Name That Pet: Xable’s Dire Raven
Final Name: Nevermore
I’m not certain, but I think this is our first Name That Pet segment from Mexico! Xable, a raiding hunter from the Andorhal realm, is looking for the perfect name for his new Dire Raven carrion bird.
I am the proud owner of the new carrion bird in Raven’s Wood in BEM. I’ve wanted to tame one of these extremely cool looking birds since I first saw it and found out it had a diet, sadly it was untamable. Now that 2.4.2 is out this bird is tameable and the first thing I did was tame one.
I like raiding and am not a huge PvP fan but like to PvP a bit sometimes. I’m half mexican/half american but live in Mexico. I’m in a latin raiding guild, AZTECS from the Andorhal server, this may help on choosing a name. I like funny, fitting names for my pets, ex: my pet bat is Guano and pet cat is Silvestre.
So, any of you got any good names for this guy?
I’m sure we can come up with something!

Well I named mine after my 70 druid, “Dragondruid”, but my guildies think “Annoying” is more appropriate… they don’t like the screech sound effect, lol.

I like Nevermore personally, but you could name it in homage of (or in mockery of) some famous druid on your server, such as Manbearmitch (not famous, just a funny name), Nintendonick, Rekhyt, etc (all those are just some standout alliance druids on Stormscale, the last being my Alt :P)
Nevermore = way, way, WAY too cliche.
ALWAYSMOAR, now that’s a good name.
“Corax.” From the scientific name for the common raven, corvus corax. Or maybe “Edgar” - not as straightforward as naming it Nevermore, but still a nice play on Poe’s classic.
The Norse god Odin had two ravens named Hugin and Munin, “thought” and “memory” respectively, and Odin himself was sometimes glossed as the “raven-god” in poems. I named my own “Hrafn”, which is the Old English word for “raven”…yeah, I have a raven named “Raven”, no originality points. Nevertheless it beats “carrion bird”.
I’m probly gonna name mine this, but since we’re on different servers it wouldn’t matter-

Mine is Blackbird, from the Beatles song. I know, doesn’t sound very original to name a black bird Blackbird, but hey, it means something to me ;o) I was also toying with Drood and Boomkin, but I wanted a name that wasn’t just for fun.
Hugin and Munin are both favourites of mine, I’ve no idea if there are similar mythological creatures in North American lore. I do seem to recall some native american myths about birds (sorry for being so vague) but I can’t remember any Mexican myths that fit the bill…
If you have a cat named “Silvestre”, the bird has to be named “Tweety”. :)
How about “Piolín”? That’s Tweety’s name in the Spanish translation.

Nevermore is obvious, but good. However I prefer ‘Quoth’
When naming mine though, I looked to The Crow (movie) for inspiration. The bird that appears in that film was called Magic. My Hunter being a Troll, I went with a magic theme, but more Troll appropriate.
So my Raven is named Voodoo.

Might as well call it “Anzu” since thats the Raven God in WoW.
I actually named mine DruidSlave. I was going to name it EnslavedDruid, but it was just a little too long. I get great reactions on that one. :D
If you want to name it after druids, you could always name it Alamo. BURD DURID IS 4 FITE! … no, wait.
Personally I would go with “Resto”, but that might be just me :P

After looking at these I liked Nevermore, I could name it Tweety or Piolin but na got Silvestre arlead plus Tweety is yellow this guy is black. Munin “memory” is also good. KEEP EM COMING, ill decide later.

I named mine Reaper, as in the grim reaper You could allso mane him Grim for the more funny name, kinda like Grim from the billy and Many cartoon, dont know if you get that one in Mexico or not.

As a fellow Mexican (Greetings!) I would think Carroñero (Carrion) would best suit it, since its a carrion bird, you could also name it Cenzontle ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ Mimus_polyglottos only bird I know that doesnt fears cats!)
I felt the same way when I first found these beautiful birds. I was so happy to get to tame one. My hunter has this wierd thing about naming my pets after food. (Started with her first pet, the Pink Tallstrider, PinkLemonade.)
Hence my new raven: ChicknPotPie
P.S. I also have a white cat, Milkshake (that I’m not sure about keeping), and a green Warp Stalker named Watermelon.

maybe “Skava”, its a name of a hawk but it could work for a crow/raven, I name all my birds Skava, or maybe you could name it BloodTalon, i sometimes name pets by taking a body part of theirs, then putting in something that would be a good word because birds use their Talons to attack so it fits, i guess.
Frankly, I like Rook or Rhuk, after the ravenesque mythological creature from Arabia. It was incredibly large, able to lift elephants and boulders with ease.
Mine is named Gudmundur, after a person I know.

I tamed one and names it Nevermore for the heck of it day the patch came out. I might release it in WOTLK if the pets there are really cool. Right now i have a lv 70 Ravanger loyalty lv 6 and a dire raven loyalty level 6
