Ghost Wolf Phases

Chigawaa, a level 70 hunter in the guild Hellfire Club on Suramar, sent me this excellent graphic showing his ghost wolf Mirage in four different “phases”: normal, buffed with Furious Howl, poisoned, and in Bestial Wrath. Click below for a full-sized view.

Says Chigawaa: “I really don’t mind being Poisoned anymore.” And I can see why! Is that one amazing wolf or what?

So pretty! If I weren’t such a broke little belf, I’d try my hand at getting one of those pups for myself!

Awesome screenshots! You can also get a purple ghost wolf if it gets a curse debuff that changes the color to purple-ish. One example would be the spider boss in Razorfen Down that gives you a 15 minutes curse.

We are also noticing “innate” resistances depending on how, which one of the three, and other unidentifiable influences the Ghost Wolf is tamed. Mine has a frost resistance of 5 while a friend’s has a nature resistance of 5 and we have not tamed our wolves with any of the resistances yet. Has anyone else seen or confirmed this?

There is a stun that turns the wolf a dark purple as well… almost forgot to put that in my last post.

Iv also noticed that when my wolf does kill command, she will glow red for a second, just like in BW, but with out the size increase.

Knotbeard.have you checked your gear and racials? pets get a small percentage of their owners resistances added to their own…

Hey all. Thanks for the compliments and I will try to get a shot of the other 2 (or more hopefully once discovered) color Phases to add to this picture.

BTW I checked an “Mirage” has no magic resistances.

That’s neat showing all the color differences! Love it! By the way Chigawaa, I believe there’s a purple one too. I know you just mentioned 2 other color phases, but I was just remembering the purple I had my wolf once. I think it was from a curse though, hmm can’t remember which though. i was in AV at the time. Good job posting a pic though for all to see =D

Knotbeard, you’re a dwarf and your friend is a night elf, thus the resistances. Chigawaa has no resistances on his wolf because trolls have no passive racial resistance.

Tranor. Nice catch on the Racial Passives!

  12. Knotbeard - January 11th, 2008 @ 4:19 am UTC

Doh… didn’t even think of that one… Racial Bonuses… *facepalm* My wolf just hit level 70 a few minutes ago finally… First in the guild to tame one, last to hit 70…

Sweeet!! I have a couple of friends ready to help me get one this weekend.. I just have to grab the meta and a “meanwhile” wolf to learn the highest rank of Furious Howl from, so I can teach it once it gets to 70.

Problem!! Petopia is not there! Does anyone else know what’s going on with it?

  14. Chigawaa - January 11th, 2008 @ 2:18 pm UTC

Hmm Petopia is up and working for me. However if u just need Furious Howl Rank 4 go get a Timber Worg (62-63, Terokkar Forest). If you dont have Bite Rank9 or Dash rank 3 then you will need to gran them also before you try for the Ghost Wolf. Best of luck!

It’s nice. Another similar to pet to check out is Ghost Saber, which also has this effect. I love my Ghost Saber.

BLIZZARD HAS TAKEN THE WOLF AWAY:

Through a hotfix we’ve recently removed the ability to tame a Grimtotem Spirit Guide. Players who have already gone through the trouble of taming the creature will be able to keep them unchanged. This hotfix only removes the possibility to tame this creature from here on.

The removal of the spirit guide has been debated within design discussions for a while now as to what impact the pet and its precedent has on the game.
The unintended nature of the taming, the undead status of the guide, appearance of the wolf in relation to the feel of the hunter class, and the complex processes of taming were all issues touched upon and discussed.

Ultimately the discussions brought us to the conclusion that this should not be a permanent addition to the pet selection available to hunters; however, those that have already tamed them should be allowed to keep them due to their efforts in obtaining one.

Update: Working on getting a Purple and Yellow Screenshot to add to the collection. If anyone knows of any other colors let me know and I will try to capture those as well.

I am sorry for everyone that was unable to tame one of these pets prior to the patch. On a positive note this is Bliz we are dealing with and im sure there will be more rare pets made tameable in the future (glitch or not).

  23. Maddie - January 24th, 2008 @ 12:21 pm UTC

  25. Geoff - February 8th, 2009 @ 4:03 pm UTC

i cant believe this, to what point and purposs is it to get rid of them?!?! i havent got a class type to train animals yet and i was hopeing to soon and learning of such a rare dissapearance throttles my mind…good job at catching them i can imagin that it was frustratingly tough to aquire the needed items THEN locate the spawn point again THEN wast 2 hr.s taming countless amounts of beasts in order to get one ghost… RUN TO THE GHOST TIGERS B4 THEIR GONE!!!!!!
