Name That Pet: Epicdrop’s Raptor

Epicdrop, a level 25 Draenei hunter, is looking for our help naming her new raptor (formerly known as Takk the Leaper).

Epicdrop writes:

I’m not a roleplay server, but I love to roleplay. And I’ve created a little history paragraph about my hunter, Epicdrop, as I named her on the game.

She grew up in a small little village. Her parents were of different intelligences. Her mother was a well known mage of the arcane sort, and her father was one of the biggest hunters in their area. Her parents split up when she was 10, her mother being the one to leave. At the time, Epicdrop was known as Little Eya, the name her parents gave her. At the time, she didn’t know what was going on. She wanted to be like her mother, but that wasn’t going to become possible, seeing as she was left with her father. She was taught the ways of the hunter.

Through her training, she’s had many “companions” but none ever seemed to click. Through her ages and growth, she developed a fond for raptors, which are widely known in the horde area of The Barrens, which makes it a bit more difficult to tame. She has heard stories about Takk the Leaper, prowling the Northern Barrens, but she never dreamed of ever seeing him.

As time went on, and she got older, she made and lost friends, due to her outspokenness. She doesn’t like to keep things bottled, and is not afraid to say what she feels is necessary or what needs to be said at the given moment. As she hunted with other hunters her age, and they have found many items of use, and she had always claimed them the correct way, she developed the nickname of Epicdrop. It was more of an inside joke, rather than a spur of the moment nickname. She stuck to the nickname.

As time wore on, she set out on her journey to tame the mighty Humar the Pridelord. Through her travels among the Barrens, she saw something out of place. A black raptor, more to say. Sneaking closer, she realized that it was Takk, the one she has heard so much about and wanted to tame all along. So, she snuck closer, placed a trap for the beast and set to taming. Several seconds passed, and she hoped it would succeed.

Success! The beast was tamed! Epic continued through the Barrens, still set out on her search for Humar. As they traveled through the plains, she developed an affection for the beast, and had not yet settled upon a name for her new companion…

Here is Epicdrop with her lovely raptor.

Let the name suggestions begin!

  1. I always thought Kraven (or Kraaven or Cravyn) was a good name for a Raptor. Or, any type of cutting reference, like Slice, Shank, Razor, or Jagged.

  2. Not very role-playing of me, but for some reason I think they should be named along the lines of the player:
    + Bindonpickup
    + Soulbound
    + Legendary
…stuff like that. Soulbound is probably the nicest of those.

  3. I have a Takk too! I love him so much. Good taste in pets ;)

Thinking along similar lines to Gauntlet, and after reading your story… the name “Lucky” came to mind.

Before rolling on that epic drop, you can /pat Lucky for good luck!

  4. I called my raptor Scythe due to their scythe like claws, plus it is the weapon of choice of death.

    a few other name ideas.

    Onyx
    Obsidian
    protobird
    slicer
    coldblood
    velocity
    cretaceous
    Impact

or maybe Bob. After all raptors in WoW are supposed to be intelligent and sentient, maybe they name themselves. :)

  5. hrmmm thinking about it i like the legendary but how about simply legend. i’m hunter also and i tend to use death in my pets names. some names i’ve given my pets are silentdeath (cat with stealth) maulingdeath (bear) winged death (son of hakkar) and with my new windserpent i’m trying to find a good elemental name for him seeing as how he’s a non caster pet with elemental lightning breath. good luck and hope you are happy with your pets name. ps would be intrested in wich one you went with. longdeath on arathor.

  6. Yossir said: “Ninja, so then if you ever make up a story about having him, you can say that he’s looted items before you could.”

    I agree.

  7. I usually offer my own suggestion, but I really think that Gauntlet nailed it. With your name being “Epicdrop”, the name Soulbound is perfection at its best. Great ****ing suggestion, Gaunt!

  8. I gotta agree with “Soulbound”. Not only does it go with the hunter’s name, but it also is something of a nod to the hunter-pet relationship. Well-done, Gauntlet!

  9. Soulbound is very nice indead! That, or something tribal (Do you like tribal names?) like Heavyfoot or Lackjaw. Just sounds right for raptors, with the tribal feathers and tribal jewelry.

Still, I think Soulbound is the winner. Great double-meaning to it.
    GG Gauntlet

  10. I like Soulbound to go with Epicdrop. Perhaps you cold try and figure out what “Soulbound” is in Draeni if you want something that sounds more mysterious.

  11. Another vote in the hat for ‘Soulbound’, here. I was going to comment on the ‘Ninja’ one, but… well… Soulbound just fits in so many ways, with the story you told and with your character’s name.

  12. Used to have a Dragon Hawk named “Mystere”. From a Cirque Las Vegas, modern play. Don’t see that in a raptor though. So like maybe a name like “RaptorManor”. Lots of <3 to anyone that can guess that. lol
