Petopia: WotLK Pets

Petopia now has a short WotLK page that summarizes what we know about hunter pets in the Wrath of the Lich King expansion — which isn’t much. The most useful bits are the links to TKA Something’s BlizzCon coverage and the video & screenshots of the potential new worg-or-wolf model.

As always, please let me know if I’ve made any mistakes!

Petopia: Retired Pets

Petopia now has a listing of retired pets — pets that could be tamed in the past, but can’t anymore for whatever reason. You can find the Retired Pets page under Rare & Special Pets.

Please give it a look and let me know if I missed any pets. Thanks!

Name That Pet: Skullhunter’s Wind Serpent

Skullhunter, a level 70 hunter from Alleria, sent me a very straightforward request for help naming his new wind serpent:

I’m just a total raider. I love being with a group of friends and taking down that next big bad guy on the list. This pet is just to do good damage and be semi-unique among all the orange ravagers in the raid. I’m looking for an Awesome and Unique name to go along with an Awesome and Unique pet.

Petopia: Fake Skills and Allakhazam

The ‘fake’ pet skills that I posted about here a bit ago have been added to the Big List of Pet Skills on Petopia. There’s a short list at the bottom of the page, and a link to a Fake Pet Skills page with more info.

In addition, the individual pet pages at Petopia now have links to Allakhazam as well as Thottbot and Wowhead.

Patch 2.4: Pet Skill Inconsistencies

Xaldavan, a Blizzard posted on the European In-Game Customer Support Forum, posted yesterday about a change in the casting priority of hunter pet skills:

There is an issue where ‘damage dealing’ pet abilities have inconsistent casting priority over Growl, and we will have it resolved in a future content update to avoid any future confusion or problems. I am sorry for the inconvenience caused by this.

I scanned the US forums but don’t see anything similar posted there. Still, this means that someone somewhere knows what’s up and is working on a fix!

My thanks to Bratty for bringing this to my attention.

Name That Pet: Asthock’s Ghost Wolf

Asthock rescues his unnamed wolf from the cold embrace of death.

Name That Pet is back! Today we’ve got an e-mail from Asthock Lonewalker, a level 70 Beast Mastery hunter from the Defias Brotherhood (RPPVP) EU realm.

Asthock writes:

Greetings Mania and all the readers,

So here is my problem: When the Ghost wolf was available I was lucky enough to get hold of it, I then however took a fairly long break from Warcraft and left him gathering [Spectral Dust] in the stables as I rested my weary head.

Petopia Gets a New Skin

Front page of the spruced-up Petopia.

When you have a chance, swing by Petopia and take a gander at the new skin I uploaded tonight. I’ve been working on it off and on for awhile now, and I have to say I’m rather fond of it. But of course I want to hear what you think. *grin*

Important Note: If you are seeing any weirdness with things overlapping improperly or colors that don’t look like this picture to the left, try forcibly refreshing the page. (On Windows this is normally Ctrl+F5.) And next time I will remember to change the name of the stylesheet so that isn’t neccesary.

Your Pet is Huge!

Glitched hunter pet seen in Shattrath bank.

Recently I’ve been getting a lot of reports about really big hunter pets — pets that are much larger than a tamed pet of their level should be. A lot of people have written in to ask me how they can get a such huge, huge pet.

The short answer is: You can’t.

The long answer is: Sometimes other people will see your pet as huge, but unfortunately it’s not real and it’s not permanent.

RFC: Battleground Pets

RFC stands for Request For Comments, and that’s exactly what this post is. I want to get your comments on hunter pets for Battlegrounds.

Last time we did an RFC it was about Arena Pets — and largely what I learned is that there are an awful lot of different strategies! But the Arena is merely one type of PvP, and today I’d like to learn more about how pets can be used in Battlegrounds.

Hortus Says Growl + Charge Aggro is a Bug

Terrible news for boar owners! In all the investigation over pet aggro in Patch 2.4, it was determined that the great extra-aggro effect of boar’s Charge ability followed by a Growl is a bug and will be removed in a future patch.

Here is Hortus on the WoW Bug report forum:

I have confirmed with the developers that Boar’s growl ability getting such a large bonus to attack power based on charge is a bug. Growl should only benefit from the hunter’s attack power and get no benefit from buffs to the pet’s attack power.

Expect this to be changed in a future patch. If you disagree with this change please post about it in the suggestions or class forums.

http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/board.html?forumId=11122&sid=1

Note that the thread Hortus posted in is locked, but I do believe we should follow his suggestion and post our thoughts on this in the Suggestions and Hunter forms.

Potential silver lining: perhaps fixing this bug will help prompt them to look at threat generation across all pet families.

[edit] Incidentally, you can find a list of 2.4 Known Issues on the WoW Bug Report forum as well.
