I have been sadly lax in cataloging new pets from the beta. Thankfully, other more reliable hunters have been on the job!
Serenas/Luxatra and her friend Kaylink, both of Daughters OfThe Alliance on Bronzebeard, have been exploring Northrend like … well, like little exploring fiends! … and sending me screenshots of all the Beast Lore’d beasts they meet. So I updated Petopia’s WotLK Pet page tonight with 13 new pets, including hyenas and (oddly) wind serpents. I also straightened out some mistakes I’d made with skins. (You can expect that to continue for the entire beta — both the mistakes and the straightening out.)

I have two very interesting comments from Blizzard posters about hunter pets in the Wrath of the Lich King expansion to share, and two other non-pet comments that I just wanted to mention in case you haven’t seen them yet.

Between trying to keep up with the beta (and keep Petopia usefully updated) and trying to do my real life job so I can pay August rent, I haven’t had any time to work on a snazzy calculator for pet talents yet.
Huntur from the guild Sword of Light on the Baelgun realm sent me a link to a calculator he put together on War Tools, based on their character talent tree builder. To use it you need to be aware of a few limitations in the underlying tech, though.

Today we have a double pet-naming request from a Blood Elf hunter from Suramar named Yesnumbrtwo. He writes:
I just need help with naming my new wolf, Snarler, from Feralas.

Jorna, the brains behind the wonderful WoW add-on PetEmote, wrote yesterday to let me know that the newest version is almost done.
PetEmote 1.5 is just some days away from its official release. I began asking for help in the new dynamic emote configuration system on Blizzard’s Roleplay Forum as I did the last time. Release date will be at the end of the week (until Friday I hope, maybe Sunday, belongs to the community’s response).

A neat new item appeared in Patch 2.4.3: Don Carlos’ Famous Hat.
And while this fashionable hat has been proving popular with all sorts of people, it is especially neat if you are one of those lucky few hunters who managed to tame a ghost wolf.

Last night I finally figured out how to get the WoW Model Viewer to work with the WotLK beta files.
I promptly took pictures of all the new pet skins I could fins (the ones that didn’t crash the model viewer anyway) and tried to match them up to the pets I have seen so far in my wanderings.
And the result is now posted on Petopia!

Today’s Name That Pet request comes from a lovely young Draenei hunter named Ninian.
My character’s name is Ninian. She tends to be the shy and quiet sort. Under the protection of her father, a master skinner, she traveled towards Ironforge in order to sell animal pelts. While traveling through the Wetlands her father was attacked by a small group of orcs. Ninian ran as her father held the group at bay.

Technically, to be a Q&A I would have had to write Questions and Answers. Instead, I just jotted down notes. But close enough!
- Every pet comes with four active skills (plus the passive resistances) when they are tamed. Sometimes these skills immediately filled in the four skill slots on the pet bar and sometimes they didn’t. All of the skills, active and passive, and in the pet’s Spellbook though.
- When you use pet talent points to buy a pet talent, the talent shows up in your pet’s Spellbook as well.

On Friday, thanks to Nimizar, we learned about the new Pet Talent Trees in the Wrath of the Lich King beta. And soon enough we figured out which pets use which trees.
But one question keeps popping up: How does this interact with the old family stat modifiers?
[Don't miss the update at the bottom.]
