PTR 2.3.2: Level 70 Ghost Wolf

Want your own level 70 ghost wolf, no effort required? Then the Public Test Realm is where you want to be this weekend! Pre-made level 70 hunter characters come complete with a level 70 ghost wolf — already at Best Friend loyalty and with 350 training points just waiting to be spent. The wolves do start out unhappy, however, and the characters don’t come with any food, so be ready to dash to the nearest butcher before your wolf runs off!

    …cruel?
Or kind, in that us poor folks who don’t have access to the half a guild of help needed to tame that woggie, at least can experience having one?

  2. Kurdor - December 15th, 2007 @ 3:38 am EST

Very sad. I try to let people only get fleeting glimpses of mine, lest they be inspired to go out and get one for themselves.

I figure the less people that know they’re in the game, the more unique my special pet is. I’m the only alliance to my knowledge to have one on my server.

  3. Ash - December 15th, 2007 @ 5:32 am EST

Proof that Blizzard DOES get our love of rare pets. :3

  4. Emowin - December 15th, 2007 @ 11:32 am EST

I like a challange but I still think its sad they are so difficult for us solitary hunters to obtain on the average servers. I’m all up for making some rare pets hard to tame but this is a bit rediculus. That and I miss seeing my pet running along side of my mount. I think they need to bring that back. WHOS WITH ME!

  5. Rikaku - December 15th, 2007 @ 1:12 pm EST

I don’t want to see them ever make this pet easier, no offense to all the other hunters having a problem, but one thing I love in a game is challenges. I’m the first hunter on my server to have one, and I’m going to be first on the next realm I’m currently on. I love the challenge of getting one of these guys.

However, I do miss seeing my pet run along side my mount. That definitely needs to come back.

  6. Palladiamorsdeus - December 15th, 2007 @ 1:47 pm EST

Sorry Rikaku, but I think they need toat least lengthen the amount of time the ghost wolf exists. Even if they make it ten or fifteen seconds, that at least eliminates the need for needing half a guild to get it. *Chuckles* Not that it matters, unless I want one of my other hunters to get one. I have my wolf.

  7. Misty - December 15th, 2007 @ 1:49 pm EST

Mine is alreay level 70. :D no ptr required.

  8. Misty - December 15th, 2007 @ 1:51 pm EST

Also, if every hunter on the ptr has it, any word on if it’s speed walking is fixed?

  9. Branan - December 15th, 2007 @ 2:13 pm EST

I really hope so, my tiptoeing wolf is not overwhelming me with his coolness factor ATM.

  10. sandralover - December 16th, 2007 @ 5:21 am EST

well i have not gone to the ptr this time to see what the wolf looks like close up but the comments on weird walk animations sure as hell put me off , and as i have not seen any hunters on my realm with one i am unsure what style of wolf they ghosted as i love the ashenvale wolf and hate that opened mouth worg ? type in outland that looks like its about to drop dead with its staggering style and dribble from rabies look

but then again i could be wrong as when i first saw the ghost saber i disliked it and at 21 had her until 70

it seems they are testing to see if hunters like the wolf to me but for me a the moment its a big no i am not interested , if they were to make some of the nerfed ( caster ) beasts worth having ( nether ray ) yes i know there is a few elites that are not nerfed , or a sporebat that can at least learn something ?

if they want to add new pets which i doubt they should at least give us 1 extra slot and change a few casters so its worth having them

spiders have poison spit and web traps when we hunt them , so why when tamed do they lose that ? i cannot see any real reason as the scripting used as far as i can tell would not be a real issue to being tamed

as it is there are few top pets that hunters use instead of the variety that could be used by hunters

i just tamed a eclipsion dragonhawk and so far it seems a nice pet , and on my server i think i have seen a few low level ones being tried out but only 1 or 2 at high level , so it does make me wonder why there is such a lack of them

we all want to be different i guess so a few more choices are welcomed even if they are a mistake like this one was

but to please me a few un-nerfed pets or a wasp beetle whatever extra in-game mob would be nice oh !! and an extra slot

I saw a hunter in a BG today with one, and the thing walks so slow it never catches the enemy. It had dash obviously, but I didn’t get to check and see if he had the BM talent for 30% increased speed. But, it looks cool. I wanted to tame me one too, but I CBA to spend money on a meta-gem that I will only use to tame a wolf that is bugged. Besides, they will probably make it available to all soon anyway. No sense going through the hassle only to find out it is freely available after all. I have a ghost saber anyway.

  12. Ash - December 16th, 2007 @ 10:51 am EST

I hopped onto test as a Tauren Huntress stoked to be able to see the Ghost Wolff up close and I have to say that I am dissapointed. The walk animation for the run looks horrible sped up and it doesn’t have the howl sound effect like the other regular wolf models. Granted the transparent look does help it get lost in PvP and is a low profile beastie while on raids. I think my real Hunter is going to keep her black puppy though… not worth it unless they fix it.

  13. Shinryu Masaki - December 16th, 2007 @ 11:06 am EST

Looks like people either forget or don’t know that the ghost wolf wasn’t meant to be tamed in the first place, thus they don’t have all the normal animations and sound effects. This is scheduled to be fixed though.

    http://forums.wow-europe.com/thread.html?topicId=1782078645&sid=2&pageNo=2#24

This is penciled in to be fixed for a future content update - as I have said, it was never intended that this creature be tamable, and the developers have chosen to leave this as part of the game, as it is no doubt pretty cool. :)

What this does mean however, is that this pet does not have all of the animations that you would expect a tamable pet to have. This has been brought to the attention of our QA department, and this will be corrected Soon™

    Issuntril

We just need to be patient on this. I still love mine though! =D

Hmmm for some reasons the bold feature didn’t take in the second paragraph and his name into account. Not sure why. Ah well.

  15. Nyx - December 16th, 2007 @ 11:29 am EST

How big are your guilds? Because you only require two helpers, making your guild five people [two helpers x 2 + 1 hunter]

There’s your problem right there… join a slightly bigger guild and it won’t require half of your guild.

In all seriousness, I play casually, in a twoperson guild, and I had no trouble getting this; Spirit Shards from PuG Auchindoun, Juju Flurry farmed in Winterspring, Heroism from the level 70 shaman in my guild, and MC from the level 40 priest I hired for an hour.

Sometimes people are just damn lazy.

  16. Nyx - December 16th, 2007 @ 11:32 am EST

Oh, and some gold for the metagem. If you, as a solo player at 70, can’t make 100g in a day after dailies, especially with the new daily instance and BG quests, I don’t know what to tell you - I sell nothing on the AH and have no valuable tradeskills and I still rake in the cash, just from picking up the bombing runs and cooking and maybe a PuG or two for the daily instances.

What else would you spend it on?

  17. Maddie - December 16th, 2007 @ 2:27 pm EST

ugh this suxs I want one of these lol well off 2 Petopia 2 look 4 a better pet than my boar (I love cats I have Humar and Ghost Saber) : )

  18. Maddie - December 16th, 2007 @ 2:31 pm EST

  19. Palladiamorsdeus - December 17th, 2007 @ 1:41 am EST

I was….. being sarcastic Nyx…. but yes, in general, my guilds do tend to be small. I just have in no interest in getting another wolf, even if the ghost wolf would fit my role playing story a bit better. And if the ghost wolf being on the PTR is any indiciation, then we may be seeing other skins of the creature pop up. We’ll just have to wait and see.

  20. Messyah - December 17th, 2007 @ 11:07 am EST

I think a Dragonwhelp would be an awesome pet, though they are obviously Dragonkin and thus, untameable. So, I plead with Blizzard that they give me a rabbit that is tameable. I want a cute, fluffy bunny that makes it all that more humilliating when you are PWNED by it.

Dude, I just got my a** handed to me by a rabbit.

    Muwahaaaahaaaahaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!

  21. marzix - December 17th, 2007 @ 1:52 pm EST

i think it would be pretty sweet if they let us tame more unique “odd” pets. like the black raptors in ungoro (although i actually think that was changed recently so they could), the red hyenas in WPL (so if i wanted one, i wouldnt have to level it up from 30 something), the ghost wolves in kara that are spawned, or other such pets that are not tameable.

  22. Rikaku - December 18th, 2007 @ 12:58 pm EST

Palladiamorsdeus: Yes that would be nice to make it easier, but let us not forget one itty bitty thing =)
These are not technically pets, you’re basically taming a DoT with a graphic. If these shaman were to have 3 wolf guardians out for 10-20 seconds for an easier tame, that would be such a hurtin’ for casters trying to do this quest. XD
So I think it’ll be safe to say these won’t be made easier just because they’re not here for Hunters enjoyment intentionally so to speak.
I didn’t use my guild, got my friends who know how I am about hunter pets and they tagged along =) They love my pets Odin, Kiba and Heero and were glad to help me get Kiba. =D

  23. Stephf - December 20th, 2007 @ 9:49 pm EST

Aww…I want one now…I saw a troll with one in Orgrimmar at lvl 69

  24. Dracojax - January 1st, 2008 @ 12:05 am EST

Ok, I think I have found an item in the game that stops the spawn timer. It worked on a Ghost Saber, and also on a Bosses spawned mobs, but I had to kite the saber inorder to keep it alive long enough to prove to myself I was in fact extending the timer. The quest can be completed by level 30s.

Its a one time use quest item and I only have one toon left that has never done the quest to get the reward.

Heres the main question. If this does work, would blizzard then nerf the pet forcing all the guys who have them to run to the BG to keep it happy?

I dont want to be the cause of a nerfed rare pet. I havent tamed one with my 70 yet…I like all three of my current pets :)

  25. Mania - January 1st, 2008 @ 1:01 am EST

That’s interesting, Dracojax! Now you’ve picqued my curiousity (and no, I have no idea how to spell that word).

Blizzard seems amused by the ‘figuring-out-how-to-do-it’ aspect of taming the ghost wolf, so I doubt it matters to them whether it can be done at level 30 or level 70. But of course I can’t give you any hard-and-fast answer, since I’m not Blizzard.

  26. Dracojax - January 1st, 2008 @ 2:51 pm EST

All the testing I have been doing has used up all my toons except one 36 rogue and a 24 hunter. I will report back soon if it can be done.
