Name That Pet: Rassaa’s Green Raptor

Rasaa's green raptor surveys the carnageFinal Name: Jadeheart

Rassaa, a dwarf hunter from my old stomping grounds of Cenarion Circle, wrote in to ask for some help naming her new green raptor.

I recently got on my Dwarf Hunter, Rassaa, who just got a new pet. I have always wanted an Azeroth raptor on one of my pets, so I got a pretty Green Raptor from Wetlands. Here is the story of how I got him/her…

Rassaa is an adventurous but sensible lass who tends to keep to herself. She was bored of Ashenvale and didn’t know where to go other than there, so she jumped on a random boat in Darkshore to see where it lead. It took a long journey across the Great Sea and ended up in Wetlands, where Rassaa got off and started to look around. Most things where far to easy to hunt and soon she was beginning to think about going back to Ashenvale when a Human ran by.

“Is there anything worth hunting in this swamp?” Rassaa asked.

“Sure, go out to Whelgar’s Excavation Site, kill some of those nasty raptors!” Now, this sounded like a challenge to Rassaa, so without hesitation she ran out to the Excavation site and looked for raptors. To her dismay, there seemed to be none! She was about to leave when she heard a frightened raptor’s screech. She spun around but couldn’t see anything, but then another screech sent her running towards a very large boulder. She peeked behind it to see, lo and behold… Six blue and pink raptors surrounding a small, jewelry-less GREEN raptor!

Rassaa had never heard of green raptors before, and could tell that neither had the attacking raptors. They snapped at the green raptor like it was a crocolisk trying to eat there eggs! Obviously, Rassaa was appalled. Drawing her gun, she took very careful aim before shooting one of the raptors. It was a noisy death, but for some reason the remaining raptors only glanced at the dead body before turning back to the poor green raptor and attacking again.

Enraged, and that is a very rare emotion for Rassaa to have, she shot at two more raptors. The three living raptors turned away from the screeching green raptor and fixed their gazes on Rassaa. With the thrill of a dangerous hunt pumping through her vanes, Rassaa laid down a trap and shot again at the approaching raptors. One fell — the remaining two sped up, jumping up in to the air to attack. She backed up and shot one raptor in the heart. The other raptor was far too close to shoot!

Her mind buzzing, Rassaa attempted to flee when suddenly the beast was pulled from the air, mid jump. Rassaa scrambled away to see the green raptor, eyes squinting in battle rage, tear at the surprised blue beast. Before long the blue raptor fell to the ground, never to get up again. Rassaa flicked her eyes around at the dead raptors scattering the ground, then gazed at the young green raptor. It proudly strode over to her side, and Rassaa knew it would be her loyal companion for the rest of her life.

Note that this is a Raptor — they are tribal beings and I figure deserve respectful names! A tribal name like Heavyfoot or Lackjaw (Or Stormwalker, etc) would be best ^.^

With a great story like that, this raptor needs a very special name. Suggestions?

  1. Hmm…

    Emeraldstare
    Leafshredder
    Leafwatcher
    Leafstalker

Something like that. Hehe. I personally think they’re the prettiest azeroth raptors.

  2. These are my favorite raptors too, I love the no feathers/jewelry.

I can’t think of anything GREAT… but maybe a name with Emerald in it. Also for some reason I thought of Dreamcatcher. That could possibly be a tribal name ^_^

    Good luck!

  3. Emerald on its own would probably do actually, dwarves are meant to be fond of the gifts of the earth anyway, so naming your pet after a gemstone makes sense.

Unfortunately there aren’t many translated dwarvern words from blizzard, so if you want a real dwarvern name, its kind of a shot in the dark.

Gar is dwarvern for giant, so take one of the random generator’s 5 letter dwarvern words and we get something like “Thros’Gar” which means green giant (hmm just realized that might mean your raptor would start up a brand of peas, heh, whoops) Of course theres no way to prove that Thros means green, but theres a chance that its what people would see if your said green in dwarvish.

Best I can come up with at this time of night.

  4. Anything with Leaf, Emerald, Green would be cool

(Leaf, Emerald, Green)+(Fang, Claw, Eye, etc) ex: Emeraldfang

  5. um….
    Emeraldflame
    greenterror
as a few suggestions, personally I like to pick names either from lore or that go with my hunters race(NE)If i rember right i named mine zinelune which in darnassian means glory of elune i think but abyway the best pet names come in time find dometihng you like and stick to it

  6. id sugjest something with unakite.but i think i spelled that wrong and the stones green/pink not green/orange.

  7. Doesn’t matter if its german. But I like the name “Smaragd”. What I like to do is find a related word in a different language, a language that I think would fit the character, then alter it a bit so it souns like a better name.

  8. I love raptors too and i’d like to tame an azeroth one but got to lvl it like crazy since im in outland now :( oh well my yellow outland raptor Grimlock still cool.
But as for a green one how bout
    Galeblade
    Jadescythe
Could try Keith which is a celtic name meaning “The Wind”
now for tribal and befitting your story here are a couple i think fit
    Bravetalon
    Jadeheart
    hope these help :)

  9. Popping a few off the top of my head:
    DeathTalon
    GreenClaw
    MeanGreenMachine
    GreenMeanie

All that said, I like Smaragd. =)

  10. you know you found a good pet i just got done checking around petopia and i noticed the eyes on the green raptors are cooler then all the other azeroth ones cause they like the eyes from raptors from jurrassic park, so have fun with him.

  11. dmeyerlind, interesting that “smaragd” is also modern German for emerald. I’m not sure why that should be unfortunate though. It’s the old Germanic sound of the Middle English “smaragd” that gives it the interesting character. To me, the word makes me think of dragons. I’ve been planning to name a green raptor, green windserpent, or maybe an orc ^_^ “Smaragd” for a while now.

I can see how it wouldn’t sound as interesting to a native speaker of German though.

  12. So is emerald called in Czech language. “Smaragd”

I can suggest… Dreamlurker (as for the emerald dream), or… Lushripper (for the wetlands reference)

  13. My raptor is named Rixari, the latin word for “to quarrel/brawl”. I wanted a name, that has a meaning and also sounds somewhat trollish.

  14. I really like Jadeheart! I will wait until everyone has posted any name they want to suggest, but I will deffinetely keep Jadeheart in mind.. ^.^

  15. Stormfang
    Stormclaw
    Stormscale

hmmm green raptor was always a hard one for me as well… i would go with Storm something just because it seems to fit. well have fun!!!

  16. I’ve got an Outlands raptor.. but I named it ‘Qiitu’ I might have to note that I’m a Troll and I like silly names. But for a dwarf maybe something like ‘Kagh’ ‘Struum’ ‘Trub’. If I were you I wouldn’t go for petnames with a meaning, just.. don’t think it’s that good as names from your imagination.

  17. Its green and come from Azeroth… Im thinking Aztech.:Preferable AzĀ“tech but blizzard dont allowed that sort of names

  18. How about Toryll? It is “a” drowish translation of Emerald ( and yes i know its not truly WoWish but it does sound tribal.)

  19. When i tamed this raptor i named hime “Hurt” because of his bandages. i love this raptor. seems so non-combat like. am i right? :)

  20. You should name the raptor Allan. Just thought it would be cool and funny if you’ve seen the Volvic mineral water commercials
