Name That Pet: Asthock’s Ghost Wolf

Asthock rescues his unnamed wolf from the cold embrace of death.

Name That Pet is back! Today we’ve got an e-mail from Asthock Lonewalker, a level 70 Beast Mastery hunter from the Defias Brotherhood (RPPVP) EU realm.

Asthock writes:

Greetings Mania and all the readers,

So here is my problem: When the Ghost wolf was available I was lucky enough to get hold of it, I then however took a fairly long break from Warcraft and left him gathering [Spectral Dust] in the stables as I rested my weary head.

Now I am back and loving the hunter class again, however my wolf is only 53. From what I have read it is now really easy to level pets, I am unsure if this is true, but that is the least of my worries. I don’t think I am really trying to level my pet because he is unnamed… I feel as if he’s just a tool and not a member of my team. So… here is where I ask for aid from hunters over this world.

I have two other pets at the moment, one named Frostbite, a Gorilla Asthock found while roaming the alterac mountains (a.k.a. Uhk’loc) and a Ghost saber named Naneth, he has a thing for spectral beings it seems :P.

What should I name my pet?

I am massive roleplayer and I’d like to think that this will link well to my pet. Here is my idea of a background with my ghost wolf, but please if you have any ideas give me your idea of how the wolf could have come to be I would be more than happy to hear of them.

He was once a strong Tauren shaman, young and keen but the elements betrayed him… He called them from tainted lands; he was killed that day and left to rot. But by lucky chance an Orc hunter, clothed in red and black armour found the corpse of the Tauren in Desolace. An old friend of the Orc’s, a Tauren as well named Lunari, had once told him that if a shaman was laid to rest in The Red Rocks then they could be reborn into another being. The Orc, imagining that if his friend, Lunari, was slain that he would personally drag him to The Red Rocks, decided he would bring this shaman to his resting place as well.
The Orc hefted the shaman onto his kodo, and set off to bring him to the sacred grounds. Asthock’s friend was right, the shaman was reborn. But not the same way Asthock had imagined… the shaman was reborn a Ghost Wolf a loyal companion to his saviour, Asthock.

Thanks For your help in advance,
May your arrows fly true, Asthock Lonewalker.

Personally I think that Asthock’s story about how he gained his ghostly companion is excellent. But we still need a name …

Suggestions?

  1. I think grimtotem would be a good name as it is “taureny” and that is its real name (grimtotem spirit guide)

  2. In Tolkien’s Elvish Spirit Wolf seems neat…so you can any one of the 3 words for spirit, and add wolf to the end. Or Mist Wolf works…ah the Gamer in me…lol.

Spirit:: Fëa / Sulë / Thulë

    Wolf:: Draug

Mist:: His / Hìsië / Hith

  3. For all of my names I usually use Google, by typing “Ghost Wolf Name” in goodle search bar I found a book called none other than “Ghost Wolf”. I am sure if you research the book a little further you can find out the name of the “Ghost Wolf” depicted in the book.

  4. You could call him
Most of these are gods or animals in legends
    Mystery
    Embarr
    Apollo
    Jupiter
    Cybele
    Shaman
    Bukeralos
    Balto
    Uranus
    Rimfaxe
    Bosi

  5. Karma, because it has something to do with reincarnation and stuff.
Or Omen, like the one from the Festival of the Moon.

  6. Why not try Epiphany? Rather girly, I know but there is a fierce background behind the thought process which creates the “epiphany”

  7. I think you should name it Shiranui, as in the white wolf from Japanese culture who was said to have killed the giant 9-headed dragon Orochi. Shiranui is the Japanese word for things such as white fire, like will-o-the-wisp. Shiranui was so white and magnificent, he looked like a shining wraith while running. That could be a great name.
