On the Road

I had intended to post this Monday but … time just got away with me. I’m currently in North Carolina as part of a short programming contract. I didn’t mention that I was going to be away for a few days because the money from the contract allowed me to finally pick up my own sweet little laptop and I figured with that I’d be able to stay on top of the news and post at least once a day, even if it was short.

Unfortunately, I didn’t count on exactly how taxing it would be to swap time zones and land in the middle of a big project with only hours to figure out what’s going on and start producing. I’ve barely opened the laptop other than for work and I’m way behind on reading my e-mail or the comments here, never mind answering or posting. I’m just frantically hoping that Patch 2.3 didn’t go live yesterday!

It didn’t, did it?

I head home tomorrow and I’ll try to catch up over the weekend, but I’m back on the road next Monday — this time to San Francisco for four days. So here’s hoping 2.3 doesn’t go live next week either! But all this traveling is for a good cause — namely making sure that we can pay the rent so that I can continue spending the bulk of my time playing games. *grin*

The official word, from what I hear, is that patch 2.3 does indeed go live this coming Tuesday!

At least you can look forward to it upon your return? ;)

Just started reading your blog, nice work !

What type of laptop did you get ?

    Hi “Miss Petopia” /wave

Don’t worry about getting back to me any time soon (I emailed you yesterday). I was the semi-frantic hunter lacking a pet! Fear not, for I have gone into the ways of the crab! I’m quite enjoying it so far and though my pet is only lvl 48 (almost) and that’s a far cry from 68…I’m at least happy with him.

The only thing I need now is a name for the little armor enforcer…(over 5k armor on him already, its insane!)

    Thanks!
    Caiti aka Hawkspirit

Pike’s right. A blue confirmed on the WoW forums that the patch is coming out on Nov. 13.

A new laptop? Ooooh, shiny. I agree with Mastrkreuz, tell us about it.

    Caiti aka Hawkspirit,

If you are looking for suggestions on what to name your crab, here are a few ideas from me:

    (No particular order)

    1. Shelly
    2. Imperial
    3. Cake
    4. Rangoon
    5. King
    6. Horseshoe
    7. Fiddler
    8. Cancer
    9. Deviled
    10. Mortimer

Ok, so it was more than a few. So shoot me. LOL

  6. Caiti - November 8th, 2007 @ 11:37 am UTC

    Hmmmm Mortimer…I also liked Fiddler…

I might have to put all those suggestions in a hat and choose one! Thanks Messyah :)

Too bad “Mania”, it’s official, 2.3 is going live next week! lol Woot! I’m excited!

  8. Steve - November 9th, 2007 @ 11:34 am UTC

For Mania…I hope your having a good time on your business trip. Just wanted to say I love reading your posts, and am glad to hear you got a laptop to stay connected while on the road. How exciting!

For Caiti, I just got a crab and named it “imitation”. Kinda corny I know but for some reason it cracks me up every time I pull it out : )

  9. Caiti - November 9th, 2007 @ 3:58 pm UTC

Hehe another good name though! I’m thinking about naming him Butters these days…but nothing is set in stone just yet. Too many ideas! Not to mention a friend of mine just emailed me a list of names for my crab and WHY said names would be good…among them were (as shown in game) kingcharles, cavalierking, and kingdom…

I wish I could name him Old Blue (with the space between). Ah well though such is the WoW life!

He’s lvl 48 now and doing fine on the tanking lvl 70′s scale…I’m lovin it.

Mania – Could you post an article asking everyone to name their pet’s species and name? That would be cool. I’m interested to see how many cat lovers there are. :-)

  11. Messyah - November 9th, 2007 @ 4:56 pm UTC

Hey, Caiti? How about SantaClaws? LOL

  12. Caiti - November 12th, 2007 @ 8:52 am UTC

LOL Santaclaws!!!! I might have to do that Messyah. Very tempting. Maybe I can start a poll on my blog with a list of names people come up with. He’s still currently just Crab…Needs a good name! He’s rockin those 70 instances!

I went to the store planning to get a simple, basic laptop, but … I got a little swept up in all the stats and ended up buying a really nice little Vaio. It’s a dual core 2.2GHz with 2G of RAM and an nVidia GeForce 8400M card. And it weighs only 4 lbs.

Incidentally, after my experience buying this laptop I think I will not shop at Best Buy ever again. I’ve had a problem with the salespeople there ignoring me before, but this time they ignored my husband and focused entirely on me. The purpose of that became clear as the man tried to bully me into buying all sorts of ‘services’ from the Geek Squad that I don’t need or that I could do myself just fine, thank you. Even after I explained very politely that I have a backgound in hardware support and that I wasn’t interested in any of the services, he gave me a dubious look and told me that I was going to ruin my laptop. So I walked out.

My husband was annoyed, but we found a much better deal at CompUSA and they didn’t treat me like an idiot. I’m sorta sensitive about that.

    Hi ya all!

My main is a snowleopard, tamed her at level 7-8 and she is aaaaall the way to 70 now :) Her name? Snowy ofc :) Then I have a frostsaber called Snowflake (both matched my mount perfektly prepatch) Then I´m rerolling a new hunter and she has a ghostsaber called casper tamed at lvl 20 (Just 24 right now)

  16. Thorgierr - November 16th, 2007 @ 2:40 pm UTC

Mi main PvE is/was Broken tooth, I named him “Brojatonn” which is Old Norse for guess what… Broken Tooth :)

My PVP cat is Casper, another one guess, yes it’s a Ghost Saber I trained all the way up from 19 when I was 68-70. Great pet, and when in Prowl, I can’t even see where she is :)

    Thor

  17. Raaxis - November 16th, 2007 @ 5:24 pm UTC

Pets? I’ve got a million of ‘em! …or just three, but that’s besides the point. >:P

Let’s see, there’s Bigglesworth, (although most of you know him as Echeyakee). Coincidentally, I’ve had him since I began playing, nigh on two years ago; I saw a Horde doing the quest and quickly /beg’d him and started taming… Biggles and I haven’t parted ways since. :)

Soon after that, whilst wandering around in RFK, I stumbled upon my second love–Bacon, the black armored boar! A trusty companion in parties and battlegrounds, Bacon also provides a convenient snack on those long, boring, wait-around-just-to-not-down-anything raids!

And then, of course, the crowning glory, there’s Sheldon, the turtley-est turtle that ever turtled a turtle! (Can you guess what species he is?) Sheldon and I met by chance in the Wailing Caverns way back in the ‘day when the turtle mini-boss was tameable. He and I have been close partners in crime ever since, sneaking into the occasional Heroic instance and showing up the Druid or Warrior with our mad tanking skillz.

So there you have it, the many pets of Raaxis!

(P.S., Love the site, Petopia has been an invaluable resource throughout all my years of “OMG WERE U GET DAT PET?!?!1/”.)

    Best regards,

~Raaxis, Bloodscalp server, Hunter CL of Deus ex

i saw your note on stores mania , seems its the same in england as well as most chain stores want to provide extras , we all know why ( the salesman gets a nice % of the profit ) and the way p.c,s are sold without a real disc/discs of microc**p windoze is why i got myself a mac ,

not hunter related i know but as america is known for its lets sue for the smallest incident how is it that microsoft and others get away with a faulty computer program/programs , if you guys brought a vehicle that only turned left or that worked for two hours and stalled every 5 miles you would demand compensation and the company would fail , are we all so stupid that any other type product we buy must work and do the job it is made for , or get quickly withdrawn and compensation paid , yet computer products are sold with us as the testers and at great expense to us instead of us getting paid to test their products

just a thought of the day
