Petopia Updated – Invisibly
I’ve been working hard the past few days on cleaning up the backend of Petopia in the hopes of getting actual new features and content up sometime soon. (This will be particularly useful if we are indeed anywhere near the WotLK beta, although I have my doubts.)
Most of my changes so far should be relatively invisible to users (with the exception of some relatively unpopular pages I am having trouble converting, which have disappeared temporarily while I wrangle with them). But there is always a chance that I’ve messed something up badly! So please let me know if you notice anything odd about the site. Thanks!

ZOMG! IT LOOKS HORRIBLE! WHAT DID YOU DO???
LOL… it looks just fine.
Hey, is that link to Petopia new? I remember the drinking game site pointing out you didn’t have a link, and I looked for one too. I swear I coundn’t find one, but now it’s right there! I’m either blind, or it’s new. :)
Things seem great so far.
BTW, it is possible that Wrath will be coming out faster than TBC did. This is something that I stumbled upon somewhere (if I find it again I’ll link it). Originally, the game was suppose to have a level cap of 70 and include Northrend in it. If you look at a lot of the Alpha maps that are still running around, you will notice not only Northrend, but two islands off the coast of STV. Basically, Blizzard pulled Northrend from the original release before Beta because of the time constraints. So now, they’re bringing in, but they’ve also had a lot longer to work on it than TBC.
Glad to hear that Wrath may come out sooner than it TBC did — Petopia doesn’t have any huge mess ups that I can see, so I think you are hiding your handy work pretty well ^^
Since F&F alpha doesn’t seem to have started yet, I would be very surprised if beta was truly imminent. I was in the previous two alphas, and both seemed, to me, to be a pretty crucial part of the development process.
Ringo,
It’s, well, kind of in terms of relativity. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Wrath come out end of this year without delays. A lot of the ground work was laid for this expansion back when they first created the original game.
When I reserved my copy and Gamestop they told me it was already set to come out mid-November. …
‘Pet Skill Calculators’ page has his links out of date.
Faelamor: Which link is out of date? There’s only two, and one is internal. Oh, do you mean that the links on Lassira’s pet calculator itself are out of date? I didn’t notice that before, but you’re right — I’ll e-mail her and let her know, in case she doesn’t. Thanks for the heads up!
EDIT: On second look, the links don’t seem to be out of date (except for the one to report errors), but I am having trouble loading them.
Faulk,
I’m not going to speculate as to whether or not they have set a firm date yet. Amazon is listing it as November 30th, though.
I decided to check something and noticed that the PTR forum has been totally pulled from the index. You can still get to it from the community site, but not from the forum index or from the scroll index inside a forum. So, if the speculation is correct, something big is on the way.
Can’t find anything major so far, I’ll drag net everything in the site in a bit.
We’ll get it on test realms when we get it on test realms. I am eager, and at the same time scared. Most other classes got some really fun stuff last ten levels, but I was a bit disappointed in our fare. I know some/most people swear by steady shot, but its only redeeming value is that it doesn’t reset your shot timer. I do love aspect of the viper, though I miss the mid viper that had better all around regen, though I do understand that its better now for those who just like to switch to it at the end of their mana pools. Snake trap is adorable, and semi useful……if used right. Otherwise it suffers from the same weakness all traps suffer from. Point blank range, they have to step on it, easily avoided, yada yada. And then we have misdirection. The king of jerk spells. Seriously, while this spell is a all around great way to start, I’ve heard so many stories of “Oh, that paladin wouldn’t give me might instead of salvation, so I misdirected onto him and then feigned and laughed as we wiped.” or some such that I am sick of it, and would really rather just have it removed and have to feign if it means lowering the huntards ability to make me look bad.
I’m not going into my pet gripes for TBC. We’ve all hashed and rehashed them. At this point, all we can do is hope they do a better job in Wrath.
Well, I do have some news to pass on about Wrath of the Lich King to anyone who’s interested. It’s not really Hunter news, but it is news.
The Hunter news- There appear to be two new crab skins in the game’s data. One is for an icey blue crab. I forget the other one. I’m hoping that this means that they’re going to expand the skins of(and we can pray) and abilities for the more normal pets out there.
Other News- They have removed the complex chain quest to start a Death Knight. There will be some very involved questing just to start one out, but it appears that your account must have at least one character above lvl 55 (which appears to be the start level for a Death Knight) in order to create one. There may or may not be a limit to this. There is still some discussion that you will not be able to make a Death Knight on a PvP server if your lvl 55 is on a PvE server. Death Knights will have a summoned mount similar to the way in which a Paladin or a Warlock does. I vote for a white horse. I shall name mine Binkey.
A lot of people on the WoW forums think that the moves made by Blizzard are indicitave of them entering Alpha testing. They did this about the same time as the last Alpha for TBC.
In other news. I have six hunters now. I decided to get a pet on one of them and I didn’t care what anyone thought. Thus, my sixth hunter has a Crocolisk. I haven’t named it yet. This means I have a Greater Fleashripper named Igor, a Great Goretusk named Tonton, a Spingpaw Stalker named Rukia, Ravager Specimin named Demon, and a Deviate Stinglash named Tamari. I may name this Dreadmaw Crocolisk Offler from Diskworld.
Any improvement you make to this site is icing on the cake. I am, by no means, a “professional” WOW player, but love the hunter class. I made many mistakes on my first toon, which I am not repeating on subsequent ones, and one of them is a hunter. Nothing like the Barrens Cheetah, the Eversong red lynx and the ghost saber at your beck and call (providing a stable master is around >.<) as a mid-20′s NE. All of these were researched and tamed using the valuable information that you have on this fantastic site.
Not only thanks to you, but also to the experienced hunters who have contributed insight, game wisdom, etc. that allowed me to get a couple of unique (for alliance on my server) pets. Admit it…we all love the “cool pet, where did you get it?” comments we get!!
I noticed that the taming guide for the Bloodaxe Worg (aka LBRS Worg) is gone. And just when I could really use it too! Any chance of getting it back up?
Faeldray: That was one of the pages that was giving me problems. :> Temporarily I’ve put it back up here: http://petopia.brashendeavors.net/html/articles/tameguide_LBRSworg.php. The formatting is a little iffy and hard to read, but at least the info is there. I’ll work out a better solution soon.
Does anyone know if the new expansion will also include new ranks of pet abilities we have to go out and learn? Many people at 70 inclucing myself already have 3 permanent pets. I’d hate to have to lose one for new ranks. :( I wonder what the chances are that Blizz will give us an additional stable slot, or a way to do a temporary tame for skill-learning…
