Name That Pet: Hawkspirit’s Owl

Here’s the next entry in our ongoing “contest”: Name! That! Pet! [add canned applause here]
Today we have a request from Caiti from One Among Many. Her level 70 Tauren hunter Hawkspirit needs help finding a name for her owl. The owl has also just hit 70!
Caiti writes:
Like my name, I do find the owl fitting of me. I don’t RP and am just on a pve server…but I think the owl suits me. It helps that he annoys the heck out of the alliance.
And she sent this picture of them together. (Click on the thumbnail for a better view.)
So, whaddya think? What’s a good name for Hawkspirit’s beautiful brown owl?

Seeing that the hunter is named “Hawkspirit”, I’d name the bird “TaurenSpirit”… :)
Well if you want a boy name i would go with one of these: Furion (fury-on), Riku, Nyroc (nye-rock), Talon, Firewing, Phoenix, Fireclaw, Blaze, Firestorm, Scree, Flamespirit, Freespirit, Spirit, Sky, Dusk, Twilight.
For a girl name: Thunderia (thunder-a), Hawkfrost, Hawk, Sky, Cleo, Nyrana (Nye-ran-a), Kia, Nycrow, Skysoul, Frostsoul, Icestorm, Featherspirit, Spirithunter, Kirie (ki-ree), Fearia (fear-rea) Nightwing, Flamedria (flame-dre-a), Dracka (Drake-a), Thundreia (thundre-a), Jinx.

Then i got another owl. his name was BrianPeppers.

My suggestion is Roc, an enormous bird of prey said to carry off and eat elephants.
You can’t go wrong with Lua.
I like the name Moonspirit my lv. 70 Hunter is actually named that but I think the name is fitting of an owl.

I used to have an owl named Chesticles (some people would get the hooters to owl reference)
Though with me a short time, Chesticles was a favourite in guild chat.

I always felt owls need a special name. In Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time the giant brown owl’s name was Kaepora Gaebora, one of those might be good
WoW owls have such a strong resemblence to the Great Owl that I have always been fond of naming mine ‘NIMH’. (or Nimh if you dislike an all-caps name)
Spiritspawn, Fauxnix (Phoenix, but an owl not a hawk, so faux, as in fake… yeah I know it’s corny but effective…), Bovinenigma, Hornwing
Wikipedia suggests a number of current and historic Latin genus names for owls, some of which seem serviceable: Strix, Bubo, Nyctea, Ketupa, Athene, Ninox, Asio, Tyto, Otus. For a Tauren, I’d go with Otus.
My Orc hunter’s usual pet, though, is a carrion bird named “Lawyer”.

This is a blast from the past, I doubt anyone will get it, but I called one of my brown owls Eks, and I had a white owl I called Cigar
name it kotori, it’s like navajo for owl spirit.

My Dwarf has an orange owl (I love it!), and I named it “Tootsie.” As in the owl that decided it only takes 3 licks to get to the center of a Tootsie Roll, though a couple of folks have thought it was based more on the sound an owl makes. Then again, if I was basing the name on sound, I’d call him “Screeeeech!Screeeeech!Screeeeech!Screeeeech!Screeeeech!Screeeeech!Screeeeech!GiveTheTankAHeadache!”
How about Koori? She was Hawk’s girlfriend in Buck Rogers.
Go ahead… try to get more obscure than that!

I’ve always named my hunter pets based on what type of animal they were. Flyers were always named after planes and such like. A favorite of mine for owls is Dauntless.
So many great name ideas!

1. Icarus - (Winged man in Greek Mythology who fell to the earth because his wings burned away when he flew too close to the sun.)
2. Hastur - (Cthulhu Elemental God of Air – created by H.P. Lovecraft)
3. Horus - (Egyptian Sun God who had the head of a bird)
4. Wakinyan - (WAH-KIN-YUN) (Lakota Indian for “Thunderbird”)
5. Piishii - (PEE-SHEE) (Apache Indian for “Nighthawk”)
You get to choose the name, Caiti — we just suggest. :> But I think that one may be a liitle long …
