Community Round-Up: Shared Items, Quick Tricks and More
Time for another round-up of the most interesting posts I’ve seen lately! But first I want to draw your attention to my newest blog addition, the “What Am I Reading?” page (shown in the top menu as “reading” so it will fit better). I’ll continue to highlight some of the best content in round-up posts (like this one) but the Reading page is a quick and easy way for me to share the hordes of neat little posts that I see each day.
It’s also pretty easy to plug into your own blog, if you have one and you use Google Reader. Just check out the documentation under ‘Shared Items’ in the Google Reader navigation bar. And I’ll try to make this the end of my Google Reader proselytizing, I promise. Now on to the links!

Gwaendar of Altitis has a good post up explaining Stopcasting, Quartz, and Patch 2.3. Honestly, I still don’t entirely understand it, but then I’m happy with my ignorance. I’m sure this will help those who really do want to know what’s going on there.
Gwaendar has also posted a handy hint for controlling your pet: seems that when you issue the Stay command to your pet and then send him to Attack, telling him to go Passive later will send him to his Stay position, not to your side.
Speaking of handy tips, WoW Insider has a nice little macro for getting your in-game coordinates without using a mod. Now I have nothing against mods but I need coordinates so rarely that I’ve never bothered installed a mod that shows them. And with this macro I’ll never need to — I just haul it out when need it!
Actually, I edited the WoW Insider macro so that the output is formatted a little more cleanly. Here’s my variant:

Finally, The Delusional Hunter has posted a list of items he brings to raid called Raid Preparedness. I don’t raid, but I found the article very useful anyway — as a guide for what my main should be cooking and brewing for the Auction House!

the macro is interesting and i will try it one day but i like my nice simple coord addon called ” Koordinator ” it does all i need with 1 tiny window , it only gives the coord info nothing fancy like some of the other bloated coord addons i have tried and i mostly use it when in a new area and the map has no details showing , at least then i know where to head to ( it shows coords on the bottom line of the map when you open up the map window )

Attack/Follow/Stay is one set of “options”; Aggressive/Defensive/Passive is a different one!
Stay always means “Stay HERE”, so, as long as he stops fighting (mob dead, set to Passive), he will return to that place! I used that a lot when camping an elite mob that was “bugged” and dropping the quest item for what should be a non-elite quest (needed to kill that elite 10 times when the “proper” mobs wouldn’t drop the quest item and he did every single time!), so I’d set my cat close to the spawn place prowling and thus be ready to do him again as soon as he re-spawned, which thankfully was some 2 mins after going dead or so… Being an NE with Shadowmeld was also useful as I could stay closer to the spot just far enough to be in ranged action and not aggroing patrols…

WHAT? GIRL! Do yourself a HUGE favor and install LightHeaded and TomTom RIGHT AWAY! I can’t live without those anymore! That and a “proper” quest log as the default one, yuck!
Here’s what a “normal” questing session goes like:
- Open quest log and for every quest in the proper region, check wowhead comments for that quest (that’s PART of Lightheaded!)
- Set a marker for the proper coordinates (99% of the time is just clicking on a blue link in those comments with the coordinates and a marker is set!)
- Sometimes, when glimpsing said comments, I found that I can get quest X/Y/Z from NPCs A/B/C and I could complete both in the same place/from the same mobs, so I set a marker for those NPCs and go pick those up!
- When my map is full of markers (those are all temporary markers), I look at it and set a “visual” route through all those quests.
- Finally I start moving and when I complete a round at the map, safe some occasional exceptions such as picking up more quests on the way/from drops, I will have a bunch of quests ready to be delivered.
This whole “preparation” process won’t take more than 2-3 mins and will save me countless runs back and forth!
Questing is MUCH faster this way! Not that I’m trying to speed race my chars to 70, but let’s face it: after a few ones, you almost know those quests by heart, but why should you NOT optimize your route through them? And it doesn’t need following a paper guide from player X or Y! You do the ones you want, in the order you want, but you do it faster!
I hate moving around not doing something “useful”, so whatever cuts my traveling time is a MUST, as long as it’s legit and no hack!
