Clever Pet Naming

A hunter named Boarwood from Gorefiend let me know about the method he used to name his pet ravager, and I wanted to share it with everyone because I think it’s very clever.

In short, he changed his language (which you can do via the little quote bubble icon on your chat window) to his racial language (Troll, in his case), found someone of another race to help out, and then said (typed) the word “Ravager”. His helper, not knowing Troll, saw “Craaweh” — which is presumably the Troll word for ravager. And so Boarwood named his ravager Craaweh!

You needn’t confine yourself to the family name, of course, nor to your own race so long as you can find a friend to help out. The Darnassian word for “Little” might be the perfect name for your orc’s stolen owlet, for example.

PTR 2.4.0: Random Notes from the Isle of Quel’Danas

PTR 2.4.0: New Interfacte Option - Show Free Bag SpaceThis morning I finally managed to get onto the Public Test Realms. I immediatedly headed for the new zone, the Isle of Quel’Danas. For the Horde, at least, there is a flightpath from Silvermoon City. (Whether that has only been given to us on the PTR or whether that will be available from immediately on the live realms I do not know.)

PTR 2.4.0: Patch Notes

The PTR realms for Patch 2.4.0 appear to be on their way up tonight, although character copying is either down or overloaded (as usual) and I had to snag a PTR client off of Curse.

But regardless, the PTR patch notes are up and available on the WoW website for once (instead of just in the PTR forums). Below are the hunter and pet-related tidbits, as well as random things I found interesting. You will of course want to read the entire notes for all the other bits.

WotLK Bestiary: Shovel Tusk

Wrath of the Lich King: Shovel Tusk

Several people wrote in this week to let me know that Blizzard’s Wrath of the Lich King Bestiary page has been updated with it’s first actual beast — the Shovel Tusk, a huge moose-like creature with truly absurd antlers. Unfortunately, I don’t hold out much hope of this being a hunter pet: Blizzard has never let us tame ungulates. But still, it’s good to see some progress on the Bestiary.

Kaet: Where was I again?

It’s been a really long time since I’ve played my little dwarf hunter, Kaet. Two months or more, in fact. I was initially waiting for Patch 2.3.2 to come out with it’s faster pet leveling — Kaet was having a heck of a time keeping her three beloved crabs leveled up with her. But even after Patch 2.3.2 I have found myself disinclined to log her in.

Of Contact Forms and Coffee Mugs

I did a bit more work on this blog today. I am now the proud owner of a Contact page! Of course, you are always welcome to e-mail me the old fashioned way, but if nothing else the contact page should make it easier to remember where I stuck my e-mail address when you need to reach me in a hurry.

I also added a spiffy link to the CafePress Petopia Shop over in the sidebar in case anyone has a hankering for every more Mazzranache (or a small selection of other pets). I’m hoping to get the artist to do me some more original art of different pets, but unfortunately first I have to make enough money to pay him for the last set. *grin*

There are a couple other small changes — the RSS feed should be easier to find and I added access keys. (There’s a short list at the bottom of the About page if you happen to use access keys.) As always, let me know if you see anything funky!

Lunar Festival

The Lunar Festival has begun! As with most seasonal events, it’s only as fun as you make it — so go out and make it fun!

Lunar Festival Tip: This event allows you to get your low-level alts and bank mules the flight points in all the (non-BC) capital cities. Each capital city has an extremely short quest to light off some rockets that rewards you with a Lunar Festival Invitation; the Invitation allows you to teleport from your capital to Moonglade, and from Moonglade to the other two capitals. (Silvermoon City and the Exodar not included.)

Leveling Up a Pet: Not As Bad

Mania and her Ghost Saber Banshee

Mania, my main character, has spent most of her hunting life with Cloud, a Twilight Runner from Stonetalon Peak. But around about level 60 Mania tamed a Ghost Saber and named her Banshee. I leveled Banshee to 48 before Burning Crusade launched, primarily on the beach full o’ naga in Azshara. But there the poor cat languished … until last night, when for some unknown reason I decided it was time to get her up to level 70 — or at least level 49!

Arcania Facelift

My husband and I were lucky enough to have the opportunity to join BRK and the very charming and utterly patient Mrs. BRK for dinner yesterday. After an evening of inspiring tales, I was motivated to do some minor work on this blog.
