Reindeer Mounts and Pets
Anyone else notice this? Mount up and your pet disappears, as normal. Use Fresh Holly to transform your mount into a reindeer and your pet … reappears? How very odd!
I haven’t tried Preserved Holly yet, but I would suppose it works the same way.
Regardless, Cloud is having some holiday fun following me across Azeroth, just like in the old days.

Bliz uses a different code path for this… Had (was finally fixed) the same problem with the Netherwing/Dragonmaw costume…
And, probaly like that, be careful when flying with your pet… Many a hunter pet died when switching to the costume while over the void; they would fall into the void and die :(
So be careful with your friends everyone…

Heh, yes I noticed this on the PTR, same idea as the dragonmaw costume thing but less likely to instagib poor fluffy. I should try this out with my flyer just to remind myself why the old flying mount + running pet mechanic irritated me so much… massive train of demons in SMV here I come.
Nice… now, on a completely random note, I’m making a hunter alt (tauren), and I’m going to try to only keep one pet throughout all her levels. Any suggestions for a unique, useful, or random pet?
I’ve just got my mount, so I can now be running around with a snake non combat pet and a matching windserpent while mounted? although I do have to be on a wintersveil mount. Oh well the snake and windserpent are both red, will match the nose!
Styfios:- Tallstriders or wolves are plentifull for tauren starter areas, you don’t see many tallstriders, especially not then duller looks. That and everyone loves the flamingo! and the low level wolves there can bark when you click on them, whihc is good fun!
Yea, wolves are fun, and they also have Furious Howl… Hm… That might just be a good idea. It doesn’t necessarily have to be from Mulgore, though. I’m willing to go pretty much anywhere.
This is for Styfios for the Taurins you can get the rake, he is kinda rare, looks like a normal savanah lion but you dont see him every day. I think he is lv. 10 found wandering around thunder Bluff. Kinda stands out from the normal mountian lion look common to the area.
OH yea I did knotice the pet thing on the reindeer mounts god I miss the pets being able to run with you. But I have to agree on the flying mounts it was kind of a pain.
Sty, if you want a rare mechanic, get a level five wolf from that area. When you click on him, he barks! Its adorable! For rare skins, the only pink tallstrider, rare spawn Mazzaranche, is found there, as well as the Rake, once renowned for early level high attack speed.
Doh, sorry, the rake is a cat, lion skin, big mane, not a tallstrider, I want to clarify that!
Preserved holly does the same thing.
Preserved holly works just the same. I had a fun time parading around with it :D
However, I also noticed that the flying reindeer’s head is disporportional >_<

My wife noticed this with her Felguard. Guess we know why it’s happening now. :)
I wish they didn’t take the lazy way out of fixing the mounts. I miss seeing my pet run with me.
Then again, something like this is an obvious bug. Whenever you mount any mount on Blizzard’s list o’ mounts, the pet vanishes and is resummoned when you dismount. Think of a mount as a spell effect that, until canceled, dismisses your pet. The problem is, the reindeer mount isn’t on that list, and, because of how it cancels your old mount “buff” and reinstates itself as a new mount “buff”, when your mount is canceled it resummons your pet, and the reindeer mount doesn’t dismiss it again. That can mean dead pet, or, as was common before the “fix”, flying along and having your pet horribly raped by ogres or some such. =[
Yes…But that’s why they should dismiss the pet before riding if they don’t want mobs to use the mob-unique /rape emote on your pet -.-.
I noticed this with my felguard on my warlock. x) Ugh, I still get dismounted and killed sometimes when flying over netherwing ledge. >_<;;
I noticed this with Kiba (Ghost Wolf) and Heero (Lynx). I absolutely love it!!! Reminds me of the good ol days!

If I have to start new hunter, I’d go to Eversong Woods and tame Springpaw Stalker. It’s quite rare to see in any ( especially ally’s side )hunters because its highest level is lev 7. Very beautiful red lynx.
I had the Springpaw Lynx (the bright red one) on my Hunter until around lvl 65ish. The available pets in outland are just too cool to pass up. I now have a warp stalker, a blade’s edge raptor, and the lvl 70 purple bird. I was definately sad when I decided to abandon my red lynx. He served me well.
I wish Blizzard only made the pets disapear on flying mounts, not on ground mounts too. There is no need for those to get rid of the pets. =/
There were all sorts of issues with pet pathing while trying to follow a mounted master. Warlocks lost their pets and if they were low on shards couldn’t re-summon them. Both hunters and warlocks could unintentionally agro mobs - and if I remember this correctly, there was a time where if your pet got hit, you could get dismounted. While dismissing the pets does seem to be a situation where the cure is worse than the disease, it’s probably the best they could do.
Along the same lines as what you’ve found with the different mounts, if I’m mounted at the end of a battleground, my pet will appear when I port out of the bg and I’m still mounted. Eventually the pet cannot keep up and it is “lost”, but it does re-appear after dismounting. With my warlock, a shard is placed in my bags when the pet is lost.
Yeah, I did that on my 70 hunter and her pet came out and I was shocked! Its pretty cool though
Also something interesting, I have no mount or riding skill…. but I do have one of those rickity old brooms you get from haloween. Ride that… throw on some holly and walla! A 60% speed mount.
Blizzard should let pets be out with mounts like they used to… When they changed it I was so dissapointed…
Catch a starter area pet, level up to 19, and go to darkshore, use the statues and get a ghost sabre, although many people today are having these…. but it’s cool to walk around with a ghost sabre. On my second hunter i have one of these (level 61 now) and a spider i caught from Dreanai area, the spider looks creepy but when i’m in orgrimmar i get spammed with whispers where i got that. Enjoy the pets!!! I love them both…
I was just in an arena against a hunter who had his pet out on a talbuk, no holly. Must be a way to figure it out.
