Wrath Info Released
Quite a bit of information about the upcoming Wrath of the Lich King expansion was released today. Unfortunately, my laptop is having difficulties and I haven’t been able to actually look at the info yet! You can check out MMO Champion and WoW Insider while I try to get my laptop straightened out. Feel free to let me know about interesting tidbits in the comments or via e-mail!

Hey Mania,
Just finished watching the new 10 min trailer for wotlk, and nothing too exciting to speak of in the trailer that i noticed in reguards to new pets>.< you may take notice that at around 6:53 in you see they re-used the new outlands spider skin, looks to be the black/red skin, and the black/red/yellow skin. also, at 7:05, looks to be a new windserpent skin. Probably some form of boss mob though, so i would guess it’s not tameable.
Mania - May 9th, 2008 at 4:31 pm EDT
I got an e-mail earlier today that the potential new wolf/worg shows up in that video also, at about 5:51-5:56. Unfortunately I still haven’t watched it myself.
Mania - May 9th, 2008 at 5:02 pm EDT
I also just ran across a reference in the Eurogamer Preview to: “the Wolvar (sentient wolves)”. I’m rather hoping that’s not the new wolf/worg model, since I doubt we’ll be allowed to tame sentient creatures.
Ket Shi - May 9th, 2008 at 9:51 pm EDT
The new worg model was originally seen in the company of the evil viking people, and the new video displays that worg model in a different zone than where the Wolvar are supposed to be stationed (Wolvars are said to be in Sholazar Basin, which so far looks devoid of NPCs). We’ll have to wait and see what Wolvars look like and whether they can be tamed…
That skeletal wind serpent is the model that the Avatar of Hakkar uses when you fight it in the Sunken Temple. Since it’s very clearly undead, whatever kind of creature it is is most likely untamable.
Wolfington - May 9th, 2008 at 10:21 pm EDT
Nothing uber importent pet wise, but it’s a nice video.. Around 4:15 there is a strange, from what I can see Dragonhawk like thing flying around… Wondering what that is =P Feel free to tell me what it is and comment on my blindness.
Over all I am thinking that Blizz was thinking more about quests and stuff when they made (and are still making) the expansion, rather than pets.
palladiamors - May 9th, 2008 at 11:08 pm EDT
Actually Wolf, if you’ll notice we saw very, very little in the ways of actual mobs. Northrend is supposed to be bigger then Outlands, yet we have seen only around five or so beasts. I think we still have a large number of surprises in store for us, and I am actually becoming rather excited about WoW again.
Ryno - May 10th, 2008 at 1:03 am EDT
Am I the only one who saw the dragonblight dragonhawks? When it first shows the dragonblight, you can see some flying mobs, which look a lot like dragonhawks. Though yes, these are probably dragonkin, and undead, but still…
Ket Shi - May 10th, 2008 at 1:41 am EDT
Hehe, I don’t think they were all that concerned with pets last expansion either - see the masses of caster pets and spore bats.
I’m curious about pets they introduced in the Burning Crusade, myself. It would be annoying not to have spore bats, nether rays, warp stalkers, ravagers, and dragonhawks availible above level 70, but it would be quite a leap to plant those creatures all the way in Northrend.
Seidouyumi - May 10th, 2008 at 8:11 am EDT
Ket Shi-
Dragonhawks are a possibility. Please remember that they do exist in Azeroth, albeit in Eversong Woods.
I did notice that we will be seeing more of the scary spiders from Bloodmyst Isle.
And, Ryno, you aren’t the only one to see them, but I wasn’t sure if they were Dragonhawks or a new model of bat.
We may also see new Wind Serpents.
Rikaku - May 10th, 2008 at 12:06 pm EDT
As several have mentioned the Wolf/worg that appeared in other videos, I really think it may be WoW’s take on the “giant wolf” creatures from the previous Warcraft games (I think it was 3) so I’m hoping they’ll be tameable.
Those horrid sounding spiders from outlands are in the video, I’m sure they’re tameable, though that undead windserpent probably isn’t tameable. He looks more like a boss of that Zul’drak area.
Beastfury - May 10th, 2008 at 1:19 pm EDT
I read on some link on MMO-Champion about in Zul’Drak, they said it was in an area with dinosaurs or something like that, I couldn’t find it again, but if someone else sees it in the reading please post about it, I think it’d be awesome to have a triceratops pet lol.
Beastfury - May 10th, 2008 at 1:21 pm EDT
Found it, took me 2 seconds, lol, on Eurogamer Quote “Drak’Theron Keep, where improbable dinosaurs roam and Scourge necromancers overwhelm players with waves of resurrected Trolls.”
Wolfington - May 10th, 2008 at 1:27 pm EDT
As in Un’Goro I think that most likely none of the dinosaurs will be tameble, maybe raptors and thats all. However, I will enjoy being there as I have always loved dinosaur areas.
Also, maybe new dino skins, ^^
Nighthunter - May 10th, 2008 at 2:18 pm EDT
Loads of news about WotLK, but sadly nothing about Hunters/Pets.
These are some of the things I noticed in the awesome gamespy movies:
- An amazing looking orca in the Borean Tundra zone.
- In a village in the Howling Fjord zone were mule like creatures standing, carrying lots of stuff.
- In Zul’Drak there was a skeleton form of a Wind Serpent, though it is probably not a beast but undead I guess.
Other interesting things:
- Inscription: Every character gets six slots in which glyphs can be put. Glyphs are made by inscribers and allow players to modify spells and abilities (and hopefully there will be a glyph which give our pets extra threat…)
- Mounts: At level 77 the ability to use a flying mount can be unlocked, and current flying mounts can be used, but there will be new ones as well.
- The famous hunter and all time hero Hemet Nesingwary is opposed by an environment-friendly group called D.E.H.T.A. (Druids for the ethical and humane treatment of animals).
This is outrageous! As Hemet is a very close personal friend of mine, I hereby promiss to help him everyway I can, and my new motto is D.E.A.T.H to D.E.H.T.A…
Seidouyumi - May 10th, 2008 at 5:32 pm EDT
I’m not sure if those are Dragonhawks we see the Orc fighting in the sky. They’re not quite the same structure as the current Dragonhawk, and looks something like the Bats. That said, it could always be a new beast.
Ryno - May 10th, 2008 at 6:25 pm EDT
No, not the orc fighting, they’re seen right when it says Dragonblight, just for a few seconds. Might be bats, or dragonhawks, or some dragonkin. Hehe, they just look cool to me.
Ryno - May 10th, 2008 at 6:40 pm EDT
Ooops, my bad, watched again, yep, he was fighting them. My bad.
Seidouyumi - May 11th, 2008 at 12:38 am EDT
It’s ok, Ryno :D
wolferinguin - May 11th, 2008 at 11:04 am EDT
The wolf/worg is purple with big teeth sticking out its mostly a wolf but has a little worg in it I hope their tameable when the new expansion is out. Hows Kaet Mania?
Wolfington - May 11th, 2008 at 5:37 pm EDT
Oh wow, D.E.H.T.A. sounds kind of… Well, I won’t say anything.
By the way, has bliz said anything about the newer flying mounts? I am all curious now. But I am guessing that they will leave those for the players to find once Norhterend comes out.
Palladiamors - May 11th, 2008 at 7:45 pm EDT
*Chuckles* You mean we may actually get a new rank of furious howl?! Whoohoo!!
As a side note, it was said that movement effecting abilities will be brought back in this expansion. Originally there were only one or two items, but that was waaaaayyyy back before I even started playing. Does this mean we hunters may get a skill to give us a bit more range when some one comes into melee? Or perhaps we will see pets getting abilities that do it as well. Eh, nothing to do but wait for it.
Yossir (w/ Torc & Ravioli) - May 11th, 2008 at 7:52 pm EDT
I’m probably speaking on behalf of several other hunters, but I’m hoping that many of the lvl 71+ beast located in Outland will be come tamable with the release of WotLK. I didn’t start playing until the first week before TBC was launched, but I do remember reading something about some of the creatures in ZG becoming tamable after TBC. Maybe Blizzard will do the same thing with the Sunblade Dragonhawks in the Sunwell Plateau and the other ones inside ZA.
And i just read that thing about Hemet, and its fricking hilarious!
Nimizar - May 11th, 2008 at 8:24 pm EDT
@Nighthunter: there really wasn’t a lot about *any* of the current 9 classes in the new explansion info (just a vague reference to Rend and Thunderclap being changed for warriors, and an indication that classes other than the DK will be getting knockback/forced movement type abilities).
The Hemet vs DEHTA thing sounds like it should be fun though (I wonder if HN Jr will head to Outland, and HN III take over the original mastery quests in STV).
Nimizar - May 11th, 2008 at 8:25 pm EDT
Hmm, I should really use the preview button… what’s an explansion? :)
Mr. Perfect - May 11th, 2008 at 10:28 pm EDT
The new crab skins are pretty nice looking. Don’t remember them being mentioned before, but the Forgotten Crab looks familiar all the same.

C’mon new Turtles!
Seidouyumi - May 11th, 2008 at 11:44 pm EDT
Yossir-
Intrinsically, they’re tameable simply because they aren’t a boss mob, and are in a pet family. The only restriction is the level. You cannot tame something higher in level than you. Once the expansion goes live, they should be tamable.
I am hoping that they add in some new skins for some of the families, and finish out the ones that have been left rather alone.
PepsiJedi - May 12th, 2008 at 2:27 am EDT
Just a note
“Wolvar (”Wolverine dudes,” whatever that means)”
Was what I found.
As one that’s been praying for a wolverine pet in WotLK, I’d like to point out “Wolverine”s are FAR FAR DIFFERENT than “Wolves” or “Worgs”
Not saying there IS going to be a wolverine pet, but above somone made it out like the half wolf half worg thing we saw might be this “Wolvar”
If it’s a wolverine dude, it’s not a wolf. or a worg. But something (( i’d think)) much cooler. We already have werewolves after all. “Wolverine dudes” Would be wicked.
ESPECIALLY if we get wolverine pets. I’d trade up to one in a second flat.
Ryno - May 12th, 2008 at 10:35 am EDT
Those purple wolf/wolverine things don’t interest me much… but I might use one if they can make them have higher damage than a cat/raptor/ravager or something (+12%/-3%/-3% maybe?), but I doubt it. Hopefull Blizz can make new versions (read: skins) for all the pets they didn’t make new ones for in WotLK, along with new pet families thrown in. Personally I don’t think Blizz is on that part of production yet (or at least not that we’re updated to).
PepsiJedi - May 12th, 2008 at 4:15 pm EDT
Again. Wolf and Wolverine are two totally different animals. Sure they’re both furry and have 4 legs a tail and teeth but they’re not even in the same family. Wolverine’s arn’t canine. The big purple wolf/worg thing is ___NOT___ a wolverine.
Wolverines are large members of the weasel family, and totally different from wolves or dogs of any kind.
Seidouyumi - May 12th, 2008 at 4:30 pm EDT
Pepsijedi-
You’re asking people to know the difference between a Wolf and a Wolverine when they don’t know the difference between a Wolf and a Hyena. Hyenae are related to Felines not Canines even though they look more Canine than Feline.
Ryno - May 12th, 2008 at 4:38 pm EDT
Heh, you’re asking something of people, period. That right there is too much for most of them. But I digress.
Drakkena - May 13th, 2008 at 12:34 am EDT
At around 4:44 I saw the Black Owl skin being used, not sure if these will be pets seeing as they are flying up in the air but we can’t overlook a possible pet model being used now can we ;)
At Around 5:06 I saw what looked to me like a Spectral Bird of some sort. Perhaps a parrot, once again. Don’t think it’d be tameable but still nice looking into the possibility right?
At 5:47 the new wolf model was used again, I am possibly seeing these as a Tameable beast in the game as they seem to be so common amongst the previews. Though not in my taste for a pet they do kick it up a notch for the wolf family.
6:52 we have two of the Outland Spiders being used there. The Black/Red (Or possibly just a solid black I don’t know if there was red or not on it) which is only found on Zarakh and the Red/Orange/Yellow which is more common and easier to get for most at high levels.
7:04 was something that looked like an Undead Windserpent, possibly a boss or a quest species and it will not be tameable. But if it is AWESOME we get another undead beasty to tame (And it looks kick ass as well!)
7:32 I think it was a frog oO I’m not to sure but it was either a lizard or a frog. I’m leaning towards frog but it just caught my eye for some odd reason. Wouldn’t it be hilarious if we could tame frogs xD
Somethings look promising others don’t but I did enjoy seeing all the environments. And I have to admit… I don’t like the idea of Vehicle Combat >_>;;;;; especially if it goes for both PVP and PVE @_@
