Name That Pet: Alana’s Ghost Saber

Today we have a request from a stealthy Night Elf with a ghost saber — and a taste for teasing his opponents.

Alana with ghostly cat.Alana writes:

Let me begin by saying that my background is that of a “PvP” server. I am a gamer at heart, and my interests include, but also extend beyond World of Warcraft. My favorite games tend to revolve around stealth. I love western RPG’s, especially those with strong social aspects, which is why WoW is such a perfect fit.

I plan to spend most of my time in small scale PvE / PvP (5 man / 5 man heroic / 10 man, arena / battleground / world PvP) and plenty of time spent soloing / raising trade skills / exploring the world around me.

I tend to favor Night Elves, mostly because of my preference for stealth and finesse over brute strength. I prefer to take a cautious / thoughtful approach to most encounters, and my choice of a Ghost Saber as my “vanity” pet follows suit.

As you can probably guess, Rogue / Druid / Hunter are my classes of choice. I’m the sort of player who is likely to sneak up on you when you’re most comfortable and /tickle, /sap, unstealth, /wave, /vanish – never really harming the person, but letting them know I’m around… it makes things a little more interesting for me knowing they’re at least aware of my presence… and while I don’t have access to the same bag of tricks on Alana that my rogue might, I think the combination of shadowmeld, prowl, and various traps will still allow for plenty of shennanigans.

I don’t think there is much in the way of true RP in my future, but at the same time, I tend to favor names which hold some sort of meaning. I suppose I’m looking for a clean, simple name. Nothing too silly or obnoxious, but still light-hearted… something that would fit in with my own unique brand of tomfoolery.

Clean, simple, light-hearted but not silly … and with a touch of tomfoolery. That’s a tall order, but we’ll see what we can do!

    Some names that might fit:
Ghostpaw, Mistwalker, and Shadowclaw to go with the stealth / Ghostsaber theme
Dog, Fish, Manbearpig, Notacat, or Snuggles for the goofy aspect

  2. Wolfington - June 4th, 2008 @ 8:17 pm UTC

Boreas — god of north wind, winter, like a cold wind blowing at your victims back..

    Silence
    Hush
Watcher — watches your victims every move…
    Whisper
    Winter
    Gale
    Breeze

I don’t know, seems like he/she should have a wind/season related name, or one about silence…

All I can think of right now!

I got a Spottet snowleopard of my own and the only logic name i could come up with was :

    Müsli

If you think of the cerial, and poor alot of milk over it, all you can see is black raisins floating in white milk.. Lots of black dots in alot of white0 Spottet snowleopards.
I made the explanation for my cats name on a macro and it always make ppl laugh.

Shadeaux (just a unique way of spelling shadow – from cajun country)

Aleshanee (from native american indian (coos tribe) – means “she plays all the time”

Angeni (cheyenne indian) – means “spirit”

Kachina (hopi indian) – “sacred spirit dancer”

Kenda (dakota indian) – “magic power”

Koko (blackfoot indian) – “of the night”

    Mosi (navajo indian) – “cat”

Namid or Namida (Chippewa Indian) – “star dancer”

    Neche (Algonquin Indian) – “friend”

Nova (Cheyenne Indian) – “chases butterflies”

Tadita (Omaha Indian) – “one who runs”

Yutu (Miwok Indian) – “out hunting”

    Zonta (Sioux Indian) – “trusted”

The reason I went with native american indian is because like the night elf you favor, the indians were of the earth and believed in its powers. Hope that helps!

I have one. I named mine ‘Akhdar’! It means green. The saber has green eyes. It just seemed like a perfect fit. The ‘kh’ is pornounced with flem in the throat. Its just better to say. Akhdar!!

  22. RabidCoqui - June 5th, 2008 @ 9:00 am UTC

As soon as I rolled a hunter I knew that I’d be getting this as one of my pets. I named mine Amaru… I remember it had a connection but for the life of me I can’t remember what it was… I think it had to do with it looking like a jaguar…

  24. Znodis - June 5th, 2008 @ 9:29 am UTC

Nova as a reference to the stealthy lead in Starcraft: Ghost. You could also do an anagram of that such as Voan or Naov.

  25. Rikaku - June 5th, 2008 @ 10:19 am UTC

“Geist” is about the only one I could come up with based on ghost saber XD

Grayswandir is Corwin’s sword, also known as the Night Blade… Grayswandir has one magical property that makes it particularly useful: Corwin can call it by creating a Shadow where he wills it to exist.

  46. Fireshade - June 8th, 2008 @ 2:40 am UTC

I named My second hunter’s Ghost saber Echo after the greek myth of Echo the nymph, who was cursed to only repeat the words of the man she loved. sadly her one true love was also cursed to fall in love with his own reflection in a still pond and he never saw her. She eventually faded awy to nothing but her voice while he to faded and was turned into a flower that grew at the edge of the pond. (( severly abreviated version of the myth)

  47. Sandfur - June 8th, 2008 @ 7:42 am UTC
