Arcania Theme Clean-Up

I realized rather belatedly that I had goofed in the theme on this blog and left IE rendering in quirks mode. (If you don’t know what that means … you’re lucky!) So I spent some time today cleaning it up. IE users should see basically what they did before; Firefox and Safari users should see something closer to what IE users saw before. Sorry about that. :> And please let me know if you see any oddness with anything on the blog.

  1. Hmm .. that’s odd. I’m typing this is Firefox and it looks okay to me. Try forcibly refreshing the page (Ctrl-F5, I think?) in case you’ve got a cached stylesheet. Oh, and what version of Firefox are you using?

  2. I still see what I’ve always seen before: the “Mania’s Arcania” and “it’s all about the (WoW hunter) pets” superimposed over a picture of the Barrens at the top. Everything below the logo is white (except the words, links, and adds of course) until you get to the copyright box at the bottom, which is the orange-ish salmon shade like the logo.

Running Mozilla Firefox, version 2.0.0.11, using Unicode (UTF-8) character encoding. Not that I know what it means, I just copy what I see.

  3. Oh, in addition, the cntrl-F5 thing didn’t make anything new happen, and I forgot to mention the orange-salmon colored bar below the logo at the top looks the same, too.

  4. Draketh, you should be seeing substantially what you saw before. I didn’t make any big changes. IE being in quirks mode really just threw off some of the font sizing and spacing, so I cleaned it up so it looks more similar on all the browsers. But the colors and basic layout haven’t changed.

It sounds like warhound isn’t seeing the normal layout, though.

  5. looks ok to me and as i use a mac quite often i see some weird stuff going on in both safari and camino with other sites

hehe, it makes a change that p.c. users had the weird stuff and i have never seen anything like that on your blog or petopia

  6. Damned IE – bane of my life at times (web-standards, web accessibility aware developer here). So did you accidently delete the DOCTYPE or add an XML Prolog?

  7. I had a comment in the PHP before the DOCTYPE, which of course was fine, but at some point I added an HTML comment right after it (also before the DOCTYPE). Just a silly mistake that it took me too long to catch.

While I was in there, though, I rearranged the actual structure of the page to put the content up front and the sidebars further along. It’s just a random stab towards accessibility, but I figure in another couple of years I might have a page that’s not awful.

  8. I’m reading this in Firefox and everything looks normal to me. I even opened the site in IE to ensure and sitting them side-by-side everything looks the same. Just thought I’d let you know.
