Patch 2.4 is Live!
Patch 2.4 is now live and the servers are coming up as I write this. The major highlights of this patch include:
- A new level 70 ravager to tame: the Razorthorn Ravager! You can find this green gem on Razorthorn Rise, on the border between Hellfire Peninsula and Terokkar Forest.
- Sunwell Isle: A new level 70 zone chock full of daily quests, with it’s own instance and raid dungeon.
- New profession-based daily quests level 70s.
- Major improvements to combat options and the options interface.
As usual, you can find full patch notes on Blizzard’s patch note page. I’ll copy the hunter bits (and other interesting bits) below.
General
- Characters will now retain talented spell ranks so when they retalent they do not have to relearn the spells from trainers.
- Spirit-Based Mana Regeneration: This system has been adjusted so that as your intellect rises, you will regenerate more mana per point of spirit.
- The Daily Quest limit has been increased to 25.
Hunter
- Equipping a thrown weapon while in the middle of an Auto-Shot will no longer cause animation issues.
- Casting Flare while in any way not visible, will no longer cause your flare to be invisible to other players.
- Hunter’s Mark: Hunters with Improved Hunter’s Mark will now properly overwrite Hunter’s Mark cast by Hunters without the talent.
- Improved Mend Pet now has a 25/50 chance to remove one Curse, Disease, Magic, or Poison effect, up from 15/50%.
- The stamina tooltip for hunter pets will now display the proper health increase.
- Track spells will now persist after death.
- Hunters will no longer spin around if they cast Aimed Shot or Steady Shot while facing away from their target.
One interesting thing to note: On the Public Test Realms, Multishot had been changed so that it would not break crowd control if used need a CC’d target. Tht change has apparently NOT made it into the actual patch. SO be aware.
And the note about the stamina tooltip for pets is a little misleading. I’ll have more details on what that tooltip actually shows — and what it doesn’t! — as soon as I have a chance to type up my findings.

The Multishot change isn’t in the patch? Or it’s not in the notes but it’s there in game? Hmm guess once I get online I’ll have to test it out. Would suck if this wasn’t in as a lot of other abilities that hit multiple mobs where changed to not break CC. =/
they brought back the grim totem spirit guides…
however they are now untameable (acording to beast lore) and labled grim totem spirit WOLVES.theyre still beasts, still level 30,and still only live about 8 seconds.they wernt up long enough to test for immunities…
i can still feed my prenurf one at least…
only one “new” pet hehe i had hope for lvl 70 boars, turtles or gorillas.. but instead they gave us another ravager .. :)
I will have to go check out the ghost wolves, just look at them and see what I missed >.<
On a BG note, Alterac Valley is a little different and when the ally ever get ON Drek’Thar, they dont take ten seconds to sweep the floor with him aqnd win. More like the avarage, 10 minutes. Just like Vandalar!
Yesterday my two realms where bugging, Aerie Peak was down for a while and Cenarion Circle was doing things like not having an area spawn any mobs,(Sunstrider Isle was barren) and D/Cing many people. At one time the World Server went down and kicked me out with it. *Sigh* the pains and joys of having a patch.
Multi shot still targets CC targets. They also scrapped the change they were making with the Warrior’s Cleave not hitting CC targets. Why do they take away simple changes that dont really effect anything other than a dungeon or raid run? In no way will it make anyones lives difficult if they leave it it. I was actually going to respecc just to have the imp multishot, but I guess thats out the window now =p
oh thank god for keeping talents…. i’ve wanted to go beast mastery for ages but keep my aimed shot ^^
I can confirm that multishot does still break CC. I tested with my own freeze trap last night when I didn’t see any of the CC multi target adjustments in the patch notes.
So happy Multi is back to breaking CC – We don’t need the game to become more easy mode.
Fish
Shoddy work, as is becoming Blizzards usual on Blizzards part. The non-breaking CC things were introduced to late in the PTRs to make it into the live realms, they may hot fix it. And as for not having multi shot and other such effects hit CCed targets, I don’t really know that that’d be making the game easier, Fish. I mean on one hand, yes, it would, but on nother, when you have four mobs, and one is CCed, and you multi shot, and you hit one mob, the CCed mob, and a critter, its kind of annoying. I am all for putting skill back in the game, but fixing a random factor like that isn’t nessecarily a bad one. And coming from me, who has had my felguard tanking before, its definitely not a bad thing to be able to keep out an increased DPS.
This patch was NOT ready. Plain and simple. There were still to many random, buggy kinks to be worked out, and not enough work had been done on the Sunwell isle. This was noted in player feedback on the test realm forums ((if you could read them through all the “OMFG, NERF/UNERF THIS!” posts)). At LEAST there is an easier to tame seventy ravager now. ((Not really complaining, I like having to have skill to tame a pet, but I got to the stupid mine ravager once, was almost done taming, and got jumped by three other fast respawns.))
Sorry for being all gloom and doom. I just don’t think things are going to prove in TBC. Wrath of the Lich king, however, I still have hopes for.
Palladiamors, who sh*t in your cereal? LOL
Truthfully, I agree that it was not ready for release, but it had to be done to appease the fee-paying audience of WoW. Most software companies get updates/new releases to a certain point and just kick them out the door because the internet makes it so easy for them to fix it later. It’s sloppy, but in the long-term I guess it does work.
I must admit that I am completely and utterly drooling over the new gear, even the stuff not for my class. LOL – The enchants. The gem recipes. The Inscription. The gear. It all looks so YUMMY. Though, as a minor gripe, I HATE the new Alchemist’s Stones. For requiring 6 Primal Nethers and more, they should have kept the +15 to every stat PLUS the class-specific buff. >=(
I know all non-Druid folk are pleased with the Cyclone nerf, but it really is bullsh*t. Every class has their form of survivability and that was ours. Blizzard would never consider nerfing Cloak of Shadows, Cheat Death, Ice Block, Pain Suppression, Divine Shield and of course the almighty, ever-annoying, brain-wrenching ability of fear, Fear, FEAR!
Btw, my Bear’s Lacerate kicks butt now. I dropped a 72 Elite tree guy in Skettis and between my armor and the added damage from Lacerate, I took a total of 650 damage in the fight. SAH-WEET!
Hey have you heard anything about the blue dragonhawks in the new instance? I went inside with a friend on a scouting mission but unfortunately the screenshots I posted on my blog show them at such a distance it’s not worth linking – but since I don’t see them on the dragonhawk page does that mean no info yet or untamable? They look like a larger version of the little blue pet dragonhawk.
I had a great time trying all the dailys, and many of them will make a nice addition to my game time – it gives me hope I might even manage to save up for an epic flyer around raiding expenses and gearing alts. Frankly there’s so much to test out in this patch I can’t even think of giving any sweeping statements on it yet.
I dunno if this is related to 2.4 but I just saw a hunter with a wolf, now this was a normal looking wolf, except for it was about 4x larger then normal and had a surname (not counting _______’s pet). I instantly came here and found it was Rema The Den Mother. I was crushed after seeing its only alli tameable, but can deal with it since I got my ghost wolf :P. So does Rema stay huge forever after being tamed?
as an aside – not sure if it was this patch or not, but the ravager dog food is now usable by lvl 55 instead of 65. great hunter snack – 40 atk and 20 spirit. I’m sure there’s other stuff that either came out in this or previous patches that I have missed since I haven’t been to outlands much until I recently got my orc hunter up to level for it.
ignore me if it’s old news :)
Is anyone else noticing that their boar doesn’t generate as much initial threat as it did before 2.4?
I used to get a huge 3.5k to 4.2k threat jump upon attacking with charge and growl turned on and now I don’t. I am pulling mobs off the boar in 1-2 attacks and he only generates as much threat as my cat.
Personally, I could care less about the new ravager. I already have one that looks exactly the same (go it off bloodmyst at lvl 23). What I want to know about are the Dawnblade (silver) and Sunblade (blue) dragonhawks are tamable. Dragonhawks are cool and everything, but only have purple and two shades of red to pick from kinda sucks.
I spin around when casting aimed or steady shot wasn’t what I was expecting. I knew that the screen would stay in place but I didn’t know your character would still spin around to face the target completely.
Oh, and Paikya, if you re-spec’ to beast master, you’ll lose aimed shot. You keep the RANKS of spells, not the spells themselves. If you could do that, everyone would have each talent spell from each tree. That change was made so that if you go from maarksmanship to survival or beast mastery, and then back to marksmanship, you don’t have to waste money on old ranks of aimed shot again.
Other than that, I look forward to going to the new zone. Just 2 more lvls!!!

Sorry about any typos. >:)
I’ve noticed after the patch that my cats don’t tank or keep aggro as well anymore. *sigh* I guess it was time to take my faithful wolf out of the stable after leaving him there for a few months. He tanks better, but I still have the aggro issue with him, too. ARGH!
Well, the blue dragonhawks in the Sunwell are NOT tamable, for sure. I went in, waited for the pat (robot) to go by, ran up, bestial lore, not tamable. Got closer, casted tame, and nada, not tamable came back up.
pre patch, Paranoid would hit for 4.5k-6k threat. post patch I’m lucky if he does 900.
Aww! The multishot thing was the only thing I looked forward in this patch! Other than that this one just nerfed my buddys and broke my petemote! (If you get any news on a new 2.4 petemote please put it up Mania! I know I’d appreciate and I’ve spread the word on my server!) This is a letdown now all I have is less hardrive space and a boring pet…
Ryno — already did that, way earlier. :(
Ryno – thanks for the info, that’s saved me a death or two! Because I was definitely tempted by the great blue dragonhawk looks – wish they were tamable.
Very dissapointed in patch 2.4. And its even sadder that i just now think “standard blizzard”
New ravager makes the one i tamed at L17 alot less unique.
Aimed/steady shot still rotates my hunter on the spot (was supposed to be changed)
Medpet changed from the notes of last week from 50/100% heal condition to 25/50.
Multi still breaks CC
Pet speed still bugged – saw a perfect example with ravashing, a purple ravager on my alt hunter. It was so slow the ravager was fully stationary beside a mob for a second before actually attacking.
Mobs and quests still bugged.
So basically Patch 2.4 can be summarised as: some new stuff, but no actual fixes.
It’s really disappointing to only have one new lvl70 pet. Honestly I expected all the lowbie Blood elf pets in the Blood elf starting area to be raised to 70 in the new isle. It is Blood Elf territory it would only make seance to have lvl70 sprig-paw cubs and lvl70 dragonhawks tamable.(don’t get me started with leatherworking, they completely left improvements out for us) Blizz seems to just be dragging players along now for their monthly check in the mail.
I also agree with other posts that Bliz is noobing up the game, but that also goes with my blizz conspiracy that they only care about the player$ ca$h not their characters and are tying as hard as they can to get more people subscribing. {gasp}conspiracy theories. wow commercials?? I love Shatner but really do you think they play the game? Anyways sorry if this upsets anyone but Blizzard just pisses me off sometimes with their slow dragged out process. (Still patently waiting for StarCraft Two, what its been now since the video came out, a year?)

Blizzard needs to provide new skins in new patches, not level 70 pets with the same skin as lower ones… makes getting unique/rare pets at low levels a lot less… well, rare and unique.
Like, why couldn’t that dragonhawk be tamable? Lore conflicts may be an issue, but nothing really enough to claim over us being able to tame them…
The new pet they did give us is lame, IMO. On a personal note, I MUCH prefer the ravagers at 63 that are bigger and more armored compared to the skinnier ones, hehe…
To have a multishot, that would avoid cced mobs would make the game easier, true enough. But on the other hand, wouldn’t I take extra care to NOT attack the foes my fellow magician has taken out of combat for a while? I think it would have been neat to have a “selective” multishot.
As for the pets, I really don’t understand why some are untameable. Why are some Dragonhawks tameable and some not? This is stupid and bears no logic. But logic is somethng, Blizzard has thrown overboard a whle ago… Warlocks, for example, would be instantly killed by guards or whoever is around when they show up with their demons on a leash, out for a walk. Demons? After the war against the legion? Yeah right… And the Death Knights? They will be available for both factions and then fight alongside Warlocks, Priests and Paladins… Urgh! Aren’t they supposed to be Arthas finest? Well, some time after WotLK is available, horde and alliance will have more DK than Arthas could ever have dreamt of, I promise. So much for logic and lore… Am I a role player? Yes, why do you ask? ;o)
Blizz really only cares about money. And most people will enter their item-frenzy and do what Blizz wants them to do.
Well, my hunter is only lvl 57 by now (But I love him! Even more than my beloved rogue!) so I can’t say to much about the high end content and stuff like that.
