Lunar Festival
The Lunar Festival has begun! As with most seasonal events, it’s only as fun as you make it — so go out and make it fun!
Lunar Festival Tip: This event allows you to get your low-level alts and bank mules the flight points in all the (non-BC) capital cities. Each capital city has an extremely short quest to light off some rockets that rewards you with a Lunar Festival Invitation; the Invitation allows you to teleport from your capital to Moonglade, and from Moonglade to the other two capitals. (Silvermoon City and the Exodar not included.)
I’ve been using WoWWiki’s Lunar Festival write-up, which seems reasonably complete and up-to-date. You can also check out Blizzard’s own Lunar Festival page.
The most exciting news for me: This year you can collect all the Coins of Ancestry from the Elders even if you collected them in previous years. In other words, the quests have been reset. This is especially good since I got sick of storing last year’s Coins and threw them all away.
I spent some time on Mania today re-collecting the Coins. I’ve visited all the Elders in the Eastern Kingdoms except the following:
- Morndeep in Blackrock Depths
- Stonefort in Lower Blackrock Spire
- Farwhisper in Stratholme
- Bronzebeard in Ironforge
- Hammershout in Stormwind City
I’ve visited all the Elders in the Kalimdor except the following:
- Bladeswift in Darnassus
- Splitrock in Maraudon
- Wildmane in Zul’Farrak
I did pass through Darnassus to get to the Dolanaar Elder, but for some reason the good folk of that city wouldn’t let me talk to the Elder in Darnassus proper. *sigh* (And a small warning: the graveyard in Dolannar is not necessarily a safe place for an orc to resurrect. Incidentally, I don’t know when this changed or if it has always been true, but twice I was flagged for PvP when I didn’t expect it: the first time when I switched into Aspect of the Monkey and the second time when I used Feign Death.)
At the end of the day, I had a total of 42 Coins of Ancestry and a 15 gold repair bill. I have no idea what I want to spend my Coins on, but that’s not really the point. *grin*

More commonly known to those on PvP servers as the Lunar Bloodbath.
Oh, it’s a bloodbath even on RP servers. But then, anywhere there’s a meeting stone appears to be an incipient gankfest on Feathermoon. Flagged Ally in CFR? Quick, call the entire SSC raid out to kill it!
I’ve politely asked my (small) guild to suspend in-city PvP activities for the duration of the festival. We’re not many, but I am known to be a fluffy bunny when it comes to dealing with other players, provided my wrath is not aroused.

:D
Aw. But I do so love running the warlock gauntlet into Nighthaven. Big Red Pet will get me in the door, but the 20 DoTs from five warlocks will see that my big finish is a faceplant in front of the innkeeper and a ghost run back.
Oh yes, lunar festival is especially fun when the alliance visit the horde cities to find the elders there and vice versa…
Oh how we laugh as we shovel the corpses into Undercity’s canals
So far have all the ones on Kalimdor except Maraudon (too far in just for a stupid coin). The one in Org was a treat. Got killed by like a bajillion blood elves. Who spit on me. They ain’t even real Horde!
Same bunch was waiting for me in Thunder Bluff. So, to deprive them of the HK, i jumped off the rise after getting the coin.
Good times….good times.
I really wish I could get more into the seasonals, but I get bored with them so fast. Then again, I hate questing so that is probably why. If you could level a toon just by doing PvP, I’d never do a quest except for certain reps.
Hehe, I did a similar, but reversed run the other day (Alliance Mage), but plan to get the instance ones at some stage. She got mobbed in Zul’Farrak, but that was mostly me hitting the wrong key (Ice Block) as I was trying to escape the angry mobs of trolls.
As for the PvP flag…my Draenei hunter got flagged for just entering the Ruins of Lordanon. =/
i must agress is wish i waset pvp realm lool
well i do like ganking the lvl 2’s :P but yes you get owned by the other faction pretty bad, and they know when ur feint deathing >__< teh gaurds kill you :( how ever the dress do look relli cool :D and if ur horde there is 5 coin juts in the barrens :D you should see a tauren in a pink dress xD
I took my hunter all over Azeroth to get coins, but not just for me… There are at least two tailoring patterns and two engineering recipes (all 5 coins each) that are not BoP as you’d expect so my hunter picked them up and mailed them to my characters that are too low to get the patterns theirselves but have those professions.
Of course, I like to make a special effort with all my characters to get them a pretty dress or pant suit - there is no level restriction on getting those. :)

That is not always fatal, depending where you fall. The land in between the central bluff and the rises is higher, so jump toward that area. The bottom of the elevator is higher than the surrounding area, too.

That is considered to be ‘entering the city’, even though there’s nothing there.
I’m running around right now with the checklist from wowwiki. I only need 30, as I’m just aiming for the 6 engineering turnins.
Being on a PvP server is kind of nice in this regard, as you’re flagged everywhere, so cities are just places with shorter corpse runs. Regardless, I’m not going for any of the ally city ones or the instance ones. There are 30 above ground that I can corpse run to.
The ghost travel tips were invaluable. Getting to silithus without them (at 41) would have been fun.
Now I just have to get this guy to 55 before the 23rd. Fortunately, that’s easy post-2.3.
