PTR 2.4.2: Test Over
[edit] Blizzard changed their mind. [/edit]
According to Hortus on the Test Realm Forum:
We will be taking the 2.4.2 PTR down shortly and ending the 2.4.2 PTR phase.
Presumably this means that Patch 2.4.2 will be hitting the live realms tomorrow or next Tuesday.

Sounds like Hunters stay broke ’til WotLK - if not further *eg*
It was a real good(tm) decision to cancel the account.

Well at least growl still scales with RAP… right?

Znodis: If 2.4.2 hits live in the same condition as it left the PTR, then you have nothing to worry about — because despite the patch notes, there was no change to the way Growl scales at all.
Of course, they may have a secret build with changes ready to go live, but that seems unlikely to me right now.

Makes one wonder if they discovered that doing it pure RAP was going to weaken hunter pets too much. Either that, or that it was not going to fix things.
I noticed that threat seems very weird now. I use to be able to walk right past mobs without aggroing them if the difference in level was huge, like thirty or forty levels. In this case, I’m aggroing level tens as a level 70.

That happens to me sometimes, Sei. Used to a 10 wouldn’t attack a seventy mob without you being right on top if it. Now some days it seems like things go out of their way to get to you. Eh, que sera, sera.
Most likely, they thought they fixed it, but when it turned out it wasn’t fixed, they tried to mess with it some more, but what they came up with was so bad that they abandoned the idea. That or, more likely, they are on a tight schedule now.

Add to that “I want to believe…”
I get this feeling that they finally read your post that growl is scaling with PAP and now they’re putting it in.

Well, they haven’t updated the build again yet — they just stood the old build back up. I’m keeping an eye on it, though — if they push out a new build I’ll test it and let you know as soon as I can. :>

Palla, I remember being able to stand on top of a mob and not have to worry about being attacked, but oh well.
I’ve been getting to see a lot of high end content lately with my Alliance guild. I’ve also found out that a Caster stat pet really can’t keep up starting around level 26. When you consider that a level 22 Scorpid does more damage than a level 24 Dragonhawk, and that pet family has a -6% dps modifier. Well, it becomes hard to keep up the damage.
