Name That Pet: Harvok’s Dire Wolf

Harvok and WolfFinal Name: Cerberus

Harvok, a hunter from the realm of Mok’Nathal, is looking for a name for his pet wolf.

I need help naming my pet! He is the gray rare spawn “Old Cliff Jumper” and he has me absolutely stumped. I have had him for a while now, and remembering all the times he has saved my butt from a corpse run and a monstrously large repair bill, I figure he should at least have a name besides “Wolf”.

I have usually just left the default names of the pets I have had before, so trying to name this guy is a real challenge. I was hoping for a name from Norse or Celtic myths or words. I was thinking something along the lines of mythical creatures or characters.

I have not done any role-playing yet, but I am planning to switch to a RP server, so I have made a basic plan of what my characters personality will be like. He is quiet and mysterious, haunted by the horrors of his past (don’t know what happened, but I’m working on it). He is willing to do anything for the greater good, and will go to any lengths to achieve this goal as long as his end is justified.

You have to help me! my brain is hurting from trying to think of one on my own.

I don’t often run across Old Cliff Jumper as a pet, and I’ve only tamed him once myself. This very special pet needs a very special name! So what do you think?

  1. Freki and Geri are the pet wolves of Odin in Norse mythology. Fenris or Fenrir is a giant wolf also featured in Norse mythology.

  2. Loki maybe the norse god of michief and or evil. heh appologies if that evil part is wrong but i’m pretty sure his actions are usually evil.

  3. Do you own a dog or know someone who owns a dog with similar coloration? I just named my wolves after my boyfriend’s Akitas. It gives it sentimental value knowing that digitized replicas of those awesome puppies are watching my back.

  4. call it Gråpels(greyfur in danish)
if you want something that sounds brutish, you could go for Fenris/Fenrir as suggested before. I had a Rema-wolf once called Raijin, meaning god of thunder in japaneese. if you like it, you’re welcome to take that =P

  5. <3 that wolf… I have tried on ALL of my hunters to get him, all to no avail. /sigh
Maybe I will get lucky one of these days..

    Anyway,

    Fenris,
    Geki
    Both sound nice, or

Adoff (noble wolf from Bobo’s list)
Audolf (Wolf’s friend, norse, Bobo’s list)
Bjomolf (Bear wolf, norse, Bobo’s list)

    Others —
    Grey
    Storm(cloud)
    Fang

  6. Greek wise, there’s also Apollo, god of the sun, and I think music.
Artemis, his twin sister, goddess of moon, and hunt.
    Hades, god of the underworld.

or, wolf backwards. flow, or eninac, canine

  7. I would suggest Ranulf, which means “Shield Wolf” in Old Norse. A particularly fitting name for a pet wolf that has faithfully protected you time and time again.

  8. Here’s a couple names I thought might suit him…

Taranis – Derived from Celtic “Taran” meaning thunder
    Karalis – “King” in Latvian
Brenin – Means “King” in Celtic
Cadifor – “Battle King” in Celtic
Brennus – Latinized form of a Celtic name (or title) that possibly meant either “king, prince” or “raven”

Good luck with naming your wolf! ^_^

  9. All of these are greek =)

    Adrastos- meaning courageous
    Agathon- meaning good
    Aiolos- Nimble,quick moving.
    Alkimos- Strong
    Amyntas- defender
    Argyris or Argyros-silver
    Atreus-fearless
    Charon-fierce brightness

  10. Balto. hands down awesome. I have this wolf myself, I tried for 3 months to get him before I succeeded. Favorite worg in game <3

  11. I have a 43 hunter now logged off near where he spawns in the hinterlands, hehe.

Been maybe two days camping though. 3 months Rikaku? Props man, kudos too.

    But to name it…

I noticed your guild is , maybe name the wolf BigPig.
    Maybe something simple, like Fang?

Not much else coming to mind… my creativity is low. Require more vespene gas…

  12. I’m surprised, with all the poeple suggesting Fenris/Fenrir, that no one suggested his sons’, Hati and Skoll. Hati was the wolf who chased the Moon and Skoll chased the Sun.

  13. I’m surprised no one suggested Cerberus (or closer to the greek Kerberos), the (3 headed) dog that guarded the underworld in Greek Mythology. first thing i thought of when i saw the picture.

  14. I have a big black wolf named Fenrir, (that was formerly Rema the Den Mother) and he has many times brought the end of the world to the Clefthoof in Nagrand and to my enemies. Awh Fenrir, you big cuddly killer you /cast FeedPet

However I mention this, because I’ve seen at least 2 other Fenrirs on my server, 1 being the exact same pet! So Fenrir might be too common a choice.

    Gilgalad Sindarin: Starlight

  16. Loki maybe the norse god of michief and or evil. heh appologies if that evil part is wrong but i’m pretty sure his actions are usually evil.

Loki, like most trickster figures, is actually fairly ambiguous. A lot of folk stories of him involved him helping humankind, like bringing fire to man or saving a child being pursued by giants. Generally his “evil” actions were when he was directly opposing the Aesir–but given they weren’t paragons of goodness themselves, he often had good reasons for doing them wrong.

On another note, I like Wolfsige from the list posted above–”victorious wolf”.

  17. y not blackfang ? its black it bites so mix it up a lil dont use mythology use somthing more origonal

  18. You could try:

1> Beowulf – it’s there in the site recommended by Bobo & SgtPork.
2> Grendel – since we’re already talking about Beowulf.

Then we just hope Angelina Jolie shows up wearing high heels. :-)

  19. Here are some great name suggestions I came across from the website: http://www.behindthename.com. I took into consideration the story you provided us of you and your pet, as well as the coloration/overall look of the wolf itself. I also tried to provide names that were not previously suggested by other posters.

    1. Agros or Ageros: (Old Celtic, M.) meaning “battle” or “slaughter”.

    2. Bacchus: (Greek, M.) meaning “to shout” (think Furious Howl ability).

    3. Conall (Gaelic, M.) meaning “strong wolf”.

    4. Deimos (Greek, M.) meaning “terror”.

    5. Erebus: (Greek, M.) meaning “nether darkness”; the personification of primordial darkness (I thought of this when thinking of your wolf’s skin coloration).

    6. Nemesis (Greek, M.) meaning “retribution” and “righteous anger”; this is also the name of the Greek god for vengeance and justice.
