Name That Pet: Deathily’s Lynx

Deathily of Stormrage sent me the following heartfelt plea. I hope we can help her!

Deathily and her unnamed lynx.

I got a new pet the other day and I can’t seem to think of a good name for it. It’s one of the Netherstrom Lynxes in the domes. I’ve always had an eye for cats but when I saw this one I just had to have it. It was just perfect for what I was looking for to replace my Winterspring Tiger! Its eyes are really what got my attention — their green and yellow eyes are just beautiful.

I just want a name that seems to fit the animal and I just can’t seem to find the right one. But I don’t want one that’s too obvious. But as I play with my new pet the name just seems to get farther and farther away from me. I was wondering if you guys could help me out and get a good name for this beautiful new pet of mine?!

We’ll do our best!

    cat names -

sienna - because of the color … nice color btw
    mosi - navajo for cat
shimosi (what I named ghost saber) - my cat in navajo
of course my own cat I named Zas - a very nice black cat. but the joke is very obscure - zas means snow in navajo, and it was always a good chuckle with my navajo friends.

    g’luck. nice cat

  5. Verace - April 22nd, 2008 @ 7:37 pm EDT

Beryl - a gemstone which comes in both green and yellow-green shades

Marjan after the famous lion in the Kabul zoo. It became blind on the one eye after a guy threw a hand grenade into its cage, but that was revenge for killing his brother (the idiot climbed into the cage to prove his manliness). But it seems like a good strong name for a strong Lion. Marjan. Yup, I would name my lion that.

On a more personal note im more a very casual namer, without all the fanzy stuff. I named my white tiger Lydia after my grandmother (greatest woman ever), my owl Harold, my polar bear Oskar (well, he looked like an Oskar), and my crocodile for Croco. I admit the last one could have been better, but that was before manias pet name service and i was tired of looking at the sign saying croc (or whatnot). At the monent im having my own problem with my newly aquired darkgrey tiger. I wanted to call it Elvis, but aparantly that is a no go. Bugger. he really did look like the king. Gotta do some more thinking.

    From your character’s name (Deathily)…
    - Macabre
    - Grim/Grimm
    - Darth

    - Merry/Merrily (kinda opposite)
    - Verve
    - Zest/Zesty

  8. Leuko - April 22nd, 2008 @ 8:30 pm EDT

Kinda taking a page out of Mazil’s book here, but how about “Lively?” :) To go with “Deathily”… get it?

    Nice pet ^.^

    I was thinking..
“GoldPearl”? For the eye color, I mean.
    “BrightEye”
“Gaze”, yeah, more simple but oh well.

Btw, I was going to suggest my normal latin name, but turns out that the latin name for lynx is lynx. Anyway, these guys just don’t look “Lynxy” to me. (These guys have long, pointed tail. Real lynxs have little puffy tails. I can go on, I have a wikipedia page infront of me.) Sorry, I went off topic.

    Good hunting.

If you do PvP give it a name you’d except a player to have so that way people thinks its a druid if its in prowl.

    Glory to Survival!
    Long live Marksmanship!

    FOR THE HORDE!!!

    Rabies

I named my Netherstorm Lynx Rabid … Bringing it up to level 70 was a task. It still doesn’t have full loyalty though. :(

  12. Cobroso, Hunter Extroardinare - April 22nd, 2008 @ 11:28 pm EDT

Blackclaw, Goldeye, or a Mania(hah, its always good to be nice to the best hunter in the game:P)

  13. Tempric - April 23rd, 2008 @ 12:05 am EDT

Ember, Kindle, Auburn, Sienna, (going on a color theme here) Citrine, Topaz (i am inspired by Verace). I can’t think of any others atm.

On a side note, Beryl is my second hunter, and Emerald and Aquamarine are two species of Beryl.

Pain. That’s a good name. Lots and Lots of PAIN. LOL. I just did the death march to Eversong Woods to get a Dragonhawk, so I know it’s hard. And I know how painful it is to level up a pet with that great a difference in levels.

    imwithstupid (if that even fits)

  16. Jon - April 23rd, 2008 @ 1:45 am EDT

    Meowth .. That’s right!

  17. Deathily - April 23rd, 2008 @ 7:39 am EDT

Wow thanks guys(and girls) i have to do a lot of thinking now>.<

  18. Jon - April 23rd, 2008 @ 9:47 am EDT

Personally, I’d go for something like Snuggles or Buttercup but I read the previous entries and I do think that Gaze is a very solid name.

A gaze can be an extremely intimidating action (especially coming from a giant cat that wants to eat your face) or a very soothing one (if this pet is your loyal companion). The name also fits well with your character’s moniker (Death Gaze ftw.)

    Here are a few suggestions:

    1.) Bella (Italian for Beautiful)

    2.) Purrrfection

    3.) Creamcicle

    4.) Snowbelly

5.) gattomortale (Italian for Deadly Cat)

  20. Kanaan - April 23rd, 2008 @ 11:21 am EDT

I’ll toss out a few ideas, mainly based on appearance. My lynx has the same skin. =)

    - Russet (its mane)
    - CloudPaw (its feet)
    - Catseye
    - BlackClaw

  21. Faeldray - April 23rd, 2008 @ 12:53 pm EDT

Rax - Don’t ask me where that came from…he just looks like a Rax.

    Heliodor - A yellow gem

  22. Mellindora - April 23rd, 2008 @ 1:40 pm EDT

Might consider Firefly since its eyes are a beautiful yellow and green, kinda like a firefly’s wings.

  23. Brain - April 23rd, 2008 @ 7:53 pm EDT

    how bout Deathclaw, Hellkitty???

  24. Bedevere - April 23rd, 2008 @ 10:06 pm EDT

I have one of these kitties. Mines name is Scratchybutt. =) But if I were to name one in a more serious manner I think the german translation of fire eye would be a good start.

    “Feuerauge”

Looks and sounds cool. ;-) Hope you like it.

    Bedevere - Blades Edge

  25. Nuline - April 23rd, 2008 @ 11:13 pm EDT

Used to have a Ghostclaw Lynx (same color/model) named Qualmi, after the werelynxes from Werewolf: the Apocalypse. Yes, I am a total nerd. =\

  26. Seidouyumi - April 23rd, 2008 @ 11:48 pm EDT

    Nuline-

    If you’re a nerd, we’re all nerds.

My Lynx was named Rukia after the Soul Reaper in Bleach.

Most of my pets are named for Anime characters, though there is one exception- Igor, the Carrion Bird. He’s named for Igor in the Diskworld.

  27. Elaith - April 24th, 2008 @ 2:59 am EDT

    Silky Paws.
    Domecat.
    Lil red.
    Domepuss.
    Chromedome.

    I better stop now.

  28. Ezekeel - April 24th, 2008 @ 12:27 pm EDT

    Asrael

  29. Kahlua - April 24th, 2008 @ 12:41 pm EDT

Roary - a play on one of my favorite names Rory
Flinx - a little play on the lynx
Affection - because its so lovely
Diamonds - because they are a girls best friend
    Meleth - Sindarin for love

  30. Frotto - April 24th, 2008 @ 3:58 pm EDT

Why not name it after someone who’s special to you? I have the the same cat on my hunter and i thought of all sorts of cool names for it, but in the end, i named it after my wife.

  31. Selcarea - April 24th, 2008 @ 3:58 pm EDT

    Emeris
    Scaru

  32. Wolfington - April 25th, 2008 @ 9:18 pm EDT

Oh, I just thought of one!
“Autumn” you could add words to the back of that, like AutumnLeaf or AutumnCat. =D

  33. Super_Duck - April 26th, 2008 @ 8:09 am EDT

Keep it simple and call him Bob :D

  34. Clawhammer - April 29th, 2008 @ 5:38 am EDT

“Silence”. It works with your character name as a play on the phrase “deathly silence”. And it’s appropriate if your kitty can prowl.

  35. Me - April 29th, 2008 @ 11:14 pm EDT

    Belore
blood elf for “sun” it fits because you cats eyes are so bright and his/her fur is a deep brownish red
*grins* I AM a geek! although Belore would be best for a female, it sounds to girly to be a male name! lol

  36. Rain - May 6th, 2008 @ 7:28 pm EDT

    1) Limit
    2) Ace
    3) Blaze
    4) Born2Tank
    5) or I TANK FOR FISH ^^

  37. Choo - May 18th, 2008 @ 4:03 am EDT

    I would go with DeadlyPuss.

  38. Shiila - August 11th, 2008 @ 4:33 pm EDT

I had a cat on wow but he was that white lion and i called him FrostBite
