PTR 2.4.0: Razorthorn Ravager

I caught a post on WoW Insider this morning about a new area on the PTR. Well, not a new area, exactly — the landscape itself has been there for awhile, but now it’s populated and has a purpose (some daily quest or other). But more to the point: it’s populated with level 70 ravagers!
Meet the Razorthorn Ravager, a level 70 ravager from Razorthorn Rise on the border between Hellfire Penninsula and Terokkar Forest. This ravager does not know any skills when tamed and seems to be in all ways a perfectly normal ravager. It uses the same appearance as the Enraged Ravager from Bloodmyst Isle.
Personally, I’m a little disappointed that this creature doesn’t use one of the many unused ravager looks. But I have some faint hope that the current look is a placeholder and they may snazz it up before 2.4 goes live. And anyway, another level 70 pet choice is not a bad thing by any means!
(Incidentally, although much of Razorthorn Rise is covered with a dense canopy of vines, these are visual only — you can fly right through them to set down at any point.)

Oooo, a new area that’s not an instance. I’m so excited. I’ve mentally noted so many places in the world of Warcraft that are used for nothing and its a shame. Like all those floating islands in Nagrand. Why not put herbs on them? Ore? Something.
There are still some things I am NOT looking forward to in the new patch, but I guess I gotta take the good with the bad. I am PISSED that they changed the cat/travel form speed increase on the Arena Gear Set Bonus to something better for Balance and Resto, but instead of making it better for Ferals, they nerfed it so it does not work with Travel Form. Horse Manutie!
Also, they are making resilience work against more and more each day… when will the make armor value work against spell damage? You can be a fully epic-geared warrior, paladin or druid and still get dusted by a mage simply because all of your armor doesn’t mean Jack S***t. Pathetic.
Mania,
I have one suggestion for your site that I meant to tell you last week. I think that on your menu bar where you list the options for “About Archives Blogroll Contact” that you add “Petopia” as one of the menu options. Just a suggestion. :-)
have to agree Mania, of all the ravager skins this is pretty dull. of course I like the green more than dayglo orange, but hey. I had one of the enranged until I could get the lvl 63s and I never looked back. I’d just as soon a nice black one really. that’s another beef I have here - all the folks end up dressing like bards - more color per square inch than an all night LSD trip. and the critters seem to be the same. ah well.
I tamed one of these and there’s about nothing exciting about it. if you want a green one, however, it is nice to have it at 70. I have NO idea how long it will take to earn any training points to train other than growl however :)
nothing else in that area except those lvl 71 flayers. t’bad.
would love to see more ravager skins…. i love them as pets but they need more variety!
Forever shibumi…
:(
I recently grabbed one of the Orange ones out of the mines… It finally popped Loyalty Level 3 this week-end (Been doing dailies with it every day for over a month)… Probably seems worse also, since starting at 70, I don’t see any XP/Level gains…
Krush -
Yeah figured that might be the case - likely either when or perhaps a patch between now and when the next ‘episode’ comes out (Lich King) when they raise the level cap will be the only option to grinding *forever*. Unless they give them the talents up front.
Or Blizzard becomes nice, and bumps it up like they did pet leveling :)
One can always dream :)
K’
It’s a bummer they used this particular ravager skin too, now neither of the ravager skins available to low-level draenei are unique.
What Blizzard needs is, with the new hairstyle stuff in the expansion, another editing feature that lets you change the color of your pet. And maybe excessories on the pet, like armor or something. Armored ravager… mmm… hehe. Oh! Blood red armor with black ravager shell.
I’ve heard that all the new dragonhawks inside the Sunwell instances are of too high a level to tame, Mania. Is this so? If it is, I’m not happy at all–it was really fun to go into Botanica to snag a Bloodfalcon, and I was looking forward to repeating the challenge to get a silver or blue dragonhawk if they had them in the patch.
Messyah: Good idea, but I haven’t figured out how to do that without being unduly confusing yet. The tab metaphor doesn’t work so well for leaving the site completely.
Ansawa: I’m sorry to say I don’t even know if there are dragonhawks inside the instances. No one has sent me any info! *cry*
Mania - Who said anything about leaving the site? LOL
Just add the target=”_blank” in your href line and have it open in a new window. :-)
Wow! I had no idea Razorthorn Rise was there, actually. I hope they change its model to one of the “elite” ravager models.
Hmmm. I’ll go see if I can get inside then on the PTR.
TIEM FOR PTRING
I take that back–sorry, Mania! The PTR is just way too laggy for me to be able to do anything other than get into the instance and die horribly. I may delete my character on the PTR and transfer over some elixirs of dream vision, but I’m not sure what else I can do. XD
Completely understandable, Ansawa. :> It is a lagfest there.
I doubt that this’ll be a “placeholder” of some kind. I’m holding on to my thought of there being a 6th Tameable, before “Wrath of the Lich King” comes out, like with “Burning Crusade”.
I have a ravager that looks just like this one. I’ve had him since lvl 23 (I’m lvl 66 right now). I think its kinda funny that a ravager like this is avalible now. I don’t think my fellow Horde hunters will believe me any more if i tell them I had to trek all the way out to Bloodmyst…
Nooooooo!
Elaith my NElf hunter has had his green ravager since level 17!
And he feels it is rather special and part of the family.
Now any old hunter will be able to get one at a high level.
IIRC it was the only unique low level ravager skin.
They should have given it the same skin as the Death Ravager instead. That would be something of a compensation for making the Death Ravager untamable…
When I got the “Discovered Razorthorn Ridge” note in game, swooped down and saw the ravagers my first thought was “Ooh, I wonder if anyone told Mania about this yet?”
Looks like I’m only 3 weeks behind the curve ;)
I’m actually a little baffled about this. I have not only flown through there, but ridden through there a few times on my lvl 70 Human Paladin and seen Ravagers there before. They weren’t level 70 though. They had this same skin, but were around the low 60’s.
[...] Putting these two things together: I beg your forbearance if it takes me a bit to get updated for Patch 2.4 tomorrow. Luckily, there’s only one new pet that I’m aware of at this point: the Razorthorn Ravager. [...]
