non-priest or non-mage. I’m sure he would love hunters too, he is always spazzing over my pets… /Sigh

    (Sorry for double-comment.)

  36. Tala - June 17th, 2008 @ 6:40 pm EDT

I suggest Jaydefyre for Shy and Fyrestone for the stalker…

  37. Selcarea - June 20th, 2008 @ 5:18 pm EDT

    Ok, how about:
    shy = julep
    springpaw = chaos

couple name - cleopatra and anthony

  38. Bokatisha - July 1st, 2008 @ 1:52 pm EDT

    Tokoro and Talia

  39. Senitel - July 6th, 2008 @ 2:37 pm EDT

  40. Wolfington - July 10th, 2008 @ 11:33 pm EDT

Ok, I just thought of some…

Shy-Rotam, as a girl, could be named “Perelandra” which is the ‘real’ name of Venus, from Perelandra the second book in The Space Trilogy (by C.S. Lewis)…

The Springpaw, as a guy(?) could be named “Malacandra”, the ‘real’ name of Mars from Out of the Silent Planet, the first book in The Space Trilogy.

    Good hunting
