Comments on: Name That Pet: Elouran’s Owl

Being the Legend of Zelda fool I am I named my owl “Kaepora” for that owl that helps Link along his quest. Kaepora sure has helped me out of quite a few pickles and I just love him too much to let him go. I suggest Silentwing or Violetfeather if someone hasn’t said them yet to match your owl’s personality or habits.

I would like to touch on a few of the names mentioned that really really got my attention. :3

Astalder - valiant one, this sounds quite nice to me. :3

Aloorok - liked this one, especially with the sharp “rok” at the end of it, and the rolling sound that I get with the beginning of “aloor”. It does sound quite “elven”, and has that sharp “K” I was looking for. :3

Elu’runak also sounded quite nice to me, for the same reasons that Aloorok did, though without being able to put a apostraphy (sp?) in the pet’s names - Elurunak… I suppose that would work just fine as well, but it doesn’t seem to quite roll so nice for me off my tongue. I suppose if I shortened it to Elurnak it would work.

Soarnak also seems like a very good choice, gives me the impression of “flying” - along with that sharp “K” again. It even rolls quite nicely, giving it that elven feel. :3

Atepa sounds awesome! Though, not for this owl perhaps - but.. when I get an alternative (defensive) pet, such as a wolf - probably one of those Coyotes near Thunder Bluff, I shall certainly name him Atepa. ^.^

Honestly, when narrowing it down - I ended up with both Aloorok and Soarnak, and was forced to flip a coin! Aloorok won. ^.^

Thank you everyone for your help, advice, and input.. Now that my own is named (Aloorok), I shall be able to play on without guilt of having a faithful companion named “Owl”.

I don’t know about a name for your pet, but one word that doesn’t have a ‘k’ in it is “piqued”, as in “…it piqued my interest…”. Not “peaked”. HTH.

IIRC owls are actually far from wise, the common ones just usually seem like they got the wise old man look.

Owls are known for their wisdom, and in myths, are seen as teachers and keepers of great knowledge…

And the Darnassian term for a respected teacher is “Shan’do”…

I am an undead warlock who has always revered the spiritual Tauren of Mulgore. One of the bankers in Thunder bluff is called “Atepa.” I think that’s a nice name. For that matter, why not “Cairne?”
