Name That Pet: Skullhunter’s Wind Serpent

Skullhunter, a level 70 hunter from Alleria, sent me a very straightforward request for help naming his new wind serpent:

I’m just a total raider. I love being with a group of friends and taking down that next big bad guy on the list. This pet is just to do good damage and be semi-unique among all the orange ravagers in the raid. I’m looking for an Awesome and Unique name to go along with an Awesome and Unique pet.

Skullhunter with his unnamed wind serpent.

Got any good ideas for an awesome and unique name that will help with wonderful wind serpent stand out among all those orange ravagers? Post it in the comments!

Well, with a name like Skullhunter, I’d say something like:

    SkullCollector (may be too long…)
    Cranium
    Headbutt
    Noggin

  2. shibumi - April 15th, 2008 @ 7:28 pm UTC

heh the first thing that came to my mind is Nightmare – as in ‘your worst nightmare’ for all those bad guys :)

  3. Palladiamors - April 15th, 2008 @ 7:38 pm UTC

    Bluestreak. *LAUGHS*

  4. NaturalChaos - April 15th, 2008 @ 8:13 pm UTC

How about Falkor? Bonus points if you know the reference. :)

  5. Gauntlet - April 15th, 2008 @ 8:22 pm UTC

    OrangeRavager. Probably too long.

  6. Mania - April 15th, 2008 @ 9:28 pm UTC

I had a sysop named Falkor once. That’s the big furry dragon from the Neverending Story, isn’t it?

  7. Verace - April 15th, 2008 @ 9:38 pm UTC

Yes, Falkor is the dragon in The Neverending Story.

  8. Palladiamors - April 15th, 2008 @ 9:55 pm UTC

*Hums the theme from Neverending Story*

I have the exact same pet, im of German decent and i named my pet Blitzeflügel, meaning Lightning Wings in German. maybe something of your ancestry or something…

or i know someone who named his “Bolts” as in lightning bolts lol

  10. Cobroso, Hunter Extroardinare - April 15th, 2008 @ 11:21 pm UTC

Zzzzap, my friend named his that, i went with Spazzy, due to the spazzing wing movements, while its out and your walking

  11. Gort - April 15th, 2008 @ 11:26 pm UTC

Stolen from a Guild member “Skullphogger”

  12. Seidouyumi - April 15th, 2008 @ 11:57 pm UTC

    Mine’s named Temari.

Sigh, Die Unendlisch Geschishte. I haven’t read that in ages.

I’m not good at helping with names, but some advice about Windserpents to pass along. Maximize your ranged attack power. Lightning Breath gets quite a boost from that spell bonus.

I’d say Azure or Cobalt if you want the name to reflect your pet’s color. Volt, Discharge, Static, or Blitz make good names that refer to the windserpent’s main attack. Aggresive or out-right attack names could be Vanquisher, Wingblade, Shiv, and Whiplash (referring to its tail). Saphira (a name from Eragon) is an great name if you make your pet female. Although this name doesn’t fit windserpent as well as dragonhawks (specifically the shadowmoon valley ones), Ridley is an awesome name in my opinion (he’s the coolest boss in all the Metroid games and my favorite villian of all time).

Yossir, lvl 68 tauren hunter, Staghelm, 0/15/40

I had windserpents for a long time, and if Blizz hadn’t wrecked their moving animations, I would’ve kept mine for raids. I always named it the same thing, no matter what color it was, so maybe you can use it to.

Hiryuujin. It’s Japanese for Flying Dragon King.

    gyarados

  16. Danifae - April 16th, 2008 @ 6:31 am UTC

    Stardust :-)

Certainly is nice to be the flashy hunter in the raid. As for naming him/her, here are a few various ideas I scrounged up:

For something everyone can reference (some with a less-than-serious tone) -

    “Serge”
    “Tripwire”
    “Microwave”

    Various names of Gods -

“Zeus” – in reference to his lightning bolts
    “Thor” – another thunder God
    “Ares” – God of war
“Pillan” – God of stormy weather
    “Tyronica” – Goddess of battle
    “Bia” – Goddess of force

Good luck in naming your wind serpent. ^^

My husband has a red Scalewing Serpent from OL, He loves it! he named him Sparky, corny, but it fits, especially when he sends him in to attack something, and he does that little spit fire sound, so cute. I have the Daggermaw Lashtail from there as well, I named him Taz, and I added Dash, so now he really reminds you of a Tazmanian Devil :o).

  19. Dareyn - April 16th, 2008 @ 12:29 pm UTC

I like Javelin, Zap, Arrow, and Iwiperaids

  20. Zaranock - April 16th, 2008 @ 5:48 pm UTC

I like Thunderstar. Its the name of the warrior cat who had fur as yellow as lightning, with lightning reflexes and swift speed. Its a cats name but it’ll fit the serpent too.

  21. WB - April 16th, 2008 @ 6:16 pm UTC

My boar from RFK is named “ISavHlrs.” Prior to the inglorious boar nerf of 2008, he saved many a healer. I’d like to pass his name along.

If nothing else, you’re guarenteed to get heals on your pet and respect from PuG healers.

With a toon named Skullhunter: A few things came to mind
    shrunkenhead,
    headshrinker,
    Myshrink,
Kaze (Kah’zee) (japanese for Wind)My WS pets name
    Hero
    my favorites tho,
    “Something”
    “Who”
    “what”
Its Hilarious to read the CL and see “Who” hit Hydros for X .. or “What” hit VR and in pvp.. someone dies because “something” hit them. I do think they fit Skullhunter because they mess with the mind.

  23. Arrwen - April 17th, 2008 @ 3:19 am UTC

I have a green wind serpent (because it matches the hair color of my hunter lol) and I named her Stórm. I wanted to go for Storm, but the game didn’t approve it :(

On the other hand, with a char-name Skullhunter, the pet name would be cool to be skullseeker or Skully (or Scully if you like the X-Files).

  24. Hua - April 17th, 2008 @ 10:29 am UTC

This is a good list so far. How about:

    taser
    spinebreaker
amp (it’s not the volts that get ya, it’s the amps!)
ohm (in case its actually the ohms that get ya)

I have cats named leeroy and bonzai, as they’ve both been known to wipe a raid or two in their day.

  25. Yvelle - April 17th, 2008 @ 11:14 am UTC

What comes to my mind, given the blue color and lightning attacks, are -

    Stormstrike
    Bolt
    Striker
Lightingstrike (kinda obvious, I know, but I threw it in here)

And because I’m a Futurama fan I just have to add ZappBrannigan even tho it doesn’t fit what you asked for. :P

  26. Athemar - April 17th, 2008 @ 11:50 am UTC

Well my favorite pet is Humar the pride lion. I named him ‘Stilton’ but i really don’t know why… strangely enough its my only pet that is remembered by name !!
working on the lighthearted approach, try
‘Getahead’ – well, it fits with Skullhunter
    ‘Flaps’ – because it does..
‘Lithium’ – those batteries last ages!
‘George’ – i bet everyone would love him and hug him… :)

or following the deity theme, there’s..
‘Tiamut’ or ‘Bahamut’ – dragon gods
    ‘Raiden’ – God of thunder

    Good luck choosing btw

  27. Kerub - April 17th, 2008 @ 12:55 pm UTC

my boyfriend has a list of names for his pets and they are all named after food
a owl named lemon pepper, a cat was named teriaki (s?), a boar named pork chop,
he said he’d name his snake ” deep fried” cause thats how you eat snakes

  28. Irran - April 17th, 2008 @ 7:20 pm UTC

    Cezar

  29. Polashuzz - April 17th, 2008 @ 7:42 pm UTC

    Spike!

  30. Wolfington - April 17th, 2008 @ 9:33 pm UTC

Yossir – Ridley is, I must agree, the coolest boss in Metroid (Or many other games I know, he is one seriously cool bird.)

    Anyway…
For names, I suggest something like,
    Wintergale
    Winterstorm might not fit?
    Rain simple but nice.
    Dragonthorn
    Dragonwing
    Winddragon
    Zapwing yeah, cheesy…

Sorry, I am not awesome at names for this skin.

  31. Foresti - April 18th, 2008 @ 1:30 pm UTC

Though this probably doesn’t fit yours so well, my white wind serpent is named Seraph. Seraph is the singular form of Seraphim, a high ranking order of angels. Name literally means “fiery flying serpent”, although fire /= lightning I thought it fit well enough.

As for the Thor suggestion, Mjollnir is also good. Mjollnir is the hammer of Thor, the act of using this hammer is what actually made the thunder/lightning.

  32. Deathbang - April 18th, 2008 @ 4:43 pm UTC

Pikachu lol See they both shoot lightning and that way you feel slightly better when it dies in a raid :P

  33. Fikkle - April 19th, 2008 @ 2:06 am UTC

    To borrow from BSG, Boomer.

  34. Laka - April 19th, 2008 @ 6:38 am UTC

I named my original (orange) Wind Serpent ‘Sandstorm’. It seemed fitting considering where I tamed her (the Barrens) and her lightning ability. I just tamed a blue Outland Wind Serpent like yours and named it Tsunami – seemed to go with the look and carried on the natural phenomenon theme.

  35. xenzen - April 19th, 2008 @ 8:59 pm UTC

    I named mine Voltaire. :)

  36. Ansawa - April 19th, 2008 @ 9:40 pm UTC

ChaosZeruel, the only windserpents with “wrecked” animations are the Outland windserpents. :) The old-world serpents still fly perfectly well! I went to ZG to tame myself a Son of Hakkar for this very reason.

  37. ChaosZereul - April 20th, 2008 @ 2:20 am UTC

Ansawa: Yeah, guess I should’ve specified. I prefer the appearance of the OL windserpents over the Azeroth ones. Plus, I already have a big enough headache trying to raise my Undead boar from 60, I don’t want to do the same with a new Windserpent

  38. Tahlian - April 23rd, 2008 @ 6:50 pm UTC

Might I suggest “Tesla,” in honor of the scientist whose machinery chucked lightning bolts (and who also invented the radio, as well as several other really cool things)?

I named my Windserpent “TeslaCoil,” as sort of an offbeat snake-type joke at the same time.

  39. mike - May 21st, 2008 @ 5:49 pm UTC

    iceflurry

  40. Beastkeepa - June 4th, 2008 @ 10:54 am UTC

whatI never seem to get over is the fact that outland windserpents have shark-like gills, so name it after a fish or related to fish, or name it after a species of shark.
    I suggest:

    Jaws
    FlyingFish (double meaning)
    Megalodon
    Coelecanth (sp?)
    Sushi

    get what I mean?

  41. Ghostlyarrow - July 8th, 2008 @ 10:57 pm UTC

You’re Skullhunter. So name him Predator.
Because the one from the movie was also collecting skulls as trophies and because he has Lightning Breath (like the plasma Predator cannon).
