Paperwork Monday

So I spend most of the day on the phone with my bank trying to straighten out tangled mess of bank accounts and retirement accounts. I spend what’s left of the day on the phone with our health insurance company trying to get the application for our new policy to go through. I finish all that (or at least what can be done today) and the husband and I head out to grab dinner fixings at the grocery store before we settle in for an evening of games (EQII and WoW respectively).

… And on the way out of the apartment complex, we get sideswiped by the office manager in her new Mercedes. *sigh* So I am spending most of the evening on the phone with our car insurance company.

(Aside: No one was hurt and the damage to both cars was minimal. The police came out and decided that the other driver was probably at fault, although since we’re declining to have our car fixed they are filing it as no-fault and didn’t cite anyone.)

    karma - can’t run from it :)
though, my motto for many many years was (perhaps still is, hard to tell):

“There’s no problem so big I can’t run from it!”

good you aren’t hurt really. we need you here you know :) I love the latest RFC, I have always wondered that question myself.

Sounds like some of the days I’ve had in the past. You’ll get through it.

Ugh, one of those days you should have stayed in bed, me thinks. I am sure it’ll all work out soon, hang in there!

    Mania,

I’ve had some rotten patches in my life. There were times when I wanted to curl up and disappear. Some days were just plain rotten.

Just remember, you can make it through this time. Always remember the best days you’ve had, and have hope and faith that some day those days will come back.

I told that to a friend of mine who’s been through a lot worse than I ever was. Somewhere between the drugs and the homelessness, she had been through some rotten things. Today, though, her life is much better. She has a home, a job and friends who care for her.

Take care and keep sane. Or as sane as one can be in this life.

I’m glad it was your car that pulled the Merc’s aggro, not you :)
And I’ll bet your office manager’s glad you weren’t in a PvP car park…

  8. Messyah - April 22nd, 2008 @ 12:32 pm EDT

WTF? Why are you declining to have your car fixed? Her insurance should pay for it all. Are you two insane? Do the walls in your house have a padded interior? Are they pink? Do you each have your own medicine cabinets? LOL

ZOMG! You still play EQII? **GAG** LOL

  9. Leuko - April 22nd, 2008 @ 12:44 pm EDT

    Messyah–

If you have your car insurance pay to fix the damages, they typically retaliate by upping the insurance fees. It might be cheaper and possibly less stressful for Mania to just pay to fix it herself rather than through her insurance carrier.

  10. Faeldray - April 22nd, 2008 @ 12:45 pm EDT

Poor Mania. The damaged car is too bad but at least no one got hurt.

  11. Zalthor - April 22nd, 2008 @ 1:24 pm EDT

Leuko is right. Even if your not at fault at all, they will typically up your rates. If the dmg is minor, then in the long run, its probably cheaper to just pay for it.

  12. Verace - April 22nd, 2008 @ 1:58 pm EDT

I have to disagree with Zalthor and Leuko. If it’s the other driver’s fault, *their* insurance pays for it. Your insurance should not be affected at all. At least, that’s the way it is with State Farm.

Why aren’t you having it fixed? At the very least, leaving the damage will affect resale value.

  13. Messyah - April 22nd, 2008 @ 3:04 pm EDT

Leuko - If it is the other person’s fault, THEIR insurance pays for it numb nuggets, not Mania’s. Her rate would stay exactly the same.

Thanks for your support, everybody. I didn’t mean to come off as whiny or upset in this post — I’m actually ust exasperated. It all happens at once, eh?

To be clear, we’re not getting our car fixed because it’s not worth fixing a purely cosmetic scrape on a 12-year old car that also has rust holes all over it. And which we never intend to sell.

(And Messyah, please don’t call anyone ‘numb nuggets’ here, okay? I know you’re being funny, not malicious, but I’d be hurt if you called me numb nuggets, anatomical factors notwithstanding. Thanks.:>)

It’s okay mania don’t feel bad, you still have your leet hunter
    :P

  17. Palladiamors - April 22nd, 2008 @ 4:35 pm EDT

We’re all still behind you, Mania. It was a rough day for you. We all have them, and I think those of us who posted just want to give you a morale boost.

……and guys? Please try to be a bit more mature then as to argue in a ‘Hope things get better!’ line of posts. The correct answer to that little spat was, both sides are potentially right. If Mania lives in a no fault state, then her insurance would go up. If Mania does not live in a no fault state, then it wouldn’t go up. I just looked it up.

‘Accidents that are your fault have a direct effect on your car insurance rate. Depending on the circumstances, you also may be placed in a group of customers who receive higher rates, even if an accident isn’t your fault.’

Which also means it could potentially go up even in a no fault state. So no more spatting, okay?

Well! Don’t you just love monday? Just like most other people…. I hate it. Bad.

I do hope this week takes a bit of an upward turn soon, I would hate to have you having a terrible day such as this all week!

    Mania-

I understand about not bothering to repair the car. I once had a 1991 Ford Escort. I got into a tiny accident and neither of us bothered to tell our insurance. His car was in as bad a shape as mine and the ding wasn’t worth it.

LOL, ok. You have to admit that “nuggets” is a bit less offensive as “nuts”. HA HA HA HA

(Of course I was being funny, not malicious.)
