Petopia: Retired Pets
Petopia now has a listing of retired pets — pets that could be tamed in the past, but can’t anymore for whatever reason. You can find the Retired Pets page under Rare & Special Pets.
Please give it a look and let me know if I missed any pets. Thanks!

What about the hydro mob from ZF, the boss you could tame for a short period of time, just like the Ghostwolf
Sweet. I like the new skin of the site. :)
Laze, do you mean the original implementation of the Sandfury Guardian as a wind serpent? If you do, it was pretty unusual at the time, but now anyone can pick one up as a bug-free pet.
Just to mention this, for those who might one day want to tame those still in the game, a long time ago, Serpents were tamable. Blizzard removed them, and then put them back in the game. They’re still a pain to tame though.
Wow, very interesting, I didn’t know about most of those pets. Thanks for the info!
I am loving the new look to Petopia, keep up the great work, and I have to say, my lvl 20 hunter Gozra on the Coilfang server loves her pink flamingo, I mean tallstrider! I didn’t know about it in Mulgore until checking the petopia! Thanks and keep up the awesome work you do!!!

I’ve added the Sandfury Guardian to the Retired Pets page. If the Amani Bear and Torgos are listed, then the poor Sandfury Guardian will all its history should be also. :> Thanks for the suggestion.
You forgot to mention that serpents used to be about five times better, Sei. *wrinkles his nose* Poison spit used to chew through people. Unfortunately there was a glitch involved made poison spit a free to cast, no cooldown skill if activated manually, if I remember right. High level serpent hunters have an easy nab in the sixty eights around the cisterne in Shadowmoon. Any one wanting on close to their level otherwise’ll have to head to an instance, at twenty level incriments. *Laughs* Okay, from ZF to Sunken Temple isn’t that bad.
Wish they’d put in more tameable things, instead of taking out existing ones. Oh well, here’s to hoping they find a way to put at least the ghost wolf back in.
Sorry, me cooking and trying to type at the same time is a bad idea. I got confused about the serpent, and was thinking pre-nerf serpents over the poor sandfury. Feel free to beat me senseless.
*Beats Palladiamors senseless but wonders if it long (kidding)*

Palla,
Let me see. . .I joined the game in August ’05. They removed the Serpent as a tamable pet sometime before that. I didn’t even do WC before they changed the serpents. In fact, I was so surprised to see someone with one on Alleria server one day that I had to ask how he got it.
The other thing is, until recently, I’ve avoided Hunters as a class. Not because they’re over populated, but because I really like a lot of the different pets. In total, I love eleven of the twenty-three out there. I also hate stabling pets so that I can level up another pet. So, right now, I have ten hunters. I may make an eleventh.
The other reason was because I kept getting pushed to have certain pets that had the ‘best stats’ but I felt were ugly or that there were other issues with them. But, alas, the guild I was in then collapsed. I only found out about this recently. I left them almost six months ago. Now they’re gone.
On another note, I’m loving Onna’s pet Dragonhawk Orihime. Onna’s Marksman spec at lvl 20 and between the two, we’re talking some epic damage. I worked up the math on it, two casts of Fire Breath do more damage than four or even five casts of Claw at the same level since FB gets such a boost from the hunter’s ranged attack power. They’re not great for tanking though.
Just a quick correction. The Sandfury Guardians were removed in patch 1.3, not 1.7.

Thanks, Korth. I couldn’t find the patch notes when I went looking, but I was looking too late — the dates on the posts and comments I was able to find about the event were all much later, apparently. Anyway, I’ve got it fixed now. Thanks for tracking that down!
Oh cool, a retired pets page. I wonder why they didn’t just move Hawkbane? He was a cool white tiger, totally miss seeing him in that cave. I guess Blizzard is just too lazy, eh? That is so Blizz!
I still think they should put the Amani bear back in as tameable. I’d solo tame the little bugger myself. xP
And I have myself a ghost wolf! One of two Horde on my server with it!
Love the site, always have. xD
