Updated Blogroll
I have a new and improved auto-updating blogroll on my Blogroll page! Check it out!
I’ve been struggling with my blogroll for several weeks now, trying to decide what to do with it. I had made a point of writing descriptions for the blogs on my roll so that readers could more easily find something that interested them, but at this point I am tracking more than 70 WoW blogs on Google Reader — and that’s just too many! Even worse, I add several new blogs a week — and while adding a blog to the built-in WordPress blogroll isn’t all that time-consuming, it’s not something I want to do quite that often (and especially not while I’m busy happily reading new posts). So my blogroll had been falling further and further behind. I even went do far as to cut it down to just a few blogs last week, although I really wasn’t satisfied with that solution.
But now, Google Reader has helped me solve the problem that Google Reader (or possibly my own rapacious appetite for content) has caused! I now have a complete blogroll that automatically updates when I add a new subscription! In short, I’m using a JavaScript to grab all my WoW blog subscriptions from a shared page on Google and then formatting them into a nice list.
It’s a little complicated to set up, but if you use Google Reader and you have your own blog you might want to check it out. This great post on the (unofficial) Google Operating System blog can help you get started with a Google-Reader generated blogroll.
I’m actually still using the old WordPress blogroll for the blogs I reference the most — that way I can add a short description to each. But this allows me to showcase all the other great WoW blogs that I read as well. Overall, I am quite please with this solution. Let me know what you think!

Thank you very much, firstly, for the link in your blogroll. Makes me feel special… /blush
Secondly, thank you for the information on the Google Reader blogroll… I try to link to all the blogs that I read, but I have so many and the list is constantly expanding… having one generated by Google Reader is a great idea and one that I think I might be looking into!
Oh wow, that’s a neat tool. I desperately need to add more blogs to my blogroll myself (with people like Pike, who I’m already reading!), but since I decided I had to go and do it all *fancy-like* with pictures, it becomes even more of a chore to update. Ah well. Sometime this week I’d better buckle down and start making 50×50 buttons again.
Yeah, I was really happy to get this working. :> Especially since I added about four more blogs to the list tonight. (I actually use a holding area for new blogs until I have a chance to read through them and make sure they aren’t inappropriate before I add them to my main folder.)
GMW: Your pictures threw me at first, but once I realized what they were I had a good time trying to figure out which was which.
I continue to be honored by my blog’s presence in your short list. :)
And I love your long list! I’ve spent the night playing around with a couple WP plugins to simplify my blogroll, but your solution is so elegant…I’m trying desperately not to be jealous. (But at least I’m up to date on the TV shows I watch! Yay for multitasking!)

Yay! I’m still in there!
…I should really play me some WoW and then ramble about it, eh? :)
New stuff to read is always appreciated. *grin*
Hmm… Looks as if the time is right to get back on Someone! :) Maybe try and solo some stuff in the first TBC instance? :)
