Name That Pet: Tevbryn’s Owl

With so much going on — from the 2.4.0 Public Test Realm being up, to the dual events (Lunar Festival and Love is in the Air) currently in progress — I haven’t posted a Name That Pet segment yet this week. So let’s take a short break from all the excitement and instead focus on helping out Tevbryn, a level 28 Blood Elf hunter from the Duskwood realm.

My new pet I need help naming is a Strigid Hunter I got by infiltrating the Nightelf homeland. It cost me three deaths (one to one of those Ancient Protectors - gods they’re quick for such huge creatures). Anyway, I intend to level the owl to 28 to match me and am making a trip to Westfall to get Screech for it.
I would like a male name, preferably fantasy or mythological, but have had very little success coming up with one. I am not on a RP server but I do take into account what my char is like when I do stuff so a name that fits him and his environment is essential. And actually, I am considering a server transfer to a RP server, so the name should definitely take that into consideration. I am very grateful for any help.
Tevbryn also sent a picture of himself with his owl, of course. So, what do you think? What should Tev name his lovely owl?

Or you can use some of the USGS’s old names (a.k.a. “obsolete names”) for birds. (now that they are done with them I am sure they won’t mind if you use it)

I am partial to “Xantus” for your owl (from the last link). Tev and Xantus seem to fit well together. Still, its a bit of a transition to go from “obsolete” to “mythical”.
You could name your owl ‘Elunare’ its a bit night elfish wich fits his heritage, since he is an owl from the night elf starting area. Thats all I got if you don’t like it I wish you luck finding a good name that you find suitable. Again the best of luck from a fellow Hunter.

How about Ko’ko (or Koko if ‘ is not allowed).

Abbán is “White” in Latin (and it’s male)
Arjun is “The White One” in Sanskrit
Kei is “Sandy White” in African
Shirotaka is “White Hawk” in Japanese (Yeah I know he’s an owl! :))

Thanks for all the suggestions so far. I am proud to say i hit level 30 the other day while leveling my owl up. He is level 22 now. He woulda been higher, but I got caught up in the Lunar Festival. Lots of compliments on him though. Hordies with owls are rare on my server. Keep’em coming please.

I would go for something totally made up. What just comes into my head looking at you and that owl (and keeping in mind your name) is just something like:
*Larvis
*Tebaryl (or shorter: Baryl)
*Varyn
*Marl
*Shovon/Sho’on/Shojon (sort of mimics the shoohoo sound an owl is making, at least to my ears ;))
As I look on my suggestions, I think I like Marl best . To me it sounds sort of old and wise. (If it sounds too much like a wellknown cigarette brand, add an ‘y’ or ‘e’ or ‘i’ –> Maryl, Marel, Maril)
Since few Hordies on your server have owls, you could name it Athena. Not that deep, yet it’s part of the popular greek mythology so more people will get it. Personally I’d go with a name like Watcher, or Observer. Hehe.
I had this owl for a while, named him Charles. Yeah, its not a myth name, but I think it goes well with them. (Charles A.K.A. King Charles)
For some names that you might actualy like…
1. Strix Nebulosa is the latin name for Great Grey owl, so maybe Strix or Nebulosa.
Ok so yeah I only have 1 or 2 good names.
My favorite way of thinking of names for my pets, is thinking about the pets themselves, where they come from, and or how they look. For example Vorpal is my Warp Stalker from Netherstorm, I saw the purple glow from his eyes and just knew. Or my Wind serpent Brimstone, got him in BEM. And lastly NightFire, My Dragon Hawk from bot. But my recomendations for you are as follows:
SilverWind - for his color(Also a pokemon move lol)
RazorTalon - for his claws
LeafWing - for his place of origen
GrayBeard - for his facial plumage
feel free to mix up the words you can get all sorts of names from them.
or go with a classic Video Game reference, Chozo is a great name! Thank you Metroid!
I have a female Troll-Hunter and if I´m looking for a name for a new pet, I change the language to “Troll” and post some Ideas to the Guild-/ Party-Channel.
For example, my Ghostsaber is named “Ackee”, thats “Ghost” in Troll.
So if you like to try change the language and vóila ;)

I had an owl like that for a while. I named him Grandfather, I dont know how it is said in other languages but you could look it up. Seams to fit owls, old wise, and grey. Happy nameing
Well the search is over. My brother, who also plays WoW, made the suggestion to name him Tremere after the Vampire the Masquerade clan (wise magic users for those unfamiliar with the game). I went with that because it fits with my how I named my Ravager, Daigotsu.

How about “Hooters”?
My suggestion is Cerunnos. He was the Celtic god of the Underworld (as well as Fertility, Life, Animals & Wealth)… but in Celtic Mythology, Owls are associated with the Underworld. In fact, white Owls were said to be the eyes of Cerunnos himself.
Also, Arawn is the Welsh diety equivalent to Cerunnos.
Both are mythological and fitting names for such a wonderous creature.
I have had 2 owls over my Hunting career, the first was named Ceyx (pron. ‘SAY-ix’), and the second was Aeacus (pron. ‘EE-a-Kuss’). Greek Lore FTW!
to my friends who dont play WoW I’m that mystic sorta girl I’m pretty odd, anyway I’d say Belore thats “Sun” in elfish so it would fit
Being the Legend of Zelda fool I am I named my owl “Kaepora” after the owl “Kaepora Gaebora” that helps Link along his quest. Kaepora sure has helped me out of quite a few pickles and I just love him too much to let him go. I suggest Silentwing or Swiftfeather if someone hasn’t said them yet to match your owl’s personality or habits.
